I'm pretty new here, so I'll just give my opinion on what I've seen so far and what I've liked and maybe didn't like. I think the creation was quite simple and well laid out. I like the ability to choose arch types, I'm not sure how it'll play out but I like that it gives you some variety. The discord community was very helpful and easy to talk to. One thing I might change that I noticed so far, is the banking system. The SHL has a really cool new bank, where each player has their own page and you make all of your purchases there. It's just easier than an excel spread sheet and a transaction page. Not quite as in depth as the VHL system but it's a nice combo of both. Part of me wishes there were sims on the weekends as well, I was disappointed to find that I wouldn't get to see my player until Tuesday, I understand that the simmers have lives and maybe that's their schedule, but it's just too bad that the weekend (which is usually a busy time on sim leagues) is a bit slow around here in terms of sims! Love the league though, keep it up!
If I could change something in the NSFL I would change the sim engine. One of the ways I would change the engine is that I would fix how tackling appears to viewers. For example, I've seen players in the sim on top of each other yet the ball carrier does not go down. This goes for passing as well. The quarterbacks in the sim will pass to a player who is being covered very heavily and they will catch the ball but when a receiver is wide open they might not get passed to. While we are on the topic of passing I would change how plays looks in the sim. It would be nice if the sim called an out route and the players ran an out. As of right now it does not seem that they are running any specific route at all. It would make it more realistic combined with when a receiver is open they get passed to. Another thing that could be fixed is the emphasis on speed in the sim. Speed is everything when it comes to running backs and wide receivers. In real life catching is much more important than it is in the sim. Finally, I wish that quarterbacks would run the ball. People who make mobile quarterbacks have a high chance of not running at all although they are very fast. These are just a couple of the things that could be changed and it would go a long way.
I like this league a lot and how we do things but if I had to pick one thing to change that would be the weekly point tasks. I feel like not a lot of people enjoy doing them and not a lot of people actually go through and read them. I could be very very wrong with that assumption but I know I don't enjoy them, therefore I am going to keep assuming that my previous statement is true just for the sake of my argument. As I recently mentioned on Twitter, I lost my interest in the DSFL after my beloved team was taken over by our bot overlords. So my idea is to replace the weekly point tasks(not trivia or ultimus week) with weekly predictions, season predictions and mock draft for the DSFL! Hell maybe even run fantasy for DSFL. These tasks don't have to give as much TPE or Money as the NSFL ones, just enough to cover the TPE lost from the weekly point tasks would be enough. I think these tasks would increase our engagement as a community with the DSFL, making it easier for us to meet the new guys and watch the DSFL games with more enthusiasm. I also think that this change would lower the load of the progression team since grading predictions is easier then grading point tasks, but would increase the load of the fantasy team. Overall I think this change would be great for the league, even if we can't make the fantasy football happen for the DSFL.
I have not been in this league long, but I think something that would be cool to add is relegations. With there not being a lot of teams in the league, it could add some mixture to who plays who. The only problem (one problem that encompasses a whole lot of problems in itself) that comes with this idea is how to format it. How many NSFL teams get relegated, how do you decide relegations, which team goes to what division, etc. There are many small problems, but I think once it gets figured out it could lead to more exciting seasons. On a rough starting point, and considering team numbers are small, I would simply have the top DSFL teams from each season play the worst NSFL team of each division. Another consideration would be if a DSFL player is joining the draft and his team is moved up into NSFL where does he stand? Can he opt of out draft once he declares? Can his team place some sort of tag on him? There are multiple things to consider. I believe adding relegations to the league is something that would take a while to figure. The effort could pay off tremendously though as it evolves through the years.
The NSFL is a pretty well run league. Like every other league ever, there are the occasional "what are they thinking" decision, but it is what is it. Most issues are unchageable sim mechanic-- Well not changeable without a computer programmer at least. If EA would make a sim engine based loosely off Madden player attributes and ratings, it would be nice. But for now, we are stuck in the 2 attributes sim league. For the sake of writing 200 words, I need to come up with some long winded suggestion. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything constructive to say.
Maybe the league could host an offseason graphics competition. The top graphics makers would compete for bonus money. Might as well give infintempg another opportunity to pad his massive bank account. Turns out, I couldn't come up with as many words about this competition as I had thought. I guess that comes from not particularly caring about the idea. So I guess I had better come up with another idea to spew words about. All day long, just hitting word counts. It really kinda gets old to be quite honest. So one more suggestion huh? Well, I think the league should add... Ok word count hit.
