Hi, I am finally back to continue my series on the DSFL Hero of the week articles. Today I will be going through weeks 3-6, and a special Hero of the Month nomination. It is not easy to choose from all the incredible performances each week, and it is also harder to try and include non big names. I know that there will be some controversy, but it comes with the territory. Anyways, lets start off with our week 3 hero.
In week 3, Richard Gilbert of Tijuana had the best performance, gaining 101 yards on the ground and a touchdown, along with 17 yards receiving and a receiving touchdown. In the first quarter against the Buccaneers, the game was going at a snails pace, with no scoring, and no long drives until the Luchadores drove down the field and kicked a 28 yard field goal. It would be another 11 minutes before there was another score, coming off the leg of Jacob Small, putting the Luchadores up 6-0. Unfortunately for the Luchadores, the Buccaneers would drive down the field and score off a 10 yard pass from Chris Ramos to Leeroy Jenkins. Going into the half down a point, the game was by no mean in a score now situation, so they took their time and kept handing the ball off between Gilbert and "Running Back", before Gilbert would punch the ball in from two yards out, putting the Luchadores up by 6. The lead would not last long, as on the second play of the Buccaneers drive, Chris Ramos would run the ball in from 63 yards out to put the Buccaneers up a point, 14-13. The Luchadores would not panic, and drove down the field in just over 3 minutes to score, a 17 yard passing touchdown from Smokin Sloth to Gilbert, Gilbert's second touchdown of the day. After the Buccaneers punted the ball, the Luchadores would once again march down the field with the help of their backfield, before "Running Back" would run the ball in from 13 yards out, putting the Luchadores up 27-14. After a few three and outs, the Buccaneers would drive down the field and score, but it would be too late as the Luchadores were able to run the clock out and come away with a win, 27-21.
For week 4, I had a very hard decision to make between Bradley Owens of Dallas, and Kayne McZeal of Portland. There was another fantastic performance, but I will touch on that later. In the end I had to give the nod to Kayne McZeal, but I will still be writing an article about Bradley Owens. I might have some bias, being a former Python, but that doesn't take away from McZeal's great performance. After most of the first quarter had passed with little to no offense at all, Portland finally started moving down the field, thanks to great positioning from their defense and special teams. Finally punching the ball in with 1:45 remaining in the first, McZeal scored his first touchdown of the day on just his third carry of the day. Putting the Pythons up 6-0 after a missed extra point. The Pythons' defense would have two fantastic drives in a row, including an interception returned for a touchdown by Mac Griddle, putting the Pythons up 13-0. The Royals would score on the next drive, thanks to a field goal from Datsum PhastBawl, bringing the game to 13-3. Unfortunately for the Royals, the Pythons would once again march down the field, scoring on a 10 yard pass from George O'Donnell to Sean Snyder, bringing the score to 20-3 before the end of the first half. After halftime, both teams had a possesion that ended in no score, before the Pytons stormed down the field and scored again, on a 5 yard rush by McZeal to bring the score up to 27-3. With the Royals offense stuck in the mud and unable to do anything, both sides took turns punting the ball, until finally in the fourth quarter, the Royals scored another field goal. Ed Ball, the hero of week one would attempt to show off more heroics by recovering an onside kick, but the Royal offense could not muster any more points, ending the game. The Pythons won 27-6, thanks in large part to the stellar performance by Kayne McZeal. A very close runner up, Bradley Owens had an absolutely phenomenal game on defense, getting 16 tackles, with a forced fumble and fumble recovery as well. Owens was everywhere on the field, and helped that defense gain a win for the Dallas Birddogs. Unfortunately I was unable to find someone to use for an image, so they will be without any graphics.
