Three way Mock Draft!
Coming this weekend is Positional Rankings and shout out to players drafted in the mid rounds!
I will be going through a first round mock draft with three different scenarios! So this could get confusing! The three time lines are: What I think the team will do, If there was a trade what would happen and What I would do.
*Everyone could use defensive line so I’m not going to repeat it unless it needs to be said.
What I think the team will do with no trades
Pick one:
NOLA Second Line – DT Bjorn Ironside (IsaStarcrossed) – Undisputed number 1 overall pick. Like seriously, if Hemmingway, Andrew Luck, Khalil Mack and Vincent Wilfork all had a baby prospect Bjorn would be the outcome.
Pick two:
Philadelphia Liberty – DE Zach Hall (Hallmonitor_20) – The liberty are looking to select an anchor for their team. It just so happens that defensive line and the team fit align with the personality. SLM and co are grabbing an innovative player/GM (did you see how many wins PB had when he took over!) and great locker room presence. Liberty are building towards the future and looking for their next predecessor.
Pick three:
Orange County Otters – LB Maurice Virtanen (BaconBrother) – Many people have mocked the otters taking secondary or trading out of this pick here. The reigning Ultimus Champions have a young offense ready to peak together and an aging defensive line and secondary situation. It does not make much sense to trade out of the first as they are in a spot to shore up their older positions while still in a window of contention. Maurice Virtanen has been a steady presence in the discord and is leading the way in TPE. Even though linebacker isn’t their biggest need but grabbing a stable player such as Maurice or Thudd will cover the whole in linebacker coming up while allowing them to grab positions of need later from deep position groups or a drop of in tiers. A recent personnel change of a defensive tackle to corner (I don’t know what type of diet that guy was on or how he lost height…) could see Maurice slide to defensive end and play out of position in certain formations.
Pick four:
Colorado Yeti – WR Tyrone Biggums (Revolution5) – If Zach Hall falls this far then need meets availability as the Yeti only have one active defensive lineman in Bubba Thumper. After defensive line the Yeti could use help in the secondary and in the near future wide receiver. Biggums fill the latter need but to speak of the former he dabbled in cornerback throughout college so may be asked to try out the defensive side of the ball. As well, who wouldn’t select a player that is a part of the Points Task Team, back up Updater and newly co-GM of the Marshals. Conversely, Tyrone Biggums stock is dropping fast as apparently middle aged people shouldn’t be in sim leagues. So we will see who tries to catch this falling knife.
Pick five:
San Jose SaberCats – LB/S Thudd Castle (Dylan Deluxe) – The SaberCats have many holes and Thudd will fill one in the immediate future as regression is going to hit Deringer and Pennington hard. While waiting to start at linebacker Thudd can fill in at safety while Staley or Tuck can slide into corner. Thudd is exactly what this team needs in the locker room and on the field.
Pick six:
New Orleans Second Line – S Pete Parker (jsteele14) – The Secondline have needs at the wide receiver position and secondary. Rumblings of a soon to be allstar safety coming to town quells the need to reach here but grabbing a safety would not hurt as the corners currently filling in for the role are regressing. Depending on team interviews Korrin Abernathy, Louisiana Purchase or WR Bender Rodgriguez could be taken here.
Pick Seven:
Yellowknife Wraiths – RB Marcella Toriki (Bex) – With the surprise retirement of Morgan Marshal and Jerrod Canton running back is an immediate need. Marcella exceeds that need with a large present in the discord and recent joining of the fascist regime. These qualities make this a glove and hand pick. Ruff Ruff could be the pick here however Bex’s involvement with the league gives her a big step up.
Pick Eight:
Arizona Outlaws – CB Louisiana Purchase (Modern_Duke) - I can see Arizona trading back to fill the third round pick they are missing or to help with cap space next season if they don’t move any one than package up a couple picks to either move up to secure a player they love or catch a falling player in the second that they have a first round grade on. If they stay put than secondary fits with regression that is coming. Purchase can fill all secondary roles while providing a great locker room presence.
Pick Nine:
Orange County Otters –RB Ruff Ruff (Shadowz) – Apollo Reed was a do it player for the otters. To help keep him fresh and bolster the offense Ruff Ruff with his capability to catch the ball would help out this offense. It is a possibility the Otters trade out of this pick for cap space and or a proven player. Corey Trevor was recently traded for a millionth round pick so the logic they picked up an RB in the draft is high.
Pick 10:
Austin Copperheads – CB Korrin Abernathy (VRTX L4S3ER) He’s my teams updater! On top of that he fills a need for the copperheads as a third corner and to take over for Spencer castle when he regresses. Xavien Adams or Fabricio Baldari could also go here. Defensive line help is always appreciated.
If there were trades:
Pick one:
NOLA Second Line – DT Bjorn Ironside (IsaStarcrossed) - The only way they trade out of this is if is a kings random. I’m talking multiple high picks plus a young player. I don’t think any teams will do that but you never know who may be drinking during the draft.
Pick two:
Philadelphia Liberty management could throw that out the window and be in the rebuild for the long haul and trade out of this pick. As a known way to rebuild a team is to throw a bunch of darts at the board and see what sticks. If they can trade back approximately eight to twelve spots while picking up extra draft capital that might be the play here. That way they can grab one of the other top defensive line players in the second while adding youth to their aging or IA locker room.
Pick three:
Otters - I don’t think the butchers have enough capital to move this far up however they do have a big need for a linebacker. I’m no NSFL GM but if the butchers GM’s are creative and can work something out this would be a great fit.
Pick four:
I peg the Yeti as being a trade down candidate as they are not in immediate contention and have multiple starting spots yet to fill. If a team offered a Season 18 2nd, 4th and Season 20 2nd I think they jump on it. Again, a linebacker needy team I could see jump up here.