If I had to change one thing about the way this league operates, I would change the way that switching positions works. I think the concept of being able to freely move most TPE around when you change position is great in theory, but it does not read as true to life. If the league required people to keep their previously assigned TPE where it was originally assigned (perhaps with an exception for TPE which puts a player over their maximum in a given trait), it would probably make players consider their starting position more carefully, and would certainly make them think hard before jumping to a wildly different position. Basically, we'd see more reasonable position changes (wide receiver to tight end, defensive end to linebacker, wide receiver to corner, to name a few), and less wildly unjustified jumps (quarterback to defensive tackle, tight end to running back, corner back to defensive end, for examples on this end). This would also make the handful of unusual jumps that we would see (they would be few and far between, but I imagine we would still see them) have interesting consequences, and would make for some interesting careers to follow. Imagine, for instance, watching a player who originally created a defensive tackle try to make the switch to wide receiver, knowing all too well that upgrading his hands trait is a major uphill battle, and silently cursing the amount of TPE he poured into strength.
This idea becomes more plausible if we still have a means of encouraging the occasional weird jump; perhaps, for instance, a bonus for media articles tracking the player?
I am going to expand upon aaronito’s idea of implementing a relegation system for the league and possible way that would look.
First step is actually decrease the size of the NSFL back down to 8 teams and expand the DSFL to 8 teams. 2 of the 8 DSFL teams would remain bots as preemptive preparation for unexpectedly large class sizes like that of S15. Each NSFL Conference would be tied up with one of the DSFL Conferences. For the example let us affiliate the NSFC to the SFC and the ASFC to the NFC. Additionally let’s presume that the league loves the relegation idea and wants to implement it for the start of S17. I would auto move the Yeti and the Copperheads down from their NSFL conferences to their affiliated DSFL conferences. Moving forward after the initial season, at the end of each season the Best Regular Season Team from the SFC, would play a home game vs the last place team in the NSFC. The loser is relegated to the SFC and the winner is promoted to the NSFC for the next season (S18). The same would occur with the teams in the NFC and ASFC. Of course you are now asking how would drafts work now that teams are moving up from the DSFL to NSFL and visa versa. My proposal is that we move to a single draft system. Of course now you say that most draft classes don’t have enough players to support a 14 team draft. My solution is that only the teams relegated in the DSFL get to draft new players. Of course you say "that opened up a whole new can of worms, specifically draft capital, ie trading future picks for players." I propose that teams can only sign players obtained through the draft to a 2 year max contract. In the current system new players are already tied to a DSFL team for one year, allowing those teams to sign drafted players to a 2 year contract gives the DSFL teams opportunity to build momentum to earn promotion. However, since the contracts are only a 2 year max, if said team is unable to gain promotion, the teams promoted in the NSFL have a huge bargaining chip to use for signing free agents - “Don’t wait for promotion, we are already promoted”. Oh now you want to know if picks can still be traded. I say sure. The team that earns promotion gives their future draft picks to the team that is relegated in the affiliated conference, since only teams in the DSFL get to draft players. You’re concerned that DSFL teams will trade away all future draft picks screwing over the next team that gets relegated. That can already happen, ie Colorado, but there are current rules in place to help prevent that from happening, the LVL trade rules. Additionally, a DSFL team wouldn’t want to trade away all of their future picks, because then they screwed themselves if they don’t earn promotion within 2 season because of the 2 year max on draft contracts. I am sure there are other potential problems, but I am already way past 200 words. If anyone (other players, GMs, HO) wants to further flesh out this idea, I'd be happy to be apart of that process.
There is one thing I would definitely change about this league and I'm sure a handful of people have talked about it in this thread and will talk about it after this post and that is some kind of management system for the players. I agree and it isn't quite as simple as one would think. The problem? Well the problem is we're on jcink and there's no way to tie into the database from the outside and that is why leagues like SHL/VHL/SBA/etc have moved away from jcink. Fortunately for everyone I along with input for 37thchamber figured out how to move us off of jcink a little while back and in such I started the process of getting us a management system. The coding for it has been started and a good chunk has been completed. Then I ended up getting a new job about a month ago, but needed a fast transition so I didn't move alot of my stuff with me, including my desktop so production on that system stopped......that is until now. I went a picked up a new laptop and have installed everything I need and did the full conversion last night. So yeah I'm going to finish out the immediately needed features and get a working prototype at least setup in a demo able manner and then one of the things I think we need most (at least from a user standpoint) has the chance at becoming a reality.

I enjoy the New Orleans Second Line, but if I had a chance to relocate a team, I’d pick up New Orleans and we’d head to Carolina. Location is an important consideration for a football team. Charlotte is a fine city to host a football team, but I think Raleigh would do well, too. Raleigh area is growing rapidly. Now that location is settled, we need a good name for the team. We would adopt the name Carolina Reapers. Sometimes people refer to the Carolina Reaper as the (or one of the) hottest peppers in the world. Additionally, we could play on imagery from either Overwatch’s reaper, the grim reaper, or just make the mascot a pepper with arms and a football helmet. The color scheme for Carolina would be black and red. This move would revitalize the south’s’ football layout. The Reapers would enjoy a market that is dying for a football team. The Carolina Reapers would make a fine addition as an expansion team too if the league was ready. That way New Orleans wouldn’t necessarily have to be uprooted and taken away from the loyal fans in New Orleans. And too reiterate, I love New Orleans, but Carolina is calling for a team too.
