Tier 1
Task 1 - 660 Words
Norfolk were solid all season long, they started by winning 5 of their first 6 games. They finished the season by winning four straight, on offense they were led by rookie Maximus Boudreaux behind center. All season long he fed the star wide receiver duo of Stetson David and Tyler Hunt. These were the pairs respective stat lines:
Stetson David: 85 Catches, 1,480 Receiving Yards and 16 Receiving Touchdowns
Tyler Hunt: 73 Catches, 1,357 Receiving Yards and 8 Receiving Touchdowns
These two definitely made the rookie quarterback's life a lot easier. Boudreaux would marshall the Seawolves offense to being 2nd in the league in points scored and giving the team the fourth best passing attack. On the ground the team was led by waiver create Oskar Clark. The impressive rookie only played 10 regular season games for the Seawolves, he finished the season with 768 Rushing Yards and added seven rushing touchdowns to that total as well. As good as the Norfolk offense was the defense was just as impressive if not more impressive during the regular season.
Norfolk had the fewest amount of points scored against them, they also led the league in interceptions with a whopping 21 in 14 games. Along with being second in the DSFL for sacks (40) and forced fumbles (18). This shows how a defense that ranked middle of the road for Yards allowed was able to sacrifice the least amount of points in the DSFL this season.
So who were the individual standouts for Norfolk? Well Federico Americano led the DSFL for tackles and 14 tackles for a loss and 8 sacks for good measure. Even though Americano had such a standout season the MVP of the defense was probably Sticky Hands. The cornerback had 6 forced fumbles (2nd most in the league), he then added 6 interceptions to that total which led the league. And who was second in interceptions with 5? Only Hands partner across the way Robert Rossi - with 5 interceptions Rossi showed that QB's couldn't just not throw to Hands side of the field. The impressive CB pairing kept Quartback's on their toes all season long as they turned the secondary into a no fly zone.
So what happens in the playoffs?
Well Norfolk qualify as the top team out of the Southern division which meant they hosted the reigning Ultimini Champions- Tijuana Luchadores during the first week of the playoffs.
Norfolk actually had to battle back from a first half deficit to storm home and take a (in the end) comfortable win over Tijuana by a score of 38-19. I wrote in a media piece before this game that the only way Tijuana could win this game was if they could stop the Norfolk pass rush and turn the ball over no more than once. They did the first step, allowing only one sack but they turned the ball over three times. Including one interception which was returned for a touchdown with only five minutes left in the game. On offense the Seawolves were as good as advertised, Boudreaux threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns with the twin threat of Hunt and David both having a TD and 110 yards receiving. This strong performance was more than enough for Norfolk to move onto the Ultimini.
In the Ultimini they met the Minnesota Grey Ducks, Minnesota had been top of a weak Northern Division all season. Similar to the first round of the playoffs it was a slow start for a Norfolk. They fell behind 17-0 before they could start clicking, once the pieces fell into place there was no stopping them. Three turnovers were cause by the Seawolves who proved too much to handle. With their backs against the wall they went to the air with both Hunt and David have 100+ yards. The winning score was a 48 yard catch and run touchdown from Stetson David with 7 minutes left. From there the defense held strong and Norfolk secured their Ultimini victory.
