The transition from "Georgia's Greatest TE of Team History" to "Future NSFL Hall of Fame TE" just took it's first steps towards reality within the past week.
Ricky Maddox made the news earlier when he announced on his Twitter that he was recently "handpicked by the GOAT" Michael Jordan to help continue his legacy. The Jordan Brand and Maddox agreed to terms for a deal that makes Maddox the highest profile TE to enter the draft.
Shortly after that, the NSFL Draft was upon us. From reports around the family of Ricky Maddox, who declined to go to the draft and opted to be with his whole family in Georgia to watch, he was fairly calm and confident that he would make the top ten rounds.
Initially, he was not the happiest camper when he noticed that there's been absolutely 0 contact between him and the GMs before the draft. Not even as close to a personal workout for a team. He quickly made it an afterthought with the hours closing in, saying that "the right team knows that they won't let me go, that and they need to make sure they bring the right pieces before me, so I can thrive in the system along with my teammates. All of the GMs have my tape and what I did at Georgia so it's not like they don't know what I'm capable of."
Ricky was pretty damn adamant on where he would land leading up to the draft.
"Look, here's what's gonna end up happening. I'm gonna end up drafted in the top ten rounds, number two TE for reasons unknown, even though I'm clearly the best TE on paper."
While eating some of his uncle's special BBQ ribs and mac & cheese, not even an hour into the draft, he would then get the call that would kick start his NSFL career.
"You ready for a trip to Canada and be a catalyst of the Yellowknife Wraiths success?"
"Haha, it'll definitely be different. Let's get to work!"
----------------
"With the 50th pick of the Inaugural 2017 NSFL Draft, the Yellowknife Wraiths select:
Ricky Maddox.
Tight End.
Georgia."
After hearing his name, Ricky got ganged up by his family in hugs and kisses from the family around him, trying to avoid dropping his plate of food.
Those ribs were too good to waste!
Although there were some thoughts that crept in as the draft got later.
"Really? There's 49 players that deserved to be picked ahead of me? I don't buy it. Haha"
--------------
Shortly after the draft, the contract negotiations were fairly straight forward.
Not a hiccup in sight and the three year rookie deal was confirmed by the team website.
"Now that all of the black and white is all wrapped up, I can focus on what I do best: improve and make this team better."
With training camp and OTAs getting closer to the end, it's apparent that Ricky Maddox is the clear #1 TE in the NSFL. That thought hasn't left his mind.
"Hell, I drafted myself first overall in Fantasy Football. I have the ability and I love to bet on myself. I trust only myself to get the job done at the TE position. Thug Life."
With everything that has transpired, the transition from campus legend to NSFL rookie has been filled with it's ups and downs but its going to be worth it in the long run.
Patience, confidence, chicken wings and hard work will lead Maddox to success. With all of the things that has happened to Ricky Maddox throughout his life, it's only a matter of time before he rises to the occasion.
Whether you're on the sideline cheering or in his highlight reel as he runs through you, be advised that he did warn you.
Just sayin'.
