JDC’s Week 6 Power Rankings
Welcome to the Season 50, Week 6 Power Rankings! These rankings are mine and mine alone which are based on statistics, analytics, and vibes. Take these power rankings seriously, at your own peril.
14. Orange County Otters (0-6)
Change from last week: Down 2
Week 6 result: Loss to Arizona Outlaws, 28-69
In my opinion, these bottom three teams can all make a case for being in the fourteenth power rankings position. I’ve heard the arguments and analyzed the results. Especially after Orange County fell to the Arizona Outlaws 28-69, this was not a nice outcome for them. This marks the third 40+ point defeat for Orange County and we are not even at the halfway point of the season. The Otters are seemingly the bottom tier team of the ISFL currently and have much soul searching to do moving forward in this season, and beyond.
Next opponent: vs. New Orleans Secondline (1-5)
13. Colorado Yeti (1-5)
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 6 result: Loss to Berlin Fire Salamanders, 17-20
There have been a plethora of Colorado and power rankings fans who came chirping about last week’s hot take of placing Colorado in the last rank position. While there may be one team worse than the Yeti, after week 6 it seems to be definitive that Colorado deserves the thirteenth spot. With three turnovers in week 6, the Colorado Yeti could not take down fellow lower tier team, the Berlin Fire Salamanders. You can only hang on to the week 1 victory against Orange County for so long before looking in the mirror and facing the current issues at hand.
Next opponent: @ Sarasota Sailfish (4-2)
12. Berlin Fire Salamanders (1-5)
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 6 result: Win against Colorado Yeti, 20-17
This was a game for sim football sickos. A battle between two bottom tier teams and one had to come out as a winner. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on perspective, the Berlin Fire Salamanders squeezed out a victory against the Colorado Yeti 20-17. Tuna did not turn the ball over which may have been the deciding factor as the Fire Salamander defense forced three turnovers of their own. Berlin has a winnable game in week 7 against the Osaka Kaiju so we will see how they strategize against another team with a losing record.
Next opponent: vs. Osaka Kaiju (2-4)
11. New Orleans Secondline (1-5)
No change from prior rankings
Week 6 result: Loss to New York Silverbacks, 23-24
What season is it? The New Orleans Secondline are on a four game slide having just narrowly lost to the New York Silverbacks, 23-24. Regression has come for Kyle Crane very abruptly as he hasn’t been able to muster up a great performance this season. This game ended with a humongous pick six by the New York Silverbacks to give them the lead in the fourth quarter. New Orleans was unable to make a comeback winning drive, which seems to be the case so far this season.
Next opponent: @ Orange County Otters (0-6)
10. San Jose Sabercats (3-3)
No change from prior rankings
Week 6 result: Loss to Honolulu Hahalua, 24-31
Positives: Kit Fisto
Negatives: Defense allowing four offensive touchdowns to the Honolulu Hahalua
There is definitely no reason to count the Sabercats out by any means but in their losses, it seems they don’t have as much energy or will to win the game as the other teams. Their mid to late season schedule is tougher than average so the Sabercats will have to pull all the pieces together to find more wins.
Next opponent: @ Austin Copperheads (4-2)
9. Osaka Kaiju (2-4)
Change from last week: Down 3
Week 6 result: Loss to Yellowknife Wraiths, 10-17
The Osaka Kaiju just has a lackluster offense so far this season. The only time they scored over 21 points was against the Colorado Yeti in Week 3. Last year’s ROTY candidate, Russell Jimmies, has yet to play to his full potential in Season 50. In this game, he threw for 161 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. The touchdown did come from a goal line pass from Jimmies to Nah’Sim. The defense seems to hold pretty well as they limited Yellowknife to only 17 points which is impressive in its own right. This offense will need to start clicking soon, however.
Next opponent: @ Berlin Fire Salamanders (1-5)
8. Cape Town Crash (4-2)
Change from last week: Down 7
Week 6 result: Loss to Sarasota Sailfish, 10-48
Ok, I’ll be the first to admit when I’m wrong. It does appear that the Cape Town Crash can be stopped. The Sarasota Sailfish just showed the winning playbook to the rest of the league on how you can limit Thor and the Cape Town Crash. Sarasota intercepted the God of Thunder three times in this game. The Crash have a tough battle in the next two weeks as they face two 4 win teams.
