10. If I am elected to be league commissioner for a day, the one thing I would do is add additional stats for kickers to place TPE into. I fully believe that this position is the most neglected position in the league and therefore needs some love in the form of rule changes. Right now kickers only have the option to add their points in to kick power, kick accuracy, and intelligence. While these all clearly play an important role in the kicking and punting duties of these players, I am certain other stats could help these players overall. Right now the main complaint (besides the fact the position can be boring) surrounding players selecting Kicker is that the position does not seem to reward users that are earning near the maximum TPEE throughout their careers.
I think the main attribute I would add is competitiveness. I believe this trait could help with the clutch factor of kickers and if they are able to make a kick in a big moment at the end of a game or half. Right now it seems like it is complete luck whether or not these players will hit the kicks so maybe the additional stat can help those max earners differentiate themselves from more casual users.
Another potential option that can be used to buff kickers would be speed. While this may seem like a joke, these players do need to be on the field for kickoffs and punts. Adding speed to the player would allow them to pursue returners and potentially add some other counting stats for k/p users. To help supplement these stats strength and tackling could also be introduced to the list of improvements for the kicker position. While these might not be the most glamorous stats for the position, it does help build out additional TPE requirements that might entice max users.
11. Now that Booter McGavin has been in the ISFL for 11 full seasons, I want to take this time to reflect on his journey through the league. While Booter plays two positions (both kicker and punter) only one is a story worth telling. The truth is Booter's punting game has been consistently great throughout his time in the ISFL. He is nearly always the league leader in punting average (in fact he is the all-time leader in this stat) and his inside the 20 rate is about league average. No the real story is Booter McGavin's Field Goal percentages.
In the beginning of his career Booter was simply an atrocious kicker when it came to accuracy. He was near the bottom of the league throught most of the seasons including one season at only 71 percent. Famously Booter blamed his quarterback and holder Owen Farrell for the problems he had making field goals. While this seems ridiculous on the surface, perhaps there is some truth to Booter's blame game. Since Farrell has retired and Patterson has taken over, Booter has seen a significant rise is his field goal percentage. This has even held as he ages and his kick accuracy attribute has steadliy declined. In this past season Booter has finally won his first kicker and punter of the year, which was largely due to his extremely high field goal percentage. It was an important milestone that shows he is still aging like a fine wine in the twilight of his career.
When Booter entered the league I set the goal of him making the hall of fame and earning the gold jacket his grandfather never could in Happy Gilmore. Now at the end of the road I think it is safe to say the gold jacket will also elude Booter. But I have had an amazing career and am happy to see how the seasons have played out. I am very hopeful Booter will have the all time punt yard record and perhaps one more all pro.
