8. My experience so far in the league has been pretty fun and eventful. Since being drafted to the Tijuana Luchadores a couple months ago, I have learned a lot about how the league functions and have enjoyed it a lot. I remember joining and having virtually no idea what I was doing, but Tijuana’s experienced guys made it really easy. I also remember screwing up my wiki task multiple times, so going through that process was… something lol. Being in a nice locker room like Tijuana has made this experience much more rewarding as well, as that place is usually pretty active and the team is always kinda dialed in on having a good culture and producing on the field. I also was elected captain somehow by my team about midway throughout the last season, so I’ve had the privilege to help in Tijuana’s war room. I acknowledge that I did pretty much no help with scouting as I was busy with work during that period (as the people who scouted me for this ISFL draft can attest, I was pretty inconsistent with responses). However, getting to see their draft process and help a little with the drafting was a ton of fun. Lastly, I really enjoyed the scouting and drafting process for ISFL. I was drafted way earlier than I thought I would be, as I went from what I imagined as a fringe first rounder to the Berlin Fire Salamanders’ 8th pick and as RB1 on the board. I had a really good conversation with Berlin when I was scouted by them, so seeing them draft me wasn’t too surprising in itself- it was more the timing of it that surprised me. I hope that I can make them proud, and keep progressing as a player within this league.
16. My player’s journey was very much an up and down one, as was the Luchadore year as a whole. We started 6-1, and it really felt like we were on top of the world. My player was in the race for the running crown, and my best performance to date took place in week 3 against the London Royals: 30 rushes for 188 yards and 2 TDs. However, shit hit the fan for the rest of the season, as we ended the season 3-4 and lost our playoff game. It just felt like our defense wasn’t as sturdy as they were for the first half of the year, and our running game was grounded to a halt. While my accolades may have seemed good, I really was slowed down to a crawl towards the end. For example, going into our last game, I had 998 yards. Getting to 1k seemed like a formality, and I had my fingers crossed that I could try for 1,100 yards. However, we got killed 33-7, and as if to mock me, the engine had me finish with 8 rushes for 2 yards. I got to exactly 1000 yards, a milestone that felt like a joke if you think about the manner in which it was obtained. When it comes to what I would’ve done differently, I probably would’ve tried to get my t6 equipment faster. I got it after the last update of the year, which probably hurt our running game. I also would have not missed any tasks, as I missed a couple right when I started (as I didn’t really understand what was happening) and I missed a midseason point task like an idiot. However, it’s been fun, and I expect this year to have ups and downs that culminate in what I hope to be a better outcome.
