Last season, the Portland Pythons were 10-4 entering the playoffs. The team was collectively on fire. They closed out the regular season with a three game win streak. The defense was downright cruel, leading the league in fewest points allowed per game. They’d lucked out on waivers and picked up a later comer to the league who they thought might be the final piece to their championship puzzle, a young safety named Will H Harrison, who impressed by picking off three passes in his three games of the regular season.
Everything fell apart, starting with a key interception infield goal range, in the playoffs, against the Kansas City Coyotes. That interception cost the Pythons a score, and led to a Coyotes touchdown. It was essentially the difference.
But, had they not lost that game, Portland would not have picked second overall in the draft. Coincidentally, that same promising waiver pickup, Will H Harrison, was ranked the number one defensive prospect in the draft. If the Pythons didn’t get that 2nd overall pick, they couldn’t have selected Harrison. They wouldn’t have him back for this year’s revenge tour, potentially the DSFL story of the year. He’d probably be a Coyote or a Luchadore, right now.