Next opponent: @ Baltimore Hawks (4-2)
7. Arizona Outlaws (3-2-1)
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 6 result: Win against Orange County Otters, 69-21
Offensive performance of the week material? Puddles O’Duck had an incredible game against the Orange County Otters where the Outlaws had a nice win 69-21. O’Duck threw for 320 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. This was a masterclass by Arizona as they also had four rushing touchdowns: three from Mediocre, and two from Mannering-Phipps. But as we have seen with other teams, just because you blow out the Orange County Otters, it doesn’t make you a strong team. The Outlaws had an extremely tough schedule to follow as they face two 5 win teams and two 4 win teams in their immediate future.
Next opponent: Honolulu Hahalua (5-1)
6. Austin Copperheads (4-2)
Change from last week: Down 4
Week 6 result: Loss against Baltimore Hawks, 17-27
This was a tough loss for the Copperheads as they fell to Baltimore in week 6. The Copperheads just could not protect the quarterback as they allowed Jay Cue III to be sacked a total of seven times in this game. Cue III is one of the top quarterbacks in the league and needs time to cook in the pocket to give his team a chance. Austin has shown they can defeat teams like Arizona and Honolulu so we will see how they progress throughout the season.
Next opponent: vs. San Jose Sabercats (3-3)
5. Baltimore Hawks (4-2)
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 6 result: Win against Austin Copperheads, 27-17
A very nice win for the Baltimore Hawks, taking out Austin 27-17. Shrubbery and Skywalker both found the end zone on the ground and helped lead their team to victory. The biggest factor was the defense getting to the opposing quarterback seven times as they put a lot of pressure on the Copperheads passing game. The Hawks have another tough test next week as they take on Cape Town at home.
Next opponent: vs. Cape Town Crash (4-2)
4. New York Silverbacks (4-1-1)
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 6 result: Win against New Orleans Secondline, 24-23
What a nailbiter! The Silverbacks just hold off the New Orleans Secondline as they get their fourth win of the season. Quarterback Elijah Dyson found Season 41 legend, Sean Robinson, in the end zone for a huge touchdown. But what sealed it was a great pick six from Captain Lyle Taylor with eight minutes left in the game to put the Silverbacks in the lead for the first time all game. The defense held off NOLA and secured the New York victory. The Silverbacks have not lost a game since week 1 and quickly are shooting up the power rankings and the league standings. Yellowknife will be a true test in week 6.
Next opponent: @ Yellowknife Wraiths (5-1)
3. Sarasota Sailfish (4-2)
Change from last week: Up 5
Week 6 result: Win against Cape Town Crash, 48-10
It was a great team performance for the Sailfish as they made a statement in their 48-10 victory over the Crash. Quarterback Bugs threw for 310 yards and 3 touchdowns. Zipstep and Anderson both found the end zone. And the Sarasota defense picked the Mighty Thor off three times. All of these things combined are a perfect recipe for a dominant win and momentum heading into week 6. The Sailfish have a light schedule on paper as they play the Yeti, Otters, and Kaiju in the coming weeks.
Next opponent: vs. Colorado Yeti (1-5)
2. Honolulu Hahalua (5-1)
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 6 result: Win against San Jose Sabercats, 31-24
On a three game winning streak, Honolulu has to thank their strong running back duo for their success so far. In the win against San Jose, Fig Newton and Stetson David both had a rushing and receiving touchdown. The defense did just enough to hold off Kit Fisto and the rest of the San Jose offensive attack. Honolulu have been a great scoring team, having put up over 30 points in all 5 of their season wins.
Next opponent: @ Arizona Outlaws (3-2-1)
1. Yellowknife Wraiths (5-1)
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 6 result: Win against Osaka Kaiju, 17-10
Another team on a three game winning streak is the Yellowknife Wraiths. Their week 6 win over the Osaka Kaiju was not the prettiest win but they got the job done. They only scored one touchdown in this game which came from a goal line pass by Boudreaux to Kronkowski in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. They have already beaten the likes of Baltimore and Cape Town and look to carry this momentum in their next huge game against the New York Silverbacks. This team has proven time and time again, they can get it done from both sides of the ball.
Next opponent: vs. New York Silverbacks (4-1-1)
