I’m sure everyone knows why we’re here. Yes, after the pick was made, I made the stunning announcement that I would not play for San Jose. There’s been a lot of talk from from fellow players, especially fellow draftee Poopsie. I know not most of it has been good, only monitoring twitter while waiting for this press conference to come to order and seeing the issues people have. I would like to apologize to Poopsie, and every other player on the Sabercats. I know it can be a bit of a distraction on draft night to have a high pick declare right after being picked that he would not play for the team. I know some may see it as selfish, some may see it as a bad move to steal the spotlight, but for me I had a few reasons behind it. First and foremost the communication issue with the sudden departure of the team’s co-gm and franchise QB Brad Pennington. The current GM was lacking communication and was seemingly getting back into the grove of being a GM after many seasons of letting their co-gm do most of the work. The next issue was the lack of stability, the QB trade plays into this a lot, it worries me that as soon as they get to a somewhat competitive level everything is going to fall apart again and the team hasn’t really shown to be stable.
Now I know everyone is wondering, am I legitimately holding out and not playing for the Sabercats, it has been a hot topic all throughout the draft night, with multiple messages from fellow SJS draftees, and their GM. Put it simply, I was frustrated early on about not going first overall, I was very much the first overall pick in every sense of the pick, and it was frustrating not to be first. Again, to everyone involved, sorry for causing trouble, but I will NOT be holding out and I am looking forward to playing in San Jose for multiple seasons. Why put my teammates through this? Simply put I wanted to get a message out and hopefully get the GM to be better at communicating in the future and help create a team that is able to really contend and be a dynasty with the great offense we’re bound to have.
Out of Character real fast: First time around I didn’t want to rock the boat at all with the draft, with it being much different this time around I figured I’d have some fun with the draft and cause a bit of drama. I knew the response was going to be what it was, and in the NSFL HO Discord I actually told them it was a ruse just to have some fun and cause some chaos. One of the main things is I wanted to bust CK’s balls a bit after he failed to communicate what was going on, I’m sure some people are a bit annoyed with me (especially @Muford) and I know some people are a bit mad at this chaos. I’m sorry to cause any issues, but I wanted to have some fun and I had a lot of fun with this, although it was at the expense of my teammates. Again, I’m sorry for the trouble that was caused, and I can’t wait to actually play for San Jose. @ckroyal92, I had to, I know you had just gotten back into the grove of everything as a GM, and doing this at the expense of you and all other Sabercats might not be the best move, but know that I am committed to the Sabercats for the future. When CK told me who the plan was for 1oa and 2oa I knew he was going to take Muford first, and that did feel a bit disrespectful considering everything I’ve done in the league, not being 1oa was a bit frustrating.
