Standings are as of the conclusion of week 10 games, however the index was not updated yet. Did my best to do tiebreakers, including manually calculating the updated point differentials! However there are so many ties that will be broken based on head to head by the end of the season that there will be plenty of jostling of draft order in the remaining 6 weeks. So no one is allowed to “well actually” me in the comments.
I'm making no attempt to predict position swaps of either current ISFL players or the prospects. I did a brief attempt to try to find which teams re-creates have a history with, but I'm not sure which of those connections are unbreakable and which are casual.
Round 1 Pick 1 Colorado Yeti
D’Squarius Green Jr TE
I know what you’re thinking. A TE at first overall? Delusional. Pathetic. A call for help. But let me ask you this, “Where are the top TE’s in the ISFL playing right now?” Through the most recent fantasy scoring changes, you’ve no doubt become more familiar with Mister Hogmally and La’Fluke Paris-Johnson. Hogmally is playing their final season in S48, and LFPJ is a S43 player still not in regression but pretty far off pace from the rest of their peers in TPE. If COL wants to continue their TE dominance, Green Jr is a perfect fit for the Yeti.
Round 1 Pick 2 Honolulu Hahalua
Alexander Rockstone CB
This feels like a good spot for Rockstone, but man is it kind of tough to say what HON will do here. Taking your 3rd CB with the 2nd overall pick doesn’t seem like a surefire move. However HON has shown that they value locker room fit, and Austin is a very active new user. HON’s whole roster just needs to keep earning and they will be setup nicely. They also need more help on the defensive side of the ball than offensive side. Another move I could see is going OL, like Devin Mace for example. However with Baymax a guaranteed HON pick in Rd2, I don’t know how I’d feel about double OL picks.
Round 1 Pick 3 Austin Copperheads
Billdozer Dauterive LB
“For whatever reason, Ray, call it fate, call it luck, call it Karma, Billdozer is ending up on the team with Bill Dozier. And they are BOTH lining up at LB.”
-Dr. Peter Venkman
Assuming there are no sneaky position swaps, AUS needs some youth in the pipeline for the LB position. While not necessarily at the top of the TPE leaderboards for the LB position for the S49 class, the connection for AUS is undeniable. The AUS rebuild will not suffer from Dauterive playing another season down to amass more TPE for their ISFL debut.
Round 1 Pick 4 New York Silverbacks
Sweet Sweet Ganjasmoke RB
Very tough pick as I see needs for the Silverbacks at RB and CB alike. Both positions have great options here at this pick as well, however I went with RB as I think the clock is ticking faster there. Ganjasmoke becomes the backfield successor to Dux and pairs with Reynolds. I think there are some excellent options here at CB too that I would still call a great pick. But the regression timeline is a little further out for their CB players, not to mention you could play a Safety out of position if needed. They take the RB and lock up the depth chart. They could still go CB here and end up with a clutch player, but the uncertainty at RB would push me to take one here.
Round 1 Pick 5 Berlin Fire Salamanders
Marshall von Hildebrand KP
I will attempt to justify this round 1 kicker pick just like I did the 1 overall TE pick. First, it’s a position BER can improve on as they are running an IA kicker under 300 TPE. Normally not a round 1 pick based on that alone, but keep reading. BER has a GM pick at OL in round 2, and no 3rd round pick. So after this pick, they wont be able to fill ANY needs until the 4th round. They can probably make that work with the K position, but I think this pick just makes a ton of sense for them considering the connections. This may actually be a good pick for BER to trade down from, considering I have them taking a kicker. Their roster just needs to earn and they'll be fine, so moving back could be a great move. Especially the way the landscape of the 2nd round looks with so many GM picks, teams that don't have flexibility could be willing to pay a premium to move up.
Round 1 Pick 6 Chicago Butchers(from OCO)
Tua Domine LB
I wouldn’t say that LB is the biggest need for CHI in the short term, that’s probably KP. But if you go 1-2 more seasons out, CHI is going to need lots of bodies to replace those that are aging out due to regression. They do have Jack Destroyer ready to take a spot, but the Butchers are going to be looking to fill up to 3 spots on the depth chart in a couple years. Insert joke about more bodies for the meatgrinder.
Round 1 Pick 7 Sarasota Sailfish
Harvin Marrison WR
A weird thing I noticed preparing for this draft is how thin this class is at WR. Only one prospect in the top 28 by TPE is a WR. Sarasota needs to grabs some receivers pretty badly, so they take the obvious TPE leader here. Had the fish going D-line in my first run through of the draft, which is another big position need.