Pick five:
Any trade that nets San Jose three extra players in the top three rounds or includes a first in future years in the three picks would be the price. Again see Baltimore or Butchers for linebacker help.
Pick six:
If there were trades I don’t see Second Line shopping this pick. Someone would have to come a knocking. They have a solid core built and they get to add to this young core with a player of their choosing. There is a possibility that they want to consolidate talent and move into the top five which shouldn’t cost too much.
Pick Seven:
Yellowknife Wraiths – After the retirement of both their running backs a huge hole opened up. I don’t see the Wraiths trading out and taking either Bex, Ruff Ruff or Hanyadi. By the time their picks come around again, they could all be gone.
Pick Eight:
Arizona Outlaws – I don’t see the outlaws trading back here. Same dilemma as the Wraiths. They need a running back and the might not get one on their next pick
Pick Nine:
Orange County Otters – After trading away their third overall pick the otters would stay put and draft someone in the secondary or defensive line. A player in one of those areas would probably have been involved in their trade so this pick would supplement the hole that is left.
Pick 10:
Austin Copperheads – I see them staying put and grabbing the last of the triple threat players: league room presence, high TPE and league job holders or seeker.
What I would do
Pick one:
NOLA Second Line The only way I’d trade Bjorn is if I could get three first from OCO and a couple beneficial IA’s for the team. Two firsts would have to be this year and one for the next big draft class. That still may not do it. You don’t just trade away a locker room presence, media god, overall nice guy that would kill it in the GM game if he ever decides to join. Pick – Bjorn.
Pick two:
Philadelphia Liberty I would try and hold a certain red NSFL team over a barrel as I think there is mutual interest between player and red team. See if they create an illusion of a bidding war for one of the few defensive line prospects that is great for the locker room that every team has a need for. Trade away for the other team to select – Zach Hall.
Pick three:
Orange County Otters I would try my damnedest to trade with a linebacker needy team with Thudd and Virtanen on the board. Unfortunately, with there still being two left on the board and SaberCats needing more picks to help their rebuild and the Yeti not needing a linebacker the otters leverage is lowered. I’m going to take the easy way out here as I’m teammates with these players. I suggest the otters choose Pete Parker, Louisiana Purchase or Tyrone Biggums (wide receiver that could be tried in the secondary). Depending on how the interviews went the Otters would get a great locker room presence with steady TPE potential in any of these players. For the sake of the mock lets go with - Tyrone Biggums because who doesn’t want to mock themselves high?!?
Pick four:
Colorado Yeti I’d quietly shop the pick. If there were no takers I’d grab either Marcella Toriki – great locker room presence, league advocate and overall workhorse at the running back position or the left overs of Pete Parker/Louisiana Purchase. All three players fill a position of need while adding to the locker room but for what would I do - Marcella Toriki!
Pick five:
San Jose SaberCats I would take Thudd Castle. Even though you are only getting one player and not trading for multiple players he should attract players and keep players on the team if he so chooses to resign after his rookie contract. Thudd makes the general chat lively, he’s recruited a great persona to the league already thus selecting him here would accomplish similar results than trading for multiple player or picks will. – Thudd Castle
Pick six:
New Orleans Second Line If there were trades I don’t see Second Line shopping this pick. Someone would have to come a knocking. They have a solid core built and they get to add to this young core with a player of their choosing. I would trade to the team that wanted - Maurice as he’s still available in this scenario of my mock!
Pick Seven:
Yellowknife Wraiths Since Toriki went early in what would I do and the recent decision to hit free agency by Daybe a need at corner arises. – Louisiana Purchase
Pick Eight:
Arizona Outlaws – Need meets opportunity as Bucky Barnes is in regression. I would take Pete Parker here and run to the bank!
Pick Nine:
Orange County Otters – As there is now a bigger hole in the defensive line after the position swap I would select Mike Franchet here. A spike in locker room banter and overall league engagement is guaranteed with this pick. The lower TPE is offset with the league room boost!
Pick 10:
Austin Copperheads Similar as if there were no trades I would do what I think Austin does in this situation and selects Korrin Abernathy CB. It’s a team need that supplies a great locker room presence.
Two teams that don’t have a first round pick
Baltimore Hawks - – The hawks don’t have a pick till round three. I can see them shifting some assets to move up at least a round as they hold three round threes, a fifth and a seventh. It would be smart to gain a shot in the fourth as well where a player with potential might be lurking in this deep class. With a need at linebacker, corner after newly departed PDX and somewhat running back a few shots can be taken with there picks. Marlo Smart linebacker might drop to the early third, Junior Lopez and Matt Ammons would be solid later picks to fill that need. Paco McTaco and Charles Allen could be steals late for them as there mild activity will give them the running back production they need to be successful in the NSFL.
Chicago Butchers - The butchers have one second, fourth, fifth, two sixths and a seventh. To try and fill needs of wide receiver and cornerback. They won’t have a shot at an impact wide receiver as the position is top heavy with three prospects and should be gone by the time they pick. Juan Marston would be a bargain to get in the third or fourth round if they manage to distribute some assets to get more picks in the middle round. Howard Ryan and Zach Bailey would be great adds when the run on actives is dwindling. Howard would bring a great locker room presence and Bailey would be a shot to come back to being active.
Trade partners for the Hawks and Butchers – The second line have two firsts and two thirds while having the rest of their picks which means they can afford to package some up to move up a round or upgrade a player. Philadelphia Liberty have two thirds, three fourths, two sixths and the rest of their picks. They really can move around the board and upgrade certain players to help build for their future. Lastly, the Colorado Yeti have two thirds and three fifths. Either of these teams would be candidates to collect draft capital from.
