Back again this season. This guide is a little late again but hey, it's here to guide anyone who is fairly clueless whether you're new to the NSFL or don't pay attention too much to around the league! As far as my credentials go, I finished 2nd in my group last season behind majesiu who finished 1st among all groups in fantasy. So I hope this guide is helpful and gives you a sense of who you should draft around when!
Round 1 Talent
1. Owen Taylor - RB
Important stats: 1713 rush yards, 409 receiving yards, 23 rush TD, 4 receiving TD, 375.2 points
Owen Taylor had a ridiculous season as the top RB and top fantasy scorer in the NSFL. He outscored the 2nd best fantasy RB, Darren Smallwood, by over 100 points. That is a ridiculous margin and Taylor certainly proved me wrong for ranking him below Smallwood last season. So he slots in as the consensus #1 for Season 11 even while battling regression, as the Hawks should still be dominant with Ryan Applehort taking over the keys to the offense.
2. Borkus Maximus III - QB
Important stats: 5026 pass yards, 40 TD, 12 INT, 2 rush TD, 335.04 points
Maximus similarly dominated among all QBs, finishing over 50 points above former QB Avon Blocksdale. Surrounded by talent in the New Orleans' offense, Maximus might not perform any better than this. Former league MVP Carlito Crush also joined the Second Line around midseason, giving Borkus yet another elite target, but now he has left in free agency. With offensive weapons like running back Darren Smallwood and wide receiver Charlie Law aging, expect a slight downturn in production. But still, with the departure of Avon Blocksdale, this makes QB an even shallower position in the NSFL.
3. Darren Smallwood - RB
Important stats: 1211 rush yards, 428 receiving yards, 15 rush TD, 3 receiving TD, 272.9 points
Smallwood is definitely going to be hit hard by regression now, which is unfortunate. He could not keep up with Owen Taylor's pace last season, but still finished 2nd in fantasy points among RBs and 4th overall in the NSFL. New Orleans should still have a quite elite offense and expect Smallwood to get by with pure volume off of scoring opportunities.
4. Ryan Applehort - QB
Important stats: 4314 pass yards, 36 TD, 14 INT, 257.96 points
Applehort made a huge jump over from the Colorado Yeti to the Baltimore Hawks this past offseason. This move coincided with Avon Blocksdale's move to cornerback, as Applehort takes over the reins to this offense. Applehort will be surrounded with elite receiving talent including WR Trey Willie and TE Verso L'Alto. Finishing 3rd among all QBs in points, only marginally worse than Blocksdale, expect Applehort to be the clear #2 QB in the league.
5. Trey Willie - WR
Important stats: 1212 receiving yards, 15 receiving TD, 212.2 points
Trey Willie was the top scoring wide receiver last season, and should continue to see a huge number of targets in this Hawks offense. Not much to say here, you know what you're getting out of Willie and he's got one of the safest fantasy floors out there.
6. Marquise Brown - RB
Important stats: 1902 rush yards, 33 receiving yards, 7 rush TD, 236.5 points
Marquise Brown finished 3rd in scoring among all RBs and 6th overall in the NSFL despite playing on an 0-14 Liberty team. Brown got pretty much every single carry in this offense, which is why he was able to put up such gaudy volume-based numbers. As he develops, his efficiency should improve, but you'd also expect the Liberty to pass more as they get out of this tanking phase. Brown is thus tough to project, but the volume should still be there again this season.
7. Howard Miller - WR
Important stats: 1430 receiving yards, 11 receiving TD, 210 points
Howard Miller topped the NSFL in receiving yards in Season 10, but losing Ryan Applehort as well as his wide out teammate Dwayne Aaron should hamper this offense immensely. We'll see how Micycle McCormick does in his first season as a QB. At the very least, without Aaron, Miller will command a huge number of targets in this offense especially in the red zone.
Round 2 Talent
8. Reg Mackworthy - RB
Important stats: 1494 rush yards, 99 receiving yards, 11 rush TD, 226.3 points
The elderly Mackworthy continues to churn out fantasy relevant numbers in this Outlaws offense. This Outlaws team is extremely young and QB Kevin Fitzpatrick continues to develop. This means more scoring opportunities and hopefully a way for Mackworthy to continue to battle regression while remaining fantasy relevant. Mackworthy has got the volume in this offense and deserves solid attention as a Tier 2 running back.
9. Charlie Law - WR
Important stats: 1283 receiving yards, 12 receiving TD, 201.3 points
The aging wide out for the Second Line continues to put up elite fantasy numbers. Law finished 2nd in fantasy points among WRs and seems to remain as QB Borkus Maximus III's favorite target. Expect Law to continue to produce at an advanced level.
10. Carlito Crush - WR
Important stats: 1425 receiving yards, 6 receiving TD, 179.5 points
The Season 9 league MVP had a very disappointing season between appearing for Orange County and New Orleans. Just the 6 receiving touchdowns pushed Crush down to being merely a top 5 WR last season although he was nearly universally drafted in the first round in fantasy drafts. Now back in Orange County with Tegan Atwell, the Orange County offense could make a huge jump from last season. Count on Crush to have a potentially monstrous bounceback season.
