At the beginning of the season, the SaberCats pulled off a big trade involving quarterbacks. They traded Brad Pennington to the Wraiths for Mat Akselsen. It was a surprising trade because Akselsen was a staple behind centre for the Wraiths and Pennington was supposed to be the future for San Jose. Circumstances changed and we had a shake up.
With some history in Yellowknife, it was very different for Akselen to play against them. He told us as much in the locker room before the first meeting in week 4. It was his return to Yellowknife and while we put up a fight, we couldn't get him the win. After that game, everyone in the locker room circled the week 11 match up at home against the Wraiths. We promised each other that we'd get that win for Mat. Week 11 arrived and pre-game, we were hyped. We rallied around him and told him we're getting this W. The game started and we were fired up. It seemed like everyone was having the game of their lives. Our defense had arguably their best game of the season, limiting Yellowknife to 20 points. On offense, Akselen crushed it. He threw for 288 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading us to the huge 42-20 victory. When the final whistle sounded, we saw the look on his face. He wanted that win and everyone in the locker room were so happy to get it for him. (242 words)

Week seven of this season saw the Baltimore Hawks travel to New Orleans to take on the Second Line in the first clash between the two favourites to lift the Ultimus this year. The journey was somewhat bittersweet for Antoine Delacour in particular, who was returning to a city he lived in for some years, and the state of his birth. In addition, he would be lining up against an old friend and teammate, Alexandre LeClair -- "the second most popular francophone in Baltimore", Delacour jokes.
"The manner in which Alex left Baltimore wasn't ideal, I don't think," Delacour revealed. "But I don't think he holds it against us. We caught up after the game, was good to see him." Despite things being pleasant between the two, there was no love lost on the field. As a cornerback, Delacour would be directly in opposition to LeClair on some plays, and ultimately, the latter came away with an impressive stat line -- over one hundred yards and a touchdown. The Second Line ultimately secured the win, too. The next meeting between the two will be in Baltimore in the final week of the regular season, where Delacour will certainly be hoping to get the better of his old friend this time, as a win for the Hawks would give them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs -- a luxury the team has never enjoyed before. Trey Willie has played in 3 reunion games so far this season. The first was back in week 4 when the Orange County Otters traveled to Baltimore. Although the landscape of the league has changed, as well as much of the rosters, there were still some familiar faces on the opposing sidelines. Willie had a small but impactful role this game. He only caught 5 passes for 43 yards but 2 of those catches were in the end zone. He also had 1 sack on the Otters new quarterback, Gus Showbiz.
Next, in week 7 Baltimore traveled down to the bayou to face former Baltimore wide receiver Alexandre LeClair. Willie and LeClair were competitive throughout the game and although they don’t face-off with each other directly, they were both still competing against each other. LeClair had a great game where he accumulated 105 yards and a TD while Willie had 87 yards and a TD himself. New Orleans took home the victory which made this reunion feel even worse. Finally, Baltimore traveled to Orange county where Willie first got his start in the NSFL. Willie had just 63 yards but once again 2 TDs and another sack on Showbiz. I guess we can determine that Trey Willie seems to underperform when facing former teammates as each of these 3 games left him with below average receptions and yards.

Tegan Atwell has gone for the money. Leaving a championship team that needed help and looked to her own future in Yellowknife. The Orange County Otters drafted her in their peak run and gave her two championship trophies. Once she saw the green in Yellowknife is was off to the races. Now they will face each other again and the organization that gave her a job in the beginning and helped train her from cornerback to wide receiver will see if she can hold her own against a strong secondary. It will be an exciting matchup and it will be good to see Tegan against her old team, will she thrive or will she simply fade into the snow. Now I too like money and am not saying what she did was wrong, I am simply pointing out the gangster attitude. Props. When I am finally in the league I too will likely be looking for a big pay day. Will I get one? Only if I deserve it. But I will make sure that I prove to all the GM’s that I am the man and I have a plan. Someday I hope to play with Tegan so I hope she does well enough to stay in the league that long. There’s lots of turnover, but you never know.
