Wow. These past two days I've been getting swarmed with journalists trying to start drama and cause tension in my team. I know these two games have been rough. I know i've given them my all and ended up still facing defeat. I know that both of my big second half plays started drives that left no points on the board.
What you "reporters" seem to fail to understand is that football is a team sport. The Blackbirds are not just a group of individuals playing adjacent to each other on the field. We are a f*cking team. I am not going to go out of my way to throw a teammate under the bus because I feel bitter about a loss. How about this: maybe if I turned my interception in game one into a pick six or if I brought that kick return into the house in game two, then we'd actually have a win right now.
Look, I've gone on the record saying that a two quarterback offense is a difficult system to run and our coaches are trying to start it with a pair of rookies. Of course there are going to be growing pains. What you all seem to fail to see is that we as a team lead the league in interceptions so far. That's not just me, that's not just Knight, that's the whole unit.
We're also second in the league for total offensive and passing yards. Do you understand what that means? Our receivers are in sync with two quarterbacks at the same time and able to make big plays for both of them. Lange had a better game 1 and Hendrix had a better game 2 and that's the beauty of this system. Even if one of them has an off day or gets too in his own head, we have an alternate option to lead the squad. And you have to feel bad for any defense that has to learn how to read two different quarterbacks for a single game.
So look, I'm not trying to point blame at anyone in particular. We as a team let each other down these past two games. I know we can do better. I know we are better than this. But godd*mn, stop trying to start sh*t. We have a lot of talent across both sides of the field and honestly, I hope I can get drafted with many of the players from the Blackbirds next week.
These past two days I haven't been yelling across the locker room or going on Twitter to make excuses about what happened. I've sat down with Knight, Green, and Sinclair and watched film. We saw blown coverages, missed opportunities, and miscommunications from all of us. We're young players with no veterans in our group; that much has to be expected.
Yesterday, after our loss, we also watched the entire Wolfpack game four separate times to study what their tendencies were. With 2 interceptions and holding them to only 165 receiving yards tonight, I'm sure you can see how that went on our end. We aren't going to get pushed around by any quarterback-receiving corps group. We stick together and we make plays.
After I'm done addressing this, you can bet I'm joining up with the boys and game planning for tomorrow's game against the Cobras. Leaf Jr. is tied for second fewest interceptions with, guess who, Lange and Hendrix. And you can bet that after tomorrow that stat is going to change drastically.
So to everyone around, listen to this: I'm looking at these losses as ways to only get better as a player and as a team, not to hold out or bash anyone. If you consider yourselves fans or "reporters" of the Blackbirds, I expect you to do the same. If you can't do that, you're no fan of mine.
