While Sam Mercury has only just joined the league he is a long time football veteran. He started playing way back in 2004 where he was one of the most recognizable names in the Madden Sim League which was a startup football league he opted to join. After years of retirement Mercury got the urge to play again but this time he joined the ISFL and not as a quarterback but a linebacker. That is quite the drastic difference in position and completely different skill set and body type needed. He now has about 6 games under his belt since getting claimed by the Portland Pythons and his biggest "welcome to the league" moment was when he went to attempt his first tackle in live game speed. Mercury got absolutely cracked in the chin and was nearly knocked out of the game. After that he quickly realized he needed to make better form tackles and not to go for the big hits that get the crowd going ooo and ahhh. Since then Mercury has adjusted to the position well and the overall speed of the game. He has a few games left to continue getting more work in before he heads off to the ISFL rookie draft for Season 43.
