I definitely don't think it's ridiculous though i think it's closer than it seems with the FFs there and I appreciate your words on distinction.
It's very interesting to hear the arguments here about skill vs results. With no other stat do people ever think about skills, rather than results. If someone gets a wide open touchdown people don't say oh there is no skill in that, he was just in the right place at the right time. People just say oh he got a touchdown. I think actually having a turnover means more than potentially getting one half the time, even it requires more skill.
