San Jose began its full rebuild this season by trading their franchise cornerback Benson Bayley for a backup CB, a 1st round pick in Season Nine, and an additional third round pick in the same season. The team didn't have any substantial expectations heading into the season, and essentially it was a given that ways to acquire meaningful draft capital must be found, however painful they may be. Some deals that should have been made were not made, but the team was left with at the most, five picks in the first two rounds of the Season Nine draft assuming some trade conditions were met. The team has a franchise quarterback and a great young linebacker to build both sides of the team, but everything else is left open for improvement. This upcoming draft is a pivotal moment in SaberCat history, and all rebuilds need solid players to establish the future foundation and direction of the franchise. The capital is now there to make moves and get this team on track to find itself in competition once again. San Jose has traditionally struggled, but with its first true franchise quarterback things can only improve as the team finds an identity and moves forward with optimism.
