After taking some time to think things over, I have finally decided to Retire Damian Blackfyre. I had a pretty solid early career I think. There was a time I believe I was one of the better playmaking safeties, maybe for a season or two, however real life obligations and responsibilities began hindering my earning, which slowed my progress on the field. After almost a full inactive season, I just couldn’t get back into the swing of things in the league for any significant time, although I had so much money saved up I could coast a bit on equipment but after another semi IA season, I knew my time had come.
It’s been a hard decision, since this is literally the first sim player I have ever made period, not just for the ISFL. So this is a bit emotional, however I enjoy the league a lot and want to get back into full activity again. The best way for me to do that is to start fresh. Damian Blackfyre holds a special place in my heart as my first ISFL player and my first sim player ever. He kickstarted a deep dive into sim leagues that I have thoroughly enjoyed and it pains me greatly to retire.
With the sad stuff out of the way I’d like to get to some happier things and remember what a great player Blackfyre was in the short time he was in the league.
Coming into the league as a late create I was pretty much overlooked by every single DSFL team since I created like 4 days before the draft or something around there. I got a message from Sermo who briefly scouted me. I was extremely confused and excited about the whole thing but overwhelmed at first. I thought man I’m not gonna get drafted anywhere because I didn’t get an invite to the locker room of the only team who scouted me! Turns out I couldn’t be drafted anyways because I was created so late so I was signed on waivers and added to the end of the draft stream. I’d like to shout out
@BenDover took a shot on this fresh faced rookie even when @TheCC told him not too. I didn’t know how great things would be.
My first season was…..awful. I had like 40 tackles and that’s it. I think I got maybe a sack as well but it was disgusting and I was ready to start all over but the guys on the Ducks were so great I didn’t want to risk going anywhere else. I stuck it out and the following season won Safety of the year in the DSFL and was the lesser half of the “Gruesome Twosome” with
@Crodyman who became one of my closest sim league pals in that time.
I was called up to Chicago after this season by @Bayley and @Muford who are both stinky but I love them. My time in Chicago was full of highs and lows, great seasons and awful seasons. I had my fair share of fantastic seasons and some not so fantastic seasons. My rookie year I was on too many ballots to count and lost em all, big sad, and that was a trend for my whole career. Always Good, never quite Good enough. I enjoyed it though, I wanted to see how many ballots I could get on and lose. I’d rather not talk about how many there were lmfao. Anyways huge shout out to the homies in Chicago, I’m always going to appreciate and relish the memories I made with the meatgrinders. Even though we never went the distance I had a helluva time in the process. And I’ll always have a place in my sim heart for Chicago and a place in my real heart for the friends I made along the way.
Despite my shortcomings in earning at the end of my career I am happy with how things turned out. I made so many friends, I don’t want to ping everyone and miss somebody or leave anyone out that deserves a spot but you all know who you are so no pings necessary. In the end, real life was more important, i welcomed my son into the world and took a season off to enjoy time with him. I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world. That said the ISFL is the first sim league I was ever in and I couldn’t bear to leave so I will be recreating for the upcoming season. This is the best way for me to get back into the league with a fresh start so I can enjoy it fully again. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way I appreciate you more than could be said with words. Here’s to the future and whatever my next player may bring!
