7. Write 600 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 600 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.
I have really loved that the WFC has come back in full force this off-season. When the announcement that we were planning on doing an offseason tournament first dropped way back in S29, I was buzzing. If I remember correctly, it was my current Ultimus winning teammate Bayley who was the first ever WFC head. I was so stoked about the concept of the WFC that I was one of the people who applied for the initial WFC heads, which I did not get.
My player at the time, Drip Dad, was not initially picked for the first Western US roster either. Which is completely fair given the talent in the league at the time, especially at running back. A few of these players may be lost in the annals of the index, but Dad wasn't anywhere close to the level of Cobra Kai, Zoe Watts, and Deadly Memes in Season 30. Zoe Watts in particular brings back some core sim league memories. I watched every game of that WFC season for the West, including the loss in the playoffs to the maiden victors, Team Southeast led by Sam Howitzer. It was a fun break from what the ISFL had become for me, and as an idea it absolutely fucks. You get people involved in the league in so many different ways. You create separate rooting interest within the current player base, and utilize the systems we have in place so that it's not too different from what brought people in. You create vested interest in the people who are working for the team, letting people use the system, lead a team, but not have the same commitment level as what it takes to GM an ISFL or DSFL team. Which for me, was perfect. I wanted that chance, and in saying that I am not coming from a place of bitterness. It was a part of the league that really made me excited, and I knew that the people running it had a great plan that I didn't fit into. I applied and was rejected again, and my last hope was Drip Dad making it in S35, which didn't happen. At this point, life got to be a big thing, so I needed to take some time and be with it, which led me to step away. But looking through the Yeti crimson colored glasses that comes with my previous time in the league, the WFC really did it for me.
Now, that chance that has presented itself again, as the WFC is back! And while I am a quiet fan, I am still a fan, and this season of the WFC has made me really excited to watch the league again in a whole different way. I have had a very good experience with my current player. And, I was selected to be the man in the middle of Team EuroCan's offensive line. When I found that out, I felt like it was all just right. I have had an incredible start to my career, a pro bowl and my first Ultimus in the same year. What has made me like the WFC more this time around is actually how badly I am getting cooked by defensive lineman. 63 pancakes, 7 sacks allowed. I am a big fan of the index, and it causes me to look deeper into the teams that I am on. This WFC championship season for team EuroCan was the icing on the cake for team success that I have experienced, and this team would not have been close to a championship had it not been for the leg of Bob Kickerson. This absolute legend did not miss a single extra point attempt all season. This season for him was more about setting all-time team EuroCan records. This season, he was put on the record books a whopping 9 times, 4 career records and 5 playoff records. Including, but not limited to career longest punt at 68 yards, playoff longest punt at 67 yards, as well as the previously mentioned 100% XP percentage.
I am glad the WFC has came back, it gives me a chance to have a new favorite player on a new favorite team. A completely familiar unfamiliar experience.
