The DSFL saw one of it's finest crops of young athletes take the stage only a handful of night ago as the entry draft once again welcomed a host of talented young stars in the making. The draft was riddled with extreme talent in multiple aspects of the game, from an elite ball moving quarterback unit, to a masterfully crafted running game class, and even a patch of defensive stars that will one day be the face of NSFL franchises across the nation. It is already evident beyond a shadow of a doubt that this class, being the first to occupy the second decade of NSFL history, will be one to remember. Even as the first week of their careers begin, it is become increasingly obvious that these players are here not just to play football, but also to change the game as we know it. Today we will be taking a brief look over some of the players selected and speaking on their potential as a DSFL player, while also projecting where they will land in the highly anticipated S10 NSFL Draft.
1st Overall - Kazimir Oles - - 134 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Franchise Player
NSFL Draft Prediction - Top 3
If anyone were to claim that Kazimir Oles would not be selected first overall, they would be deemed delusional. It's not often you have a player of this caliber come along, and Oles is already primed to take the DSFL by storm. The Kansas City Coyotes are looking to continue the success they saw in S8 with their Ultimini run this season, and by selecting Oles they have secured the potential to do exactly that. When that field goal went through marking the defeat of the Coyotes on home field, it was a heart wrenching moment for fans across the nation, but especially in Kansas. There is an obvious call for blood by Coyotes fans, and gaining an elite talent such as Oles might just be enough to suffocate those cries as he hopes to obliterate records league wide behind an elite passing offense. Even in the short period of time that he's had to grow in the NSFL, Oles has already done a great job going about progressing, with boosts to his strength from the weight room and work on his endurance. What really sets Oles apart from his competition though is his blistering hot speed and blazing agility that will allow him to shake off defensive backs of any skill level.
2nd Overall - Achilles Hondo - - 123 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Franchise Player
NSFL Draft Prediction - Top 5
Achilles Hondo falls in a similar boat to Oles in the sense that he was a deadlock to be a top three selection. When the second overall pick rolled around though, many fans were expecting the change of ownership that we saw as the San Antonio Marshals already possessed an outstanding backfield in returning talent Marquise Brown. The Marshals flipped the second overall to Tijuana along with a fourth round pick for Tijuana's third round selection, corner back Danny Vranos, and defensive tackle Omar Wrong in an effort to shore up their defensive unit and the rest was history. Hondo was well known during his college career for being a physical nightmare for opposing linebackers with his brute strength coupled with strong footwork. His ability to avoid the tackle will make him a terrifying threat for any defensive player that might line up against him, and you can be sure that if he's going down, he's taking a few with him on the way. Hondo will fit right in with the high octane offense that the Luchadores have historically love to run, and will power his way straight into the ranks of NSFL greats.
3rd Overall - D'Pez Poopsie - - 123 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Superstar
NSFL Draft Prediction - 1st Round
The third overall selection saw the third offensive player come off the board, and the running back game is certain to remain dominant with Portland's addition of D'Pez Poopsie in the first round. Poopsie hails out of Jackson, Mississippi and attended Ole Miss for his collegiate pursuits where he saw tremendous success as an all-purpose back. This usage as both a powerful force and a finesse artist will translate nicely into the DSFL where similar stars such as Elijah Lagerfield have thrived using this skill set. Poopsie has gone about stepping up his speed and on field intelligence in order to find holes in the opposing rush and will be able to pick apart his opponents defense with ease all while remaining relatively unscathed. Look for the Pythons to start Poopsie behind Lagerfield as a full back this season, and to mostly use him as their punch in guy on the goal line, a role that he excelled in with Ole Miss. The season hasn't even started and already debates can be made as to which of the two running backs selected in this first round will end the season on top.
