Task 7 - 600+ Words - 10 TPE
Hello again dear reader of the Offseason Point Task! I return with the same basic plan as last time of comparing my player Cross-Eriksen to her predecessors Matt Cross and Wesley Eriksen. Last season we covered how their first four seasons compared and so this time around we are going to cover their fifth to seventh or more seasons if things go according to plan. Before we start though I want to preface that this edition will have some quirkiness due to one of our stars playing out of position. That said the show must go on and so we carry on all the same!
Now fifth seasons being S26 for Cross and Eriksen versus S38 for Cross-Eriksen saw Cross lead the group with 77 tackles, a tied for lead 1 forced fumble, a group leading 5 sacks, a tied for lead 2 interceptions, and a last in show 2 passes defended. Eriksen is the quirk we mentioned before as he played this season at cornerback according to the index explaining him bringing up the rear with 48 tackles, similarly dead last interceptions at 1, and also justifying his country mile lead 27 passes defended on the season. Cross-Eriksen was much more middle of the road in the stats they all had with 51 tackles, although a good 1 tackle for loss leads the trio, 1 forced fumble to tie with Cross, 1 fumble recovery to lead the pack, 3 sacks coming up right in the middle, 2 interceptions to tie Cross, 12 passes defended to be almost perfectly in the middle of the trio, and her 1 defensive touchdown gives her another stat to lead the pack in. In terms of totals Cross takes the lead with 434 tackles, Eriksen holds onto the tackle for loss record with 4, Cross maintains their leading force fumbles with an extra bringing them to 6, Cross-Eriksen's fumble recovery meanwhile brings them to a tie with Cross at 4 each, Cross extends their sack lead as their total reaches 21, Cross just barely hangs onto his interception crown with his 12 just ahead of Cross-Eriksen's 11, Eriksen leapfrogs Cross-Eriksen for the passes defended lead by 1 courtesy of playing out of position, but Cross-Eriksen tolerates the trade-off as she jumped ahead of him to lead the trio with 2 defensive touchdowns.
Now we move into what I consider the best season to compare the trio for reasons that will become apparent as I list their performances. This season career tackle leader Cross brought up the rear with 48 tackles, tied for the lead with 2 forced fumbles, finished second with 3 interceptions, and last with 10 passes defended. Eriksen came second in tackles with 55, last in interceptions with 2, second in passes defended with 11, and second in defensive touchdowns with 1. Cross-Eriksen led in tackles with 73, led in tackles for loss with 1, tied for the lead in forced fumbles with 2, led in fumble recoveries with 1, led in sacks with 3, led in interceptions with 5, led in passes defended with 18 good for the best any of them have had as safeties, and also led in defensive touchdowns with 2 good to tie for the best performance any of them have had. I do believe this was the first of her two first team all pro wins and it was a justified win as can be seen by comparing her to the more reasonable seasons of her predecessors. Despite her dominant performance Cross keeps the lead in tackles with 482, Eriksen keeps the tackles for loss lead with 4, Cross keeps the forced fumble lead with 8, Cross-Eriksen does take the lead in fumbles recovered with 5, even without a sack on the season Cross' 21 still leads the trio, Cross-Eriksen's takeaways give her the lead in interceptions by one with her 16 beating Cross' 15, she also takes back the passes defended lead with 64 to Eriksen's 58, and her double defensive touchdowns put her at 4 to lead the trio there as well.
We are now covering lucky number seven season back in S28 for Cross and Eriksen while this came about in S40 for our dear Cross-Eriksen. Cross dominates the tackle board again with a trio leading 84, ties for the lead in sacks with 4 as well, ties for second in interceptions with 3, ties for second in passes defended with 9, and ties for second in defensive touchdowns with their first. Eriksen brings up the rear in tackles with 59, comes in second with 1 forced fumble, ties the lead for fumble recovers with 1, ties for the lead in sacks with 4, ties for second in interceptions with 3, ties for second in passes defended with 9, and ties for second in defensive touchdowns with 1 to bring their total to three. Interesting to me is sacks, interceptions, passes defended, and touchdowns are tied between the two. Cross-Eriksen meanwhile comes in second in tackles, leads the trio with 4 forced fumbles, ties for the lead with 1 fumble recovery, comes in last with 2 sacks, leads the trio again with 5 interceptions again, her 15 passes defended lead the trio while also being the second best total any of them reached as a safety, and she tied her 2 defensive touchdown performance from last season to lead in that statistic as well. This brings their totals leaders to Cross with 566 tackles over 100 more than Cross-Eriksen, Eriksen with 4 tackles for loss just a lead of 1 over Cross-Eriksen, Cross-Eriksen takes the lead in forced fumbles with 9 to Cross' 8, Cross-Eriksen keeps her lead in fumble recovers with 6 total, Cross extends his sack lead with 25 over 10 more than Cross-Eriksen, Cross-Eriksen extends her interception lead to 21 over Cross' 18, Cross-Eriksen extends her passes defended lead to 79 over Eriksen's 67, and also extends her defensive touchdown lead with 6 beating out Eriksen's 3 and Cross' 1.
Through seven seasons I am comfortable saying all of them fulfilled their roles well, but I am happy to see that Cross-Eriksen is overtaking her namesakes as her career progresses. I doubt she will be able to retire leading the trio in all defensive statistics, however if she does I will absolutely consider a career well spent.
