1. The Season 48 Ultimus and Ultimini have officially come to an end. Congratulations to the the Tijuana Luchadores and New Orleans Second Line for each winning their respective championships. How did each of the finalists in either the Ultimus or Ultimini arrive at the playoffs? Were there any teams that surprised or disappointed during the playoffs? Did the outcome of either championship game surprise you at all?
Congratulations to both the Tijuana Luchadores and New Orleans Second Line for winning their respective trophies, a true fever dream come true for Tom Hanks! It is sad to have to write one of these when the great Arizona Outlaws are not winning, but it is what I must do. As said in each previous off season task that I have done, I congratulate the Tijuana Luchadores on their great success, but as I have more knowledge on the International Simulation Football League, I will thus concentrate on how the New Orleans Second Line ended up winning the Ultimus.
A once storied franchise that had unfortunately fallen on hard times recently, the New Orleans Second Line started out the season as one of the favorites to make it out of the American Simulation Football Conference. The Second Line started out their season on a strong note, winning their first four games that included impressive road wins against their toughest competition in the American Simulation Football Conference in the Arizona Outlaws and San Jose Sabercats, with defense winning out in San Jose in a 19 to 13 victory while offense was king in Arizona in a 37 to 34 victory. After an unfortunate setback on the road against the Cape Town Crash they were able to pile on another 4 victories, most coming at home to improve to 8-1 after 9 weeks. The latter half of the season was a bt more topsy turvy and included two losses on the road to the Austin Copperheads and Yellowknife Wraiths in a row, followed by a four game winning streak and capping off the season with a home loss to the Arizona Outlaws. This still gave them a 12-4 record and first place in the American Simulation Football Conference.
With the best record in the American Simulation Football Conference, it gave the New Orleans Second Line a chance for a breather as a team and also an opportunity to scout their next opponent. They looked on as the Arizona Outlaws dumsptered on the San Jose Sabercats in the wild card round and got ready to welcome these Outlaws to New Orleans. The game started off well for the Arizona Outlaws with a field goal by Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison being the only scoring in the first quarter. The rest of the game then was mostly a New Orleans Second Line show. A Jack Sloth field goal and a Kyle Crane touchdown run in the second quarter made it 10-3 at the half. Two touchdowns and a field goal later it was 27-3 to New Orleans entering the fourth quarter. Arizona could only muster a field goal in the final quarter to make the final score 27-6 and have New Orleans making it to the Ultimus
On the other side of the bracker so to say there were some upsets when first the Baltimore Hawks knocked off the Chicago Butchers in the wild card round on the road! If that was not enough, in the National Simulation Football Conference championship game they went into Cape Town to face the number one seeded Cape Town Crash and knocked them off in a close fought 20-13 victory. This all meant that the Ultimus would be hosted in New Orleans. The first three quarter were definitely not something that the Second Line fans would have wanted to see with the Baltimore Hawks piling on the points and the score being 27-10 at the end of the third quarter. That is then when the magic started happening with Octavion Speedings throwing for two touchdowns in the first 10 minutes of the quarter to bring the score to 27-24. This is how the score stayed until there was just three minutes to go in the game. In the last 2 minutes and 40 seconds, the Second Line were able to pile up two field goals and one touchdown which made the final score 37-27 and gave the Second Line a chance to celebrate their Ultimus triumph!
