[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Bavitz and Boss Get Into Spat at Practice
Bavitz Mad There's No Extension?
Pistol News Network (PNN) With the Hot Scoop[/div]
More news out of Orange County this morning. During the Otters practice session open to the media, a broken play ended with OC Otters linebacker Ian Bavitz slamming QB Mike Boss to the ground, despite the red no-contact jersey.
Tempers flared quickly as the offensive line got up to defend their quarterback and pushing and shoving ensued. Over the ruckus some microphones picked up the following: "You son of a _____, sign the ______ contract already so we can focus on the season! Your petty money-grubbing is a distraction, is that why you were ____ against the Outlaws? Couldn't even complete 50% of your passes! ______ Berc is better than that. You want all this ____ money and it's just further hurting our chances of building a competitive team. Get your head out of your ___ and let's get to work. That taste of grass in your mouth won't be going away _____."
We obviously censored the expletive-filled rant from Bavitz, the FCC would have our heads if we printed everything the potty-mouthed Bavitz had to say.
Miraculously, Boss kept his cool and didn't lose his temper despite the heart-breaking loss at the hands of the rival Arizona Outlaws the night before. Boss put up numbers far below what we'd been coming to expect from him, but he's not solely to blame for the lop-sided loss. Despite Bavitz' accusation of a less-than 50% completion rate, Boss actually managed exactly 50%, going 27 for 54 for 218 yards. Unfortunately one of those was an interception that stalled what had been a promising drive and one of the Otters last chances at starting the comeback. Fourteen passes were dropped by the Otters, including a couple each by league-leading receivers Bradley Westfield and Robert Phelps. To make matters worse for Orange County, the defense struggled mightily to stop the run, which lead to so big plays off of the play-action.
The Otters are looking to recover from their loss, and next up they have a winnable tilt against the down-trodden Colorado Yeti in Colorado. Orange County is sitting just 1.5 games ahead of the San Jose Sabercats for the second and final seed in the ASFC playoffs. The Las Vegas Legion helped the Otters out mightily by winning their first victory of the season against the Sabercats, helping keep them at bay.
The Otters remaining schedule consists of the Philadelphia Liberty, in Philly. The previous game between them was a convincing victory for the Otters at home, hopefully they can keep that rolling. Next, the Otters face the Baltimore Hawks at home, another rematch of a lop-sided Otters victory. The Otters finish the season hosting the Yellowknife Wraiths, and they hope to make up for their shortcomings in their previous tilt, in which the Wraiths won handily.
San Jose's remainimg schedule looks tougher, with their only remaining home game in week 13 against the Arizona Outlaws. Their other three contests bring them to Baltimore, Yellowknife amd Colorado. With that schedule and being 1.5 games behind already, San Jose better pray for a miracle to make the playoffs. The Otters could lose out and the Cats would have to find victory against the beatable Yeti in Colorado, as well as find a way to overcome the Hawks or Wraiths away from the comfort of San Jose. That, or they could beat the Outlaws, a feat no team has done this season. At least it's a home game for them, but it doesn't look good.
The Orange County Otters will look towards securing the playoff spot, with another shot at taking the two-time defending Ultimus champion Outlaws down. Will Boss' impending free agency continue the distractions and keep the heat on the pot that already boiled over a little bit in practice?
For the sake of Orange County, let's hope they figure it out soon.
