My path towards having an expansion team was much different than that of my competitor, while he sat there wondering whether or not he was going to get a team, worried he might not get one, I had a much different thought. Ever since we had started discussing whether or not to expand I made it clear that I had wanted a team, and essentially applied well before we decided that expansion was the right choice. As time went on, it became clear that I would be one of the GMs, when people found out I was applying they considered one of the GM slots filled, as I was considered to be a lock for one of the spots.
I’m not gonna ramble on as much about how I felt, and what I’ve looked for, mainly because knowing that I was going to get a team early on I got used to the idea that I’d be a GM again pretty fast, so the official announcement just felt like normal procedure. I’ve been out of the GMing game for a while now in the NSFL, my last time as a GM was being sent off as a champion, leading the Season 7 Philadelphia Liberty on a miracle run that I didn’t even think was possible. A lot has changed since that time, testing strategies have become much more refined, teams that were contenders when I was fighting for a title are now bottom feeders barely scraping by, and well San Jose has won a playoff game (and hopefully they win 3 more before I go to my expansion team).
So, I know what everyone wants to know, and that is my team. No, unfortunately this is not a team announcement in that sense, as I’ve struggled to narrow down between 3 choices that I’ve come to like over the process of creating the team. There are 2 cities I’ve got narrowed down, 1 being Louisville, and the other being Chicago. Louisville is an often forgotten sports hub, while they have the Kentucky Derby and Louisville Slugger baseball bats, they don’t have any professional sports teams. As for Chicago, we all know the history Chicago has in the NSFL, the much maligned Chicago Blues were quickly moved to Palm Beach in favor of the Solar Bears branding, and Chicago has quickly become a no go zone for teams. If I went with Chicago I’d want to redeem the city and give it justice. As for the branding behind the name, well that’s a bit rougher, but that’s where the public comes in. Here is a poll with the 3 choices I’ve narrowed it down to. These are the only 3 choices I’m considering at this point, unless someone comes up with a name based in one of the 2 cities I’ve narrowed it down to.
The three choices and my thought process are listed below:
Louisville Pedigree: This is my personal favorite name and idea. Based around the rich history of horse racing, the Pedigree focus is on the claim to fame of Kentucky. The Kentucky Derby and horse racing in general are the best known parts of Louisville, and Kentucky in general, so why not call to that history and use it as a platform for a football team.
Louisville Bootleggers: The other claim to fame for Kentucky (note: Name could be changed to Kentucky Bootleggers if people feel that is better, but I did not include that as to not split Bootlegger voting), Kentucky is known for their alcohol and this would be a platform using exactly that as its platform. This name has been one I’ve liked, but not really fallen in love with.
Chicago Butchers: Frankly I’m not the most knowledgeable on this topic. I used @Jiggly_333’s advice on team names in order to get this one, and when he first told me the name I really liked it and thought I might use it. I’ve not got much info on Chicago stuff in general so I’m not the best person to ask about it.
I have to add, the poll will not be the sole determining factor in my team, in fact I might decide it before the poll has any meaningful votes. I’m simply using it as a way to gauge interaction between the names and the public, since I know there may be some jokes that come from it (like Pedigree dog food jokes).
As for a co-GM I don’t have one yet, still waiting on more applications, I’ve had a few so far but seeing as there is a rule in place that means I can’t pick DSFL guys yet it will be open for a bit unless a candidate appears that is the best candidate for the team.
