The Central Grizzlies have been one interesting team to watch during the prospect tournament. They currently lead the Newbies NFC and look poised to move further on in the tournament. During their first two games, the Grizzlies have been very uneven in generating offense, scoring 24 points in their first game and only 13 in their second. While the offense has no doubt been characterized by a fantastic run game, it is still important to examine the contribution of the pass to opening up the run. This article will take a look at every prospect to have caught a pass for the Grizzlies.
Ahri Espeeyeeseetee WR – 7 Catches, 98 Yards, 0 Touchdowns
Ahri Espeeyeeseetee is a red zone threat wide receiver. Unfortunately, he has yet to find the end zone in the Grizzlies first two games. However, this is more than offset by the fact that he has been the Grizzlies highest volume receiver. He has 7 catches for 98 yards. The majority of his production came during the Grizzlies’ win over the Blackbirds, where he put up a long of 18 yards. During their loss to the Foxes, he was held to a single catch. This was through no fault of his own, as the Foxes succeeded in stifling the efforts of the Grizzlies to establish a passing game. Espeeyeeseetee has shown he has strong fundamentals and can contribute to passing in the open field. One can only assume that touchdowns will come naturally as his keeps his game strong.
Dorfus Jimbo RB – 5 Catches, 55 Yards, 1 Touchdown
Dorfus Jimbo has been overshadowed in the running game by RB prospect Forrest Gump, but he has been the only Grizzlies RB to contribute to the passing game. Jimbo is a speed back, so it is no surprise that his speed helps him get open for receptions. His speed allowed him to rip off a long 26 yard reception during the Grizzlies’ loss to the Foxes. He has also managed to find the end zone once. Dorfus Jimbo has shown that he can be a positive contribution any team’s passing attack. Assuming he continues to develop his receiving and rushing abilities, he could be a very deadly player.
Timmy Hoss TE – 7 Catches, 39 Yards, 1 Touchdown
Timmy Hoss is the sole vertical threat TE in this prospect class. His abilities have shown as he has contributed to the Grizzlies passing attack. He has been a safety blanket for quarterback Gimmy Jaroppolo. He is even the only TE prospect to find the end zone. Unfortunately, Hoss’s game does come with some drawbacks. He has only been effective in the short game. His longest reception is only for 10 yards. If he wants to become a true threat in the passing attack, he is going to have to work on his speed to become more open further downfield. If he develops that ability, he will become an even stronger TE prospect.
Going forward, the Grizzlies offense will likely remain run focused. As has already been shown, this doesn’t mean that receivers won’t get the chance to show their stuff. This Grizzly team is full of prospects that can contribute to any DSFL team’s passing game, and it will be exciting to see how they continue to develop.