Round 1 Pick 8 Yellowknife Wraiths
WW Jatt DT
Seems like Sarasota and Yellowknife have similar needs. Whichever of these teams ends up higher in the draft order is gonna be stealing exactly who the other team wants. Yellowknife plugs in a new defensive tackle to replace an aging IA vet. Also would be looking for receivers here.
Round 1 Pick 9 Arizona Outlaws
Benny The Jet WR
Arizona goes big brain and takes an active new create WR in a class where there just aren’t that many available. Position swaps could blow a lot of this out of the water, but with another 1st round pick coming up I think this is the smart move. Denying other teams a good prospect and filling a need of your own. I don't think WR is the top priority for this team, so depending how the picks before this one fall this could change.
Round 1 Pick 10 Colorado Yeti (from CTC)
Devin Mace OL
Mace would be an instant starter for COL, but also joins another active new create from COL's first overall selection. COL has many roster needs, such as QB. But Mace still being available here is a good pickup for the Yeti.
Round 1 Pick 11 Chicago Butchers
FTBLLCMR4D RUS-KCKR-001 KP
I know a second kicker in the first is wild, but I don’t think there will be anymore kickers in this mock draft. RUS-KCKR-001 can practically start right now for CHI, so this is an instant upgrade at KP. Plus, they are a very active new user that can help keep the LR engaging. I think that’s a good argument to see 2 kickers in round 1.
Round 1 Pick 12 San Jose Sabercats
Julian McMorris II RB
RB is not an urgent need for the cats, however McMorris could do a few seasons down in the DSFL growing. Once they are called up, they can be the 3rd back to Fisto and Dogwood. Or just take a WR slot on the depth chart as a RB (this is not a tamper).
Round 1 Pick 13 Arizona Outlaws (from BAL)
Kim Yeon-Seok CB
This is the player AZ really considered taking up at 9th but went with a new create WR instead. They are happy to get both players instead of just one by their strategic move.
Round 1 Pick 14 New Orleans Second Line
Kevin Finnerty TE
NOLA’s biggest need is probably WR, however maybe they can get away with something here. Bread Bowl is fulfilling the TE role now, but this could be a pick where NOLA helps their passing game while looking at fewer WR prospects this draft.
Round 2 Pick 15 Colorado Yeti
Secret Squirrel WR
REACCCCH
Round 2 Pick 16 Honolulu Hahalua
Baymax OL
REACCCH
Round 2 Pick 17 Austin Copperheads
Liggy Jiggy CB
There was a tempting S prospect here for AUS, but its just not really a position they have any need in. CB is higher on their list and Jiggy is a nice get here. Still wouldn’t be surprised to see AUS take the top S prospect though.
Round 2 Pick 18 New York Silverbacks
Duke Silverback RB
REACCCH
Round 2 Pick 19 Berlin Fire Salamanders
Connor Craig Jr JR OL
REACCCH
Round 2 Pick 20 Cape Town Crash (from OCO)
William Eaton S
The Crash’s first pick is in a big area of need on the depth chart.
Round 2 Pick 21 Sarasota Sailfish
Tony Chazz DT
Sarasota gets their DL player in a new create. There are surprisingly some strong prospects left here for teams looking to bolster the DL.
Round 2 Pick 22 Yellowknife Wraiths
Joe Lyles LB
Wraiths are happy to still be needing a LB in the middle of the second round and take the new create. Good matchup of value and draft position.
Round 2 Pick 23 Arizona
Cedric Theriault RB
Already having addressed some big areas of need earlier this draft, AZ is able to take a quality prospect for a spot that’s only a medium need for them. Very efficient pick here. This will help down the road but wont move the needle much in S49.
Round 2 Pick 24 Cape Town Crash
Lucas Graves CB
Crash’s CB group is aging and has some retiring players taking spots on the depth chart this season. Good time to reload.
Round 2 Pick 25 Chicago Butchers
Hot Dam DT
REACCCH
Round 2 Pick 26 San Jose Sabercats
Ajax Sakarias WR
If this pick works out for SJS then this is a huge get at this point in the draft.
Round 2 Pick 27 Colorado Yeti
Katya Zamolodchikova QB
The time to take QBs may actually be later in the draft but when you need it as badly as COL does then this spot makes sense.
Round 2 Pick 28 Orange County Otters
Deacon Blues TE
