What if, in addition to just having one OL position open for each team, the GMs just got to choose their other 4-5 OL from templates? Maybe they'd all be 100-150 TPE versions of the run blocker, pass blocker, etc. Each GM can choose how many of each they'd like, and they can move them all around at their leisure.
You human player is pretty much always going to be stronger than your bots, so it would keep the focus where it should be. And GMs can move their single player around to counter strategies from opponents (e.g. Where do I think Tuck is going? If they keep him on the left, I need my PC OL there. If I think they're going to put him on the right, I should counter him there. Maybe put your OL at G or C to counter someone like Dan Miller.) I think it adds an interesting element of strategy.
Yes, but you would need them significantly stronger than 100-150 TPE. Our C Madlad is in that range of TPE and had 28 pancakes and 13 sacks allowed. They would still be a liability when facing 400+ TPE Dlinemen.
And Tuck can just as easily play in 3 or more spots during the game, with no way to matchup against him. They can set him to go against the RT in 4-3, against the RG in Nickel, against the LT in dime. And the offensive DCs don't allow you to counter that.
You're definitely hitting on a good idea with template bots at a set TPE with room for a player if someone likes the position. But there would need to be some sort of scaling involved. You can't have weak bots, that doesn't change every team's current situation. But you also can't have super powerful bots because then no 100 TPE new player would get a chance to start over a bot. Something like each bot gets 300 TPE + 30% of the player's TPE.