11. Tegan Atwell - WR
Important stats: 1348 receiving yards, 9 receiving TD, 189.8 points
Atwell had a fantastic season in her first as a Yellowknife Wraith. Clicking with QB Brad Pennington, Atwell cemented herself as the #1 option as fellow WR Eric Kennedy faded in production. Now back in Orange County like Crush, the tandem should terrorize opposing cornerbacks and give QB Gus Showbiz a huge upgrade in available talent on offense.
12. Verso L'Alto - TE
Important stats: 875 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD, 94.5 points
I was very low on L'Alto last season despite his lofty average draft position. And it turned out that those who drafted him high in the 2nd and, some even in the 1st round, paid dearly. L'Alto simply did not get the red zone targets last season, finishing with a disastrous 1 TD and 3rd among all tight ends. Perhaps this will change this season, so I'd be willing to give L'Alto a flier at the end of the 2nd round into the 3rd.
13. Gus Showbiz - QB
Important stats: 3532 pass yards, 13 TD, 8 INT, 174.18 points
Showbiz struggled especially in the second half of last season after the Otters traded away Carlito Crush. Now with Crush back as well as Atwell, Showbiz should see a monstrous uptick in performance as he continues to develop as well. Expect 200+ points at minimum.
14. Ricky Adams - RB
Important stats: 1188 rush yards, 304 receiving yards, 10 rush TD, 210.2 points
I'm seriously giving the Otters a lot of love here in the 2nd round, but it's not biased I swear. The Otters offense just has a lot of mid-level talent that has the potential to all click together. Adams was a huge steal last season, finishing 7th in fantasy points among all players. Adams should be the bell cow for this Otters offense, which as I've said before, should improve massively.
15. Robby Rainey - RB
Important stats: 1041 rush yards, 67 receiving yards, 10 rush TD, 171.8 points
Rainey is hurt slightly from splitting carries with Gore on the Wraiths. However, he still provides solid production. I worry about the Wraiths offense now, however, with WR Eric Kennedy gone and WR Tegan Atwell leaving in free agency. Rainey is a high risk high reward pick here, as there aren't too many great options at RB after him.
Round 3 Talent
16. Viggo Squanch - WR
Important stats: 1111 receiving yards, 8 receiving TD, 160.1 points
Squanch is the top WR option on this Outlaws team and Kevin Fitzpatrick continues to improve. Squanch has a pretty great floor serving in this outlet, but of course a limited ceiling. He's a great #2 WR option for your team.
16.5: Dwayne Aaron - WR
Important stats: 1087 receiving yards, 7 receiving TD, 151.7 points
Aaron apparently is still contracted for this season and retiring after this season, so I need to slot him in right after Squanch. Micycle McCormick gets a nice bump up from having Aaron too.
17. Glenn McPoyal - TE
Important stats: 1121 receiving yards, 4 receiving TD, 137.1 points
McPoyal finished last season as the top tight end in points. As I mentioned before, L'Alto struggled immensely in the red zone. McPoyal also does not have a great amount of touchdowns, but he is a solid safety blanket for QB Brad Pennington. With Atwell and Kennedy gone, Pennington should continue to target McPoyal in the open field.
18. Mark Grau - RB
Important stats: 1031 rush yards, 221 receiving yards, 6 rush TD, 2 receiving TD, 174.2 points
Grau makes for a decent RB option if you've waited this long. Grau's switch to a power archetype from a speed archetype was confusing and did result in a downtick in production from Season 9. However, at this draft position in the 3rd round, Grau makes a lot of sense for those who couldn't get Taylor or Smallwood and drafted for other needs early on.
19. Kevin Fitzpatrick - QB
Important stats: 3392 pass yards, 17 TD, 6 INT, 195.08 points
Fitzpatrick had a really solid rookie season last year, throwing just 6 interceptions. Taking care of the ball is key to having a good floor, and Fitzpatrick accomplished just that. Unfortunately, he is not surrounded with too much great talent on the offense. Still, steady improvement should lead to another solid season for Fitzpatrick.
20. Kazimir Oles - WR
Important stats: 868 receiving yards, 8 receiving TD, 135.8 points
The #2 overall pick from the Season 10 draft had a surprisingly good rookie season, boosted by 8 TDs tossed by the now retired QB Mat Akselsen. With Joliet Christ stepping into the huddle now for the Sabercats this season, Oles will have a real downfield gunslinger to potentially rack up major yardage. He makes for a pretty big sleeper pick.
21. Paul DiMirio - TE
Important stats: 869 receiving yards, 1 rush TD, 7 receiving TD, 139.1 points
DiMirio is facing regression hard but remains an important cog in the Second Line offense. Unlike the other 2 tight ends ranked above, DiMirio seems to get the red zone targets. The Second Line also should continue to be a top offense this upcoming season.
22. Defense - DEF
Important stats: 7 INT, 68 Sacks, 7 FR, 273 Points Allowed, 164.7 points
The Hawks defense was simply outstanding last season. Even while having the least number of interceptions in the NSFL, they sacked the opposing QB more than anyone and allowed the least number of points. Expect the interception count to correct itself and potentially be a huge number this season.
