The S9 NSFL Draft is bound to be a crazy one this year. We have teams that are looking to reload, rebuild, and continue to contend. This draft class is one of the best that the NSFL has seen in recent memory. These draftees will be able to make an immediate and long-term impact on needy teams. Each team has different needs that they will need to address in this draft, but something that’s often overlooked is the draftee’s need from teams. Will a potential team be able to accommodate such draftee’s talent? Do they have a positive and active locker room? Does the draftee want to win now, or are they fine with sitting in on a rebuild? It’s perfectly fine for a draftee to ask these questions, and it’s also alright if they want to hold off on getting drafted by a team because of it.
With all of that out of the way, let’s take a look at RB prospect out of San Antonio, Marquise Brown. He’s a kid that goes by many names; “Marquee Marquise”, “TDB”, to name a few. But the most remarkable and true-to-word nickname of his would have to be “Touchdown Brown”. And rightfully so, as the prospect rushed for a whopping 15 touchdowns on 264 attempts last season, leading the DSFL and breaking the previous record held by DSFL legend Borro Gore. And on top of that, he’s been super active, developing at an amazing pace and maximizing his opportunities. At this point, NSFL GMs know what they are getting from Marquise Brown: a phenomenal talent who’s looking to be a leader and win. With that being said, Brown knows what he’s getting out of NSFL teams and who has or hasn’t impressed him so far. Here is the prospect’s tiered shortlist of teams he’d be happy (or not so happy) to get drafted by.
Tier 4: Meh?
8. New Orleans Second Line @AsylumParty @bovovovo
Coming in seventh are the ASFC representatives in the season eight Ultimus, the New Orleans Second Line. New Orleans has yet to reach out to me, that is, if they ever will. Simply put, New Orleans isn’t looking for an RB. With an MOP candidate in the backfield in Smallwood, why would they? They do have a major need at WR though, and while I can fill that spot, I have let GMs know that I want to stay as RB for as long as I can in my career.
7. Yellowknife Wraiths @Bzerkap
Seventh, I have the Ultimus champion Yellowknife Wraiths. Yellowknife has a crowded backfield, to say the least. They’re a very talented team with a great offense and great defense. I don’t know if I’d mind becoming a WR for Yellowknife, but like I’ve stated with GMs, I want to stay as RB for as long as I can, and I wouldn’t be wanting to have to compete with two other talented backs.
Tier 3: Might be bad… might be great?
6. Baltimore Hawks @manicmav36 @iamslm22
The Baltimore Hawks come in at sixth. Their offense is stacked, and at this moment they simply don’t have a need at RB that they need to address. Owen Taylor is a phenomenal back and from the looks of it, he’ll only be continuing this pace for a little while longer. To add on to this, Baltimore has a very stacked offense and there’s literally nowhere that I’d be needed on the offensive side of the ball as of right now, which turns me off to them just a bit. However, being the succession plan to Owen Taylor would not be a bad position for me to be in.
5. Colorado Yeti @Supersquare04 @TheMemeMaestro
Colorado comes in at fifth. Overall, this Yeti team is young and has a lot of upside. As of right now, they really don’t have any major offensive weapons. Applehort and Grau haven’t had a major impact on this Yeti offense, but they can and will turn into more developed players. With that, this Yeti backfield is looking to be pretty crowded as time goes on, especially if I’m drafted. I’m not sure how I’d fit into this team and I don’t know if Colorado would be the most beneficial spot for me to land. However, I think I could make an immediate impact on this squad after developing fully, and if they’re willing to take a chance on me then I’ll make it worth their while and help lead this franchise to glory.
4. Orange County Otters @speculadora @Molarpistols
At number four, I have the Otters. I think Orange County would be a pretty good fit for me. Orange County came second to last in overall team rushing yardage in season eight, only garnering 1195 rushing yards. Their running game is really all over the place with no clear leader leading the rushing attack. Yates could basically be considered a WR out of the backfield with how much they utilize him as a WR. A combo of me and Yates could actually be lethal if used right. But there are two reasons that make me somewhat weary of being drafted to Orange County. Number one would be their reliance on Boss and the air attack. Orange County came second to last in rushing yards, but they came first in passing yards, gaining almost 400 more yards than the team that came in second, the Philadelphia Liberty. Boss is well, a boss, and it’s evident that Boss and the passing game is Orange County’s only real mode of offense. Being put in a pass first system as a back who can’t really be utilized as a receiver is unsettling to me. Number two would be, well, their age. Orange County is old, and they’ll soon be entering a rebuild. I’m not against sitting on a rebuild, in fact I’m fine with it. Thing is, there’d be uncertainty regarding my future as an Otter. Would they trade me for picks or younger prospects down the line? Overall, if these problems are solved then I would have no issue playing for the Otters.
Tier 2: Great places to land
3. Philadelphia Liberty @BWIII @Dawegg
It’s no secret that Philly is getting old and they’re about to enter a rebuilding phase. With the retirement of Tyler Oles, where is Philly going to turn to for offensive production? Carter Bush, while a solid back, is better used in a receiving back role. With my potential to be a bell-cow back, I believe that I can lead this offense and this team through it’s coming rebuilding phase and make a name for myself here in Philly, which is why they come in at number 3. Similar to Orange County, a duo of me and Bush could be VERY lethal coming out of the backfield. I’d be content sitting in through the rebuild while we “trust the process” and build a championship caliber team out of young prospects like me. Overall, Philly would be a great place to get drafted to and I think I could do some serious damage here.
2. San Jose Sabercats @Dawegg
At number 2, San Jose comes in. San Jose was last in team rushing yardage in season eight… amassing only 968 rushing yards and 7… It’s safe to note to San Jose that in my rookie season of the DSFL, I had over 300 more rushing yards and over half more rushing touchdowns. San Jose can’t hope to start winning with this unimpressive backfield weighing both rookie QB Brad Pennington and the entire team down. I believe that I could make an impact on this promising squad and relieve some pressure off of Pennington, giving him an actual weapon to use in this dry offense. San Jose would be a fantastic place for me to land as me and Pennington could lead the coming youth movement of these next few talented draft classes.
Tier 1: Dream Destination
1. Arizona Outlaws @run_CMC @Roly
And for my top pick to be drafted by and my dream destination, I choose the Arizona Outlaws. This team from top to bottom has been nothing but impressive to me as a prospect. Arizona’s management is spot on and on the ball, having regular conversations with me about the draft and about my season last year. They’re both San Antonio alumni as well! On top of all that, they have a great quarterback in Bronko that can still lead a team. He’s talked to me on occasion, and I’d say we’re pretty well-acquainted with one another. And what else is there to be said about Reg Mackworthy? Arguably the greatest runningback of all time, just broke the rushing yardage record in the NSFL… he’d be great to stand behind for a bit and to learn from a top runningback would be beneficial for my career as his heir. Arizona has the second pick of the draft, and I can 100% guarantee if they took the chance to draft me, they wouldn’t be disappointed whatsoever.
And that’s all she wrote currently. I’m looking forward to the draft and maybe talking more with GMs about my future in the NSFL. Thank you all for reading and thank you to the GMs that reached out to me, and of course, please don't take any of this personally, every GM that has messaged me has been nothing but professional and helpful. Think of these as power rankings.
