Running back by committee has a negative connotation for fantasy heads, but when an offense has multiple reliable backs to hand the ball off to it can keep fresh legs on the field and the offense unstoppable deep in the game. One team taking great advantage of having a stable of backs is the Minnesota Grey Ducks.
The squad is headlined by Baby Yoda, a rookie who through 6 games has already racked up 544 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quick and very capable of contributing in the passing game, Yoda is exactly the sort of back a team can feel comfortable with having on the field in almost any situation. His strength keeps him out of goal line situations, but otherwise it's a rare sight to see a fresh Yoda on the sideline.
Second in the pecking order is Austin Brehio, another rookie who is a shifty speedster. Brehio has put up 422 yards and an impressive 6 touchdowns in 6 games. The team seems to trust Brehio to step in for Yoda any time some relief is needed, and he has not disappointing.
Newcomer Rick Skuff has vaulted to third on the depth chart, accumulating 137 yards and 2 touchdowns in just four games. The bruising back out of Davidson has primarily seen short yardage work, although trainers say they have noticed him responding well to speed training. He will probably need to work on blocking and his hands to really push for every down back status, but he is already contributing to the offense in a big way as the strongest back on the team.
Rounding out the quarto is Luke McMaster, a quick rookie out of WVU. With 160 yards through 6 games he has seen meaningful work, although Skuff seems to have cut into his playing time since his arrival. Having a talented back in the fourth slot allows the team to keep the running game fresh over the course of the game and season, so he is a valuable part of the team.
Overall the Four Ducksmen have led the Grey Ducks to a 5-1 record, with the second most rushing yards in the league at 1249, and a league leading 11 ground scores. The rushing attack shows no signs of letting up, with the staff happy to pound the ball until a team shows they can stop it. Particularly when the team is able to jump out to an early lead, trying to come back against a team as adept as the Ducks can feel like trying to climb out of a pit of quicksand. It remains to be seen if they can ride the rushing attack to the Ultimini, but they are sure to be a tough task for anyone to game plan against.