4th Overall - Adriana Falconi - - 165 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Franchise Player
NSFL Draft Prediction - Top 3
The Luchadores late season roster addition, quarterback Adriana Falconi out of Columbia University, returns home in a spectacular move by the Tijuana management that sees them kick starting a new generation of talent south of the border. Falconi has been recognized across the football community in North America for having an elite aptitude to be an incredibly consistent passer which is just what the Luchadores need. When you run a fast pace offense like the Luchadores do, you need to build your team around a quarterback that is able to handle the pressure and Falconi is exactly that. Her on field intelligence and patience in the few games she played with the Luchadores last season while leading them to the Ultimini championship was a perfect showcase of what she is capable of and how she will perform in Tijuana this season. If you couple her cool and collected nature with her ability to move the ball, you have a franchise quarterback in the wings that is just waiting for her chance to fully break into the NSFL and shatter the gender barrier that has existed at quarterback since football was first played. This pick is more than just a strategic move, it's a game changer.
5th Overall - Joliet L. Christ - - 117 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Star
NSFL Draft Prediction - 1st/2nd Round
When Joliet. L Christ first declared for the NSFL draft, fans across the nation were taken completely by surprise as the young star who seemed destined for the NFL stage made his way into a fresh and exciting new market. Christ was placed in a similar situation to Falconi at the end of last season when he signed a one season deal with the Portland Pythons as a draftee free agent and was a key part of their offense that vaulted them into the playoffs over the Norfolk Seawolves. Christ plays a much different style from Falconi, preferring to move around with the ball rather than trusting his offensive line and will more than likely utilize his speed and agility before he resorts to passing the ball. With the previous pick up of D'Pez Poopsie at third overall, it is looking like Portland will be aiming for a heavily run based offense this season, possibly even employing a Spread offense over the much more popular West Coast that is used by many teams in the pro ranks. No matter the situation, Christ is primed to be a superstar.
6th Overall - Odell Marrett - - 80 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Marquee Talent
NSFL Draft Prediction - 2nd Round
After trading away the second overall pick and addressing some of their issues on defense, many fans were left assuming that San Antonio would be spending their second round pick to gain some offensive fire power, especially in the area of air play where they lack a strong receiver. Instead, the team opted to continue to grow their pass rush by adding speed rushing defensive end Odell Marrett out of Alabama State. Marrett was born and raised in the capital of Alabama, Montgomery, where football is a die hard commitment, and you can see it in the way that he plays on the field. Clocking in at a massive six foot six and three hundred pounds, Marrett can appear to be a freight train as he barrels towards you at field speed and with huge contact to annihilate your quarterback. Marret will be a sack specialist, using his immense size and strength to shake off offensive lineman and blow into the backfield for tackle after tackle. Marrett will more than likely excel tremendously under the Marshals historically elite pass rushing defense.
7th Overall - Lucari Felix - - 124 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Superstar
NSFL Draft Prediction - 1st Round
The streak of offensive players being taken is finally broken as the Portland Pythons begin to build their defensive group by selecting corner back Lucari Felix out of Florida State. Felix has already made a name for himself as a top prospect in this class, and many were surprised to see him drop all the way into the bottom of the second round, expecting him to barely last past the first round of the draft if even that. Felix prides himself on having exceptional man to man coverage and being one of the fastest players on the field at all time while keeping up with agile receivers and being able to make interceptions with ease. Felix is definitely the top defensive player in this class without a doubt, so it will be interesting to see how his play translates into joining the Pythons team which has had some great pass defenders in the past. If Felix can continue the tradition of exceptional players in Portland, this will be an amazing pick up.
8th Overall - Shannon Hobbs - - 100 TPE
DSFL Prediction - Star
NSFL Draft Prediction 1st/2nd Round
Immediately after selecting Lucari Felix the Pythons announced their third pick of the second round which would be none other than Shannon Hobbs out of the University of Utah, one of Felix's biggest statistical rivals all through college. Hobbs decides to play a slightly different style of game, opting to be more of a simple coverage corner back and tackler rather than an interception beast like Felix is, and you can see the lack of time spent on his hands come out in the immense time spent honing his speed. Hobbs might be a rookie, but he's already one of the fastest players in the league, let alone at corner back. This is a player that every NSFL team should be watching for, because as he grows in the DSFL he will develop into a powerful and ball hungry player. The only aspect of Hobbs' game that has been critiqued by scouts at this time is his defensive awareness where seems to be lacking a little bit in the ability to read plays, but things like that will come with time.
