Hello NSFL! Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Yellowknife Wraiths Spooky Award. Inspired by the Death Valley Scorpions and San Antonio Sloths in the PBE, members of the team voted for which of their teammates they wanted to recognize for a variety of awards on and off the field. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote - without further ado, here are your winners:
Offensive Player of the Year
Mathias Hanyadi @CLG Rampage
Hanyadi unanimously won the OPotY award following a stellar season that saw him rack up over 1500 total yards from scrimmage and lead all non-QBs in touchdowns en route to league RBotY and OPotY honors. It was an easy choice for our voters, as the passing game slowed down a bit in comparison to previous seasons.
Defensive Player of the Year
Lightsout Lewis @flyeaglesfly29
Also receiving votes:
Danny Grithead @Trautner
Maurice Virtanen @`BaconBrother`
In his final season before retirement, Lewis moved to his traditional safety spot after spending the previous few seasons as the team's NB. He earned Pro Bowl honors after leading all defensive backs with 9 sacks along with 2 interceptions (including a pick-six).
Grithead continued his stalwart play at the SLB position with 11 sacks, 2 TFL, and an INT.
Virtanen led the defense with 99 tackles from the MLB spot in his first season in his natural position after playing on the defensive line.
Team MVP
Mathias Hanyadi
Also receiving votes:
Cooter Bigsby @timeconsumer
Once again, Hanyadi was recognized for his role in driving the team's offense to the league's best. Cooter's volume dipped compared to previous seasons, but he nonetheless continued to play a big role in the team's success.
Most Improved Player
Tie - Mathias Hanyadi and Rayne Gordon @RainDelay
Also receiving votes:
Mervin Leonard @hihihi_62
Orien Drake @Rublic
While there were many high performers on the team this year, most of them had been balling before this season as well. Hanyadi increased his offensive output by 300 yards, going from 10th in the league in rushing yards to 3rd.
Gordon's first year of NSFL action resulted in a very respectable 700 yards and a nomination for ORotY. After a stellar DSFL career that included a dominant 1200 yard S19, Gordon more than proved his capability at the pro level.
Leonard had a phenomenal Pro Bowl year with 4 interceptions and 18 pass deflections. While he certainly improved his skills over the past year, we can't forget his S19 in which he also racked up 4 INTs to go with 21 PDs.
Drake had an excellent season as part of a committee with Hanyadi, racking up 1100 yards and 11 TDs. Interestingly, his S20 yardage total was actually about 40 yards below his S19 production, although he increased his scoring by nearly 50%.
Rookie of the Year
Rayne Gordon
We wanted to get this award in the rotation for future seasons, although this year Gordon was the only rookie on the roster. As mentioned above, he had a very promising start to his career in black and blue and with the retirement of Tommy Helanen and aging of Nate Swift, should only see his stock rise from here.
Performance of the Year
Danny Grithead - Week 6
Also receiving votes:
Orien Drake - Week 12
Lightsout Lewis - Week 2
Cooter Bigsby - Week 10
Nate Swift - Week 3 @Bigred1580
This was a hotly contested category, with many players putting up games worthy of recognition. Grithead won the vote with a vintage performance against Arizona in week 6, reminding everyone of his S16 MVP season with 8 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception. With his versatility and ability to make plays in multiple aspects of the game, he made life miserable for Jay Cue in one of the finest defensive performances by any player this season.
Drake got his day in the spotlight against New Orleans in week 12, out-gaining Hanyadi with 22 carries for 97 yards and leading the team with 8 catches. He led the team to victory as he reached the end zone 3 times, the most by any Wraiths player in a game this season.
In week 2, Lewis sealed the victory over Austin with a pick-6 of Easton Cole to put the Wraiths up by two scores with 5:45 remaining. He finished the game with a sack and a PD in addition to the interception TD.
Cooter had one of his best games of the season in the huge victory over Baltimore in week 10, throwing for 323 yards and 3 scores with a pick and recording his highest QB rating of the S20 campaign.
Swift's showing in week 3's close win over Chicago was the best performance by a Wraiths pass-catcher this season, catching 6 balls for 118 yards and a TD.
Playoff MVP
Johnny Snuggles @manicmav36
Also receiving votes:
Cooter Bigsby
Tommy Helanen @StamkosFan
Snuggles earned his playoff recognition with a huge showing against Colorado in the NSFC championship game, setting the tone for the game with an interception return TD on the third play of the game. He finished the game with 5 tackles and 3 PDs in addition to the pick.
Although Cooter struggled (along with the rest of the team) in the Ultimus, he put up great numbers in the playoffs to that point. He threw for 349 yards and 2 TDs against the Yeti, but the real gem was his 5 touchdown game that didn't actually happen against Philadelphia in the first round.
In the final game before he was found dead, Helanen caught 5 passes for 115 yards and a TD against the Yeti. Amazingly, his reanimated corpse also had 4 receptions for 86 yards in the Ultimus game.
Future NSFL MVP
Mathias Hanyadi
Also receiving votes:
Rayne Gordon
Maurice Virtanen
With an OPotY under his belt, the next step for Hanyadi is an MVP award (which he was nominated for this season). Gordon looks like one of the league's brightest future stars out wide, and Virtanen has the skill to put up Grithead- or Berry-like numbers from the SLB slot moving forward.

Shady's a bum so let's skip him.
All of these guys showed huge commitment this season, not only to the team but to the league as a whole. Fly took on the job of Head Updater, which is no small feat (especially with the huge classes incoming). Bigred, finally free of his GM responsibilities, moved up to Head Office. Manic won the league's MDM trophy for his work as HO and emergency simmer, and TC is always around for sage advice (sim-related or otherwise) when you need it. I'm so proud to have each of these members on our team!

The fact that this is so contested and yet it feels like several great candidates were left out is a testament to the great group we have on the team. Even if your name isn't on this list, I'm so happy for the contributions that each and every player makes to the team. After all, while on-field success is nice, the truly great thing about being a Wraith is getting to hang out with these awesome people.
Murtsi is one of the most consistently positive people in this league, and he's made our locker room a joy to be a part of. He's always asking others how they're doing and making everyone feel good regardless of what happens in the sim. Y'all fucked up by letting him drop to 7. RD came into the LR in full force this season, bringing some amazing graphics and being one of the best hype men on the team. Y'all also fucked up by letting him drop to 7. Everyone knows and loves BR, one of the most genuinely caring people in the league who makes the locker room a welcoming place for everyone new and old. TC is a crotchety old man, but he's our crotchety old man. Even though he's a little quieter than he used to be now that he's making $$$ off of WoW, we can always count on him to pop in with some great humor, football knowledge, or home improvement advice.

Murtsi earns a runaway victory here with his consistently adorable photos of his lil fluffball Elli. Sometimes he goes above and beyond with videos of her doing tricks, like high-fiving or playing dead. She's the best and I would die for her.
And we can't forget about Hydra and his amazing boi Rizzo. Rizzo is always hyped for fobl and gets the whole team excited for games!
Editors note: can't forget the other amazing doggos on this team. Honorable mention to Bigred and Herbie, as well as TC and Goose. Also TC's fish. And I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.
So there you have it! The S20 edition of the Yellowknife Spooky Awards. Thanks to everyone who voted, and even more to everyone who made it a blast to be a part of this team. Y'all are why I'm in this league and why I'm GMing. Here's to an even better S21 #ChangeTheEnding
