Here we are again, after a long, but needed break. The season end was really hurtful. It started well, but it crashed and burned in the end. And I know I owe you guys the recap of the last 8 weeks for Norfolk and Yellowknife. But expect this in the next volume, within the next 2-3 days. The NSFL draft happened not many days ago, and I would like to touch on it first. Grab a drink, grab a snack, sit tight, and let's get started!
Round 1
1 Sam Torenson - RB - @Jonny2x
I was a bit surprised with this pick, considering Lavelle Jr. is part of the draft class, but I can see rationale behind this pick. One, it was Dermot's ridiculous demands. I will touch on them later on, don't worry. Also, Chicago really needed some offence. They grabbed some RBs in the expansion draft, but Torenson has potential. Don't be fooled by his DSFL stats. They don't mean much in the big league. But that guy has potential. He is also young, and Chicago can build on him. They got some good receivers around him, and a decent QB. I doubt he will be sent down.
2 Blake Faux - LB - @AlexF
Another amazing pick for the Butchers, solidifying their already decent defence even more. Not many things to touch on here. Blake can both get to the QB and protect the backfield. He had a respectable amount of sacks and pass deflections. Another solid pick for the Butchers
3 Lazslo Fourty-Two - WR - @C9Van
Colorado just got the best available. Still surprised Dermot Jr. was not picked here, but I can understand why. The Yeti need whatever they can get if they want to get into winning ways and contend. Solid pick, much potential. Keep an eye on 42.
4 via Dermot Lavelle Jr. - CB - @White Cornerback
Ah. Dermot Jr. He had the potential to be #1 overall. But Chicago didn't really need him. Colorado could get him, but his demands were ridiculous. A starting job? Only yearly contracts? Ring chasing???? Dude, you haven't even been in the league. Don't let your father's success get to you. You have proven nothing to have the audacity to ask for ridiculous stuff like that. Get in there and prove what you are worth. You are entitled to nothing. You get what you are worth by showing what you are worth. Geez!
5 via Peter Larson - QB - @Tomasnz
This pick was bewildering at first, but Larson will position change to TE. Austin got a TE in Chase Jensen, but Larson looks like he can complement him perfectly. The 2 TE scheme will look like a strong weapon in the Copperheads' arsenal in the upcoming season.
6 Chad Maulolo - DE - @Graciejj2000
The Wraiths have one thing in mind. Getting an Ultimus win. And how do you do that? Defense! Especially when your offense is in good hands. Cooter Bigsby is a QB of the future. It explains a DE pick. Solidifies the front 6-7, depending if you play nickel or not. Pair him with Sack LA, the DE-DT duo of Leaf and Alexander, and you create a nightmare for opposing OL and QBs. Solid pick, kind of a sleeper. Best available at that pick, and exactly what Yellowknife needed.
7 Alberto McGwire - DT - @kentuckycolonel
He was my teammate in Norfolk this season. Solid player, and an amazing guy as well. He can fit in the locker room perfectly. And he is coachable. Nice pick here from Philly.
8 via Mako Mendonca - RB - @Mooty99
With a decent 2 TE scheme, what do you lack? A decent RB. Mako Mendonca can fill that role for Austin, as they start their NSFL journey. I don't expect the team to be a contender right out of the gate, but Mendonca will have a decent career.
9 William Tell - CB - @scharlachrot
I don't know much about this guy, but you can never go wrong with DBs. And for a team that lost 49-0 in the most recent Ultimus, you need defence. From the glimpses I got, he looks like a solid addition to the #1 ranked defence last season.
10 Joshua Palmer - TE - @`Jackets28`
The Yeti have been bad for long. You just get the best player available here and hope for the best. Palmer has potential, but the Yeti still need a ton of players to be able to contend. I also doubt Palmer will stay with the Yeti after his Rookie contract is over. Unless he is the force to awaken the sleeping beast nobody has seen the Yeti as.
Round 2
11 Ben Tu'inukuafe - OL - @Ben
Decent OL are rare to find, and if you are the Butchers, having decent players in all positions, you grab one if available. There were players they could get, like Rowland and Sandoval Jr., but a good OL can protect your QB. And they get just that from Tu'inukuafe.
12 via Anthony Rowland - CB - @ARJ04
Same with William Tell. Getting a DB is always the right thing to do. Especially with the shakeup the expansion and the expansion draft have caused in the league. Let's home he produces on the field.
13 via ForThe Brand - K/P - @Renrut
Decent kicker, not impressive, but he does what you want him to do. Strong leg, can hit long FGs, a useful addition to the already stacked Baltimore roster. But the Hawks still need a QB after Gambino retired.
14 via Wolfie McDummy - QB - @infinitempg
GM pick. Not much to say here. Let's hope the curse of McPickSix is dispelled.
15 via Antonio Sandoval Jr. - DE - @TheMemeMaestro
Same with every Yeti pick, just get the best available. Sandoval was effective in rushing the QB. He only had 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble, but the mere presence of a 250-260 pound guy running full speed towards them, can throw any QB off and alter his plans. Solid pick, this may be the pick that brings Yeti back to the top.
16 via via Chance Matthews - S - @DaftRaincloud
17 DeMarcus Strike - TE - @OwlStrike13
Keeping the "Best player available" theme alive, Philly gets a TE in DeMarcus Strike. DeMarcus had an ok season, enabling Dorfus Jimbo to rush for 2082 yards, thanks to his amazing blocking skills. A 6th lineman is always welcome when you can get one.
18 Hugh Mongo - WR - @speculadora
Another GM pick here, but you can't go wrong with WRs and DBs.
19 via Easton Cole - QB - @JKortesi81
GM pick for you, for you, everyone gets a GM pick. The Copperheads needed a QB, and they found him in Easton Cole. He can be their cornerstone for seasons to come.
20 via Jaylen Storm - S - @Daybe.
Ahhh, the Wraiths and their Safeties. This is a GM pick as well, but you can never go wrong with a safety. Even if you are stacked. Safeties are so versatile they can even play as CB or LB. Solid pick
for Yellowknife. Don't sleep on them.
The picks below are players who will be sent down for another season, or even two, so I won't waste any time on them. I just list them for the sake of completion of the article. There IS potential in all of them, but they need to work more if they want to make the big league. If you are one of them, don't be discouraged. Just get in the gym and the field, and work, work, work. There is a shot for everyone in this league. You just have to create your own chances!
Round 3
21 PASS
22 PASS
23 Judas Iscariot - TE - @Judas_Iscariot
24 via Maxim Booth - S - @DrCiber
25 Bobby Melvin - OL - @Big Mac
26 Bo Hall - DE - @Jobu22
27 via hakuna matata- DE - @superwoman0688
28 Evan Trigg - DE - @greygoosevodka
29 via Jeremy Stovall - CB - @Stovy4x4ing
30 Lars Fredricksen - S - @Upton0goode13
Round 4
31 PASS
32 PASS
33 Blaster Blade Jr. - LB - @Blaster
However, I want to touch on the passes from Austin and Chicago. I see them as perfectly justified. I mean, they got players from the S15 draft, the expansion draft AND this season's draft. And the S15 class was HUGE. They got more than enough players on their roster. And with the dissolution of Norfolk (sad fleet noises) and Palm Beach (at least they go out as champs), the competition in the DSFL rosters looks like being fiercer now. Especially with this DSFL class being kinda big.
Thank you for reading this, see you on the next one. It's going to be long as well. And it's going to kill me inside, but it is what it is. The next season is coming, in a better environment, with a better GM and a better gameplan. Let's just hope we don't remain contenders on paper. We gotta go and get it!
Love you all! Peace!
