(S21) - PT4 - Ultimus Dreamin’

The playoffs are here and Reginald Covington III is very excited to join the Portland Pythons on their playoff run against the Kansas City Coyotes. Although he hasn’t been able to see the field, just being around the locker room and O’Donnell has been an awesome experience and RC3 is learning a lot from the DSFL coaches. The Pythons are in a good spot to beat the Coyotes in the playoffs having split the season series 1-1. The team will be on the road in Kansas City, but their loss against them was a close 20-14. RC3 may be a factor in this game and might have a chance to help out the team if they need him to. The Pythons defense has improved since their loss against the Coyotes and they have a real shot at locking them down this time with the league best defense and 2nd best passing defense. The Coyotes do boast the league’s top offense, but the Pythons have strong development from many of their players on the defensive side of the ball. It’ll be a tough contest, but I believe the Pythons have a great shot at upsetting the Coyotes to move into the Ultimini game.

The Norfolk Seawolves came into week 15 and 16 at 0.500 just hoping to make the Ultimini. We laid a smackdown on the Buccaneers in Week 15 which put us in a position to possibly snatch the first seed. However, even though we secured a win in Week 16 against the Birddogs, the Bucs still beat the Luchadors. We feel confident that we belong here in the playoffs and have a great shot at the Ultimini. On top of having the best point differential in the league, we have a super tight knit group in the clubhouse.
I’d say one of our biggest strengths is our run game. The 1-2 punch of Panda and Sunrise is deadly because no team would want to see a 250 pound Panda or an extremely hot and drunk Tequila Sunrise coming at them. Another strength is our clubhouse’s ability to hold long counting sessions in one of our channels which really shows off our synergy as a team.
I will tip my hat to Bucs who we face in the first round. They are a solid team and it’s going to be a tough game. However, I think our grit and overall synergy will be enough to advance and win this thing.

After a harsh loss at home against the Royals for the second time this season, my team, the Grey Ducks were effectively put out of playoff contention, even with beating the 1st seeded Kansas City Coyotes in a very tough matchup that was very much in favor of the Coyotes. reflecting back on this season, I had about 900 yards rushing and five touchdowns, and these stats were very similar for my teammates, Baby Yoda and Rick Skuff. So with this massive rushing attack of 2793 yards, the third-most in the league, how could this two-time reigning Ultimini champion lose? This is due to the passing attack, Minnesota finished with the second-least passing yards in the league, totaling a poor 1599 yards with a 7:12 TD:INT total on the season. While this amount of yards isn't that bad compared to the other teams, the teams that have the most yards like the Pythons, Luchadores, and Coyotes are in the playoffs, unlike my Grey Ducks. The defense was great on the other hand, leading the league in sacks. The way to improve next year is to continue developing the two quarterbacks Sim Snowbow and Zach Vega, while also drafting much needed WR help in the next draft.

The London Royals came into their inaugural year as the underdog of the league. Expansion rival Dallas Birddogs were ranked slightly higher by most people’s metrics. Despite starting out a steep TPE disadvantage, the Royals grew at a rate that far surpassed any other team. Week in and week they put in the work. As it stands now, there’s 3-4 Royals that are projecting to go in the first 3 rounds of the NSFL draft. In the end, London won 5 games, and was challenging for a playoff position up until the last 2 weeks. The Royals had a run heavy offense championed by Skyline and Batista, that put up the 4th most yards per game in the league. In the coming year, the Royals should look to improve on that by giving their QB, Colby Jack, some more weapons on offense. On defense, the Royals need more help on the line. They boasted one of the better secondaries in the league, but they need to expand on the rest of that defense. With only 1 solid LB, they could use some help there as well. I think it’s safe to say that barring any major callups, the Royals are in good position to be playoff contenders next year with some additions on both sides of the ball. The Royals have an advantage compared to other DSFL teams, in that all their players are new players, which means they are less likely to be called up due to TPE concerns. This gives the Royals a solid 1 year window next year to have likely the best team in the league along with the Birddogs.

My team will be the Ultimus champions because we are favored by the sim this season. Every team needs a little luck. Just a smidgen to push them past good or great into prolific or unstoppable. Playoffs are not just a test of a team’s skills, but also their luck to remain unbeaten. We have great players like Havran, the league best RB duo in Williams and Reed, and obviously one of the greatest WRs in league history with Maddox. We even have a stellar defense with a strong front seven, and on of the league all time highest tpe earning players in Walt Green at S. however I think what has truly set this team apart from our competitors is that we are favored by the sim. There has always been speculation that the sim favors certain players or teams, and i for one believes in that conspiracy. For some time the sim has not been kind to Baltimore, but that has changed this season. It is the first time since Week 1 of S18. Yup it had been a full two seasons since the last time we beat YKW, including several playoff matches. That is how i know we are destined for Ultimus victory this season.

Everyone knows the old saying “defense wins championships” as it is used repeatedly to rationalize why a certain team has a chance at winning the championship. With the Portland Pythons currently sitting in the driver seat for the second playoff spot in the NFC North, it is hard not to think of that old saying. As of week 12, the Pythons have only scored 203 points, making them the second lowest scoring team in the entire league while leading the league in interceptions thrown. TO make up for the deficit in scoring, the Pythons have built the best scoring defense, allowing only 200 points over 12 games. Additionally, the Pythons lead the league in tackles for loss (TFLs) and interceptions, shows the Python defense is an aggressive unit that does not try to stop the opposing offense, but give their offense good field position. To get to the championship game, the Pythons will have to go through the Kansas City Coyotes. During the season, the Coyotes and the Pythons went 1 – 1 against each other, meaning the game is likely to be a tossup. However, the Pythons ended the season with a 2-0 over the final two weeks while the Coyotes suffered a devastating loss against the Grey Ducks and the Luchadores, both teams which did not qualify for the playoffs.

In Austin, we have recently tasted the sweet meat of the Ultimus. We rode a strong offense into the playoffs last season and caught lightening in a bottle. This year, we took a bit of a step back in the offensive category, but we made up for it on the defensive side of the ball. We still made the playoffs, but we were not riding the same wave of success that we saw last year. The success is not far off and I do believe that our GMs can figure out the winning recipe with what we have going forward. We were unable to manhandle our way through games with run this season as opposed to what we did best last season. I feel we may need to improve the pass game so that defenses respect the deep ball and hopefully that will lead to the defense backing off the line of scrimmage. If we can get that deep threat and stretch the defense, our running game will have no problem getting back to where it was. We still need to keep up our defensive production and not let it slide as we look to improve our offense. If we can put it all together, we will be set up to win multiple Ultimus trophies in the near future.
