So we all know this DSFL draft has been one of the most hyped up ones in recent memory at least. With some really big names from agents that are well known and some new guys, this draft was loaded wall to wall with talent. Of course we were blessed with the talent that is Kazimir Oles in this draft, but he is on a different team so he won't be talked about at all. I want to go into depth a little bit about the draft picks that the Portland Pythons made and give my analysis about them and their draft stock for the upcoming season 10 NSFL draft. So instead of having you keep reading on this useless part, let's get to the good stuff which is why you came here right?
With the third overall selection, the Portland Pythons selected - D'Pez Poopsie, RB
Reasoning: I mean you need a runningback to offset your pass game and D'Pez is about as good as they come. Listed at six feet and three inches and 235 pounds, this man is looking to run through defenses. We have never seen a mammoth of a man like this who can run at you full speed and literally run through you. If he can continue working on his speed, I don't see why he can't be the homerun threat that this Pythons offense needs.
What he means to this offense: He will be relied upon to get plenty of first downs each game. While he may not juke you out of your shoes, or run you over like a bowling ball, he sure can go the distance if he gets outside. This guy seems like he will be getting into a lot of team's secondaries rather quickly, so hopefully opposing defenders manage to work on their speed a well, if not, see ya.
NSFL Draft Stock: Currently he will be selected in the first two rounds. Now this could become a solid first round pick if he can manage to keep up his production levels. Also it really depends on a team's need and if a hole opens up at the runningback spot, he could go pretty early in the draft.
Draft Grade: A
With the fifth overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Joliet L. Christ, QB
Reasoning: To go with their bell cow runningback, they opted for the top quarterback available at this pick. Joliet is returning to a team in which he saw limited action but showed enough promise for the GM to want to bring him back. This guy is a mobile quarterback and he can extend the play if there isn't anything open with his feet. While nothing about him stands out, he should be able to command this offense pretty well and he could make a push for the DSFL MVP if things work out the way they should for him.
What he means to this offense: He will be under center and he will be the one calling the shots out there on game day. If a player happens to be open and Joliet sees said player open, he can either hit the player in stride or make a play with his legs. This kid will be very special and fun to watch come game day.
NSFL Draft Stock: With a slew of quarterbacks making their way through the system, it may be hard to put him as a first round pick. Look for him to be selected either in the second or third round of draft. With some of the GM's bringing a single called that they represent, it's going to be hard to pin point where he will end up. It's really tough put an accurate spot on where a quarterback will land with enough on teams currently, so it's possible he could end up a back up for some time.
Draft Grade: A
With the seventh overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Lucari Felix, CB
Reasoning: Lucari is not only the first cornerback taken in the draft, he is the first defensive back taken in the draft. Currently one of the taller corners in this draft, he will look to make his mark this upcoming season. With speed and hands being his focus, he intends on making sure that wide receivers don't burn him deep and he will be trying for a lot of interceptions. Hopefully his size will help him out when it comes to some of the taller receivers as well.
What he means to this defense: Lucari is looking to help revamp a secondary that didn't see much action last year. He is just a staple in the defense and he is hoping to play a larger role than he had last year. It's uncertain where he will line up and which receivers he will be facing, but he has been working hard. Hopefully his speed will be enough to keep up and not let games get out of hand quickly.
NSFL Draft Stock: If he keeps up his stock, he could be a lock for a first round pick. NSFL teams are always in of defense so he could easily rise up draft boards. Now there is concern as this pick could turn out to be a bad one as he hasn't had a successful player and there is always the off-chance he could retire early. If he can stay active and keep up his gains, he could very well be a great pick for any team who picks him up.
Draft Grade: B+
With the eighth overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Shannon Hobbs, CB/S
Reasoning: The Portland Pythons are continuing to beef up their secondary with this pick. Shannon was selected as a corner but will be moving to safety. This team's secondary is going to be something interesting to watch here soon enough. This team has some solid pieces on offense and adding in Shannon to help out Lucari over top is going to be something great to watch. It's going to be a fun season to watch for sure with the Pythons.
What he means to this defense: Shannon will be making sure that if the ball is thrown up top and any of the CB's can't get there or they get burnt, he will be there to clean up their mess. Shannon will be a ball hawk to will be pretty much the janitor of this secondary as he will be cleaning up any mistake that happens.
NSFL Draft Stock: He has the talent to be a first round pick. Again just like his teammate Lucari, teams are always looking for defenders who can contribute immediately. Secondaries are always something that seem to be a problem for some team and if he can keep his activity up, he could easily fit into the first round as well.
Draft Grade: B+
With the thirteenth overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Damien Arnold, S
Reasoning: This just solidifies the secondary already. The team will be making sure that opposing passing games will not be throwing on them at all. This secondary looks like it could really shut down any quarterback who tries to throw the ball on them. This kid has speed and agility to be able to keep up with any wide receiver when he comes over top of any corner on this team.
NSFL Draft Stock: A potential first round pick as secondaries are always in need of talent yet again. If his activity continues at the level it is, this pick could be a homerun for any team out there. He could be the third Python off the draft board in the first round when it comes time for the season 10 NSFL draft.
Draft Grade: B
With the seventeenth overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Taylor Peterson, WR
Reasoning: The first offensive weapon since the team took it's quarterback Joliet. Peterson looks to come in and make an immediate impact on this team. He isn't exactly tall at all but he has the speed and agility to hopefully make a few defenders miss. This kid has the potential to put up big numbers and he could end up being a 1,000 yard receiver as long as Joliet's progression continues the right way.
What he means to this offense: He will be one of the team's top options. He should help alleviate the passing game for Joliet and give him a solid pass catcher. He has solid run after the catch ability and he should help put some numbers up on the board.
NSFL Draft Stock: It seems like the NSFL is over-saturated with wide receivers so he will probably end up being a second or third round pick. If he keeps up his earning though, he could really be a nice steal for any team that picks him.
Draft Grade: B-
With the twenty-first overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Adam Krossman, RB
Reasoning: Every solid runningback needs to take a break at some time right? He may see some touches and it could help out the team in times of need.
What he means to this offense: He will be there to give D'Pez a break when he really needs one. He could come in on third downs or something.
NSFL Draft Stock: Second or third rounder.
Draft Grade: C
With the twenty-fifth overall selection, the Portland Pythons select - Felix Hasselhoff
Reasoning: Another option for the passing game.
What he means to the offense: He will be another person to help out in the passing game opposite Peterson.
NSFL Draft Stock: Second or third rounder.
Draft Grade: B-
