18. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S45 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? (Written Task)
The S45 DSFL Draft has a lot of really impressive talent in it, and I'm in no way expecting to be a top pick but I do believe that there is a lot that I can bring to the team that drafts me. Firstly, I have a great deal of sim league management experience, having previously been an ISFL GM and a long time SHL GM of almost 20 seasons, and believe I could contribute greatly to a team in terms of strategic decision making and being a sounding board for team decisions in the war room. Besides that, I'm trying to build a really good player, I've already acquired a good amount of TPE for the DSFL and based on the way things have gone so far shouldn't be far off capped by the time the season actually rolls around. I'll end by saying I'm a pretty sociable and chatty guy to have in an LR, and beyond that will be looking to make some nice sigs for future teammates, so if any DSFL GMs are reading this do your boy a solid and pick him up in the draft next week!
23. What are your thoughts on the sim engine? What sort of improvements would you make to the sim engine if given the opportunity? (Written Task)
I think it's fair to say that the sim engine the league uses isn't without its funny little quirks, but on the whole I think it works well for the purposes of the league. Having been active when the sim change took place, it was quite interesting to see the way things changed and how certain positions became completely different, but now that it's settled I think on the whole the move was a no brainer. If I were to come up with something to try and improve the sim, it'd probably be a little more consistency in results and maybe certain positions becoming more relevant. I remember my biggest gripe during one of my previous careers playing Safety was the volatility in the sim outcomes, having several games where your player would contribute absolutely nothing to then playing like Ed Reed for one or two games a season. Having increased consistency in certain positions would be great, but I guess with the nature of the sim we can't pick up on the intricacies that in real life would mark a player out as being great at their position, even if they weren't putting up stats. Just something to think about, but on the whole I am certainly a fan of the sim engine and of the way that the league utilises it.
29. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? Why?
This is an interesting one because I think on the most part, the teams in the league are actually well-branded on the whole. If I had to pick however, the one I really like is the Orange County Otters, and there's a number of reasons behind this decision. Firstly, I think the colour scheme is great, it's vibrant, it's fun and it feels kinda unique in terms of the way its put together. Secondly, I think the logo concept is really cool, being fairly simplistic but actually very effective and looks like it almost could be a professional team. Thirdly, I think that the location and team name itself comes together really nicely and feels quite cohesive, with Orange County being a bit of a unique and fun location to set a team. On the whole, I think it's a really well conceived brand and actually stands out to me as one of the best I've seen in any sim league, so well done to OCO I guess!
32. Your player has decided to start a podcast since it's what all the cool celebrities are doing these days. What would the name of your player's podcast be and what would they talk about/do on the podcast? (Written Task)
I think that if Devin Jones were to start his own podcast, he'd want to get away from the typical footballer podcast and instead focus on a more niche area of interest for his fans. The podcast would be called "Discussing with Devin", and would primarily be based around him holding conversations with various politicians and statesmen in order to gain a deeper understanding of the global geopolitical situation. It would seek to enrich his fans intelligence and provide some knowledge in an area that they may not have come across before. It would inevitably be a massive failure, but it would allow for Devin to show just how much he thinks outside the box, leading to some more kooky and wacky opportunities off the field in the future. If he needed to keep the podcast going for whatever reason and the rating numbers were really that bad, he could simply pivot to sharing locker room stories with other football players and would undoubtedly make a great deal of money doing so.
