10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?
While a lot of people would likely aim big, such as contraction or expansion of teams, I'd like to revamp the one hit wonder, ISFL Golden Ticket. I haven't been in the league long (I think it's been about 6 in real life months, which is crazy), but I haven't quite seen the buzz for something else quite like this. It became a big hit overnight, probably due to the ability to even make a small amount of money fairly easily. There has been a lot of discussion about bringing it back and how to best implement a system that is not a cash grab while still getting enjoyment out of the idea. Here are my following ideas of what to change or add or subtract.
Maximum of 5 tickets per person per IRL week.
Limit tickets to 1 player per position per IRL week (QB, RB, WR/TE, DL/LB, DB).
Tickets can be earned or purchased. In order to earn tickets, a user must do some piece of media/graphics/podcast.
If purchasing, each ticket costs 1 million in weeks with 3 games and 1.5 million in weeks with 4 games (due to doubleheaders).
Remove the 1 million dollar tier, reduce the next 2 tiers to 5 million and 50 million.
Someone smarter than me can see if the stats needed for certain tiers were on point or if those need to be adjusted or not.
My thoughts on this revolve around the idea that we are hoping to hit the jackpot, not just allow people to make easy money. Making the one ticket per IRL week reduces the ability to mix and match tickets for each weekly matchup (via sim testing). Upping the price of the tickets also reduces the cash flow prospect, but we also want newer users to be involved, so allowing them to earn tickets via other means allows them to play and get a chance to hit it big.
13. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better?
I am choosing to talk about my boy, @IceBear32. Mainly because this is my chance to rib him in public. However, Ice has been a phenomenal presence in the ISFL since I've been around. We have a love/hate relationship mainly due to the casino work that he pretends to do, while I do the actual work. I also like to give him shit for not drafting my player but 12 other teams also passed on Benji, so I cut him some slack on that. For real though, he and Flex have done a great job of rebuilding Honolulu into an annual contender while also building and maintaining a fun atmosphere in the league spaces as well as the Honolulu locker room.
As I've had an affinity for the casino since I joined, and was looking for a job at the time, Ice let me know that he was looking to finish that up and teach me his job. With the blessing of dude_man, Ice starting mentoring me in the ways of the casino. After a quick 5 minute conversation, he had told me everything he knew and I was off to the races. Suffice to say though, he did step up many times when I needed help, whether I was busy with something else or on vacation. Since we both enjoy the betting and gambling aspect of the ISFL, we do a user bet each time Honolulu plays Arizona. I should really tally that up to see where we stand. But I'll assume that I have won 2/3 each season so I'm likely up. That's what makes Ice such a good guy, always willing to help the homeless.
Next step for Ice and Honolulu is to take home the Ultimus. They are now a perennial playoff contender so there's always a chance. Their team building strategy is working so hopefully they can keep it up. There are few people in this league that deserve an Ultimus, and Ice is definitely not one of them. Juuuuuuuuuuust kidding. Ice Ice Bear Bear...