The second London safety to make this list, Greedy Sly is almost guarenteed to be the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. He backed up this claim by having a fantastic game. With 10 tackles, 2 deflections, and an interception, he was able to help the Royals win a very close game against the Buccaneers. The game started out very slow, with both teams switching off on short drives, ending in a scoreless first quarter. Greedy Sly ended the first quarter with 4 tackles and a deflection, a very hot start from the #1 overall pick. After a punt by the Buccaneers, the Royal offense was able to get moving, and made it into the endzone from 2 yards out on a Jacoby Batista rush. 7-0 Royals. The Buccaneers next drive started off fine, but penalties would ultimately force them to punt it to the Royals who were unable to generate any offense. On the Buccaneers next drive, they stormed down the field in just over two minutes to score on an 8 yard pass from Chris Ramos to Leeroy Jenkins, tying the game up 7-7. The Royals would gamble with less than a minute left, trying to get another score, but Danny King would cough up the ball on their own 14, giving the Buccaneers perfect field position, which would lead to a 31 yard field goal to put the Buccaneers up 10-7 at the half. On the Royals first drive of the second half, they were able to march down the field, with help from the Buccaneers defense comitting two penalties, including a huge unsportsmanlike penalty that brought the Royals into the redzone. Danny King would redeem himself for the halftime blunder by running the ball in from 6 yards out. 14-10 Royals. On the second play of the upcoming Buccaneers drive, Chris Ramos would throw an interception to Cadillac Mitchell, which would give the Royals fantastic field position just outside the redzone. Unfortunately for the Royals, they were unable to muster any offense and would turn the ball over on downs. On the following drive, Chris Ramos again would make a risky pass, that would be jumped on by Greedy Sly and brought all the way down to the Buccaneers 13 yard line, helping the Royals score another touchdown with a 9 yard touchdown pass from Colby Jack to Donatello Arrabiata. The score off of Sly's interception would put the Royals up 21-10 before the start of the fourth quarter, and after two short drives from both teams, the Buccaneers offense would start to march down the field. After the start of the fourth quarter however, Chris Ramos would once again make the wrong decision, and threw his third interception of the day, this one going to Lesean Crooks. The Royals offense would move down the field, burning lots of clock on the way, but would ultimately turn the ball over on downs. On the next Buccaneers drive, Chris Ramos would help his offense storm down the field, and after a goal line rush from 3 Jeffrey and a 2-pt conversion, the Buccaneers were just a field goal down. Unfortunately for the Buccs, they would kick the ball off and never see it again, as the Royals would chew out the rest of the clock to win 21-18.
For the final week, I chose to include Jack Banks of Norfolk, who could have also been the week 4 hero with a 6 tackle and 4 sack game. I decided to get some more names out once I found out about his other stellar performance in week 6, which included a forced fumble, and an interception returned 59 yards for a touchdown in a very close 1 point game. The first quarter would start off with both teams swapping drives that would end thanks to a sack or penalty on the offense. The Pythons would finally get points on the board with 3:57 left in the first quarter, a 37 yard field goal off the leg of Psuedo QB. On the ensuing drive, the Seawolves would muster 3 penalties , starting at their own 29 yard line and finishing at their own 8 yard line, a lack of discipline punishing the defense by giving the Pythons good field position. Lucky for the SeaWolves, their defense would step up, and force the Pythons to turn the ball over on downs. The start of the second quarter would be a quiet one, as both teams would punt the ball away, until the SeaWolves would finally get moving down the field, and punch the ball in on a 2 yard rush from Tequila Sunrise, making the score 7-3 before the end of the first half. At the start of the third quarter, the Pythons would march down the field, and after a little hiccup from Kayne McZeal, George O'Donnell would comlpete a 6 yard pass to Videl-San, to give the Pythons a 10-7 lead early in the third quarter. After a sloppy drive from the SeaWolves, the Pythons were on the doorsteps of scoring again, when DB Jadakiss stripped the ball out of Joseph Petrongolo's hands at Norfolk's 9 yard line. The SeaWolves would go three and out, but Jadakiss took points off the board in a drive that could have put the SeaWolves in a horrible situation. On the next Pythons drive, George O'Donnell would throw the ball right into the hands of Jack Banks, who would end up finding the endzone for a pick-6, putting the SeaWolves up 14-10. Two drives in a row, that SeaWolves defense effected the scoring of the game, in a major turning point as the third quarter would come to an end. On the next Python drive, they stormed down the field, and scored on an 8 yard pass from George O'Donnell to Daniel George. Putting the Pythons up 17-14. After a three and out from the SeaWolves, the Pythons would again move down the field, and score on a 40 yard field goal from Psuedo QB, to go up 20-14. On the ensuing kickoff, Bayden Brosley would recieve the ball at the 9 yard line, and would return the kickoff nearly for a touchdown, getting tackled at the Pythons 7 yard line, a huge return to put the SeaWolves in incredible field position. It would take three plays for the SeaWolves to get in the endzone on a 3 yard pass from Suleiman Ramza to Griff Oberwald. 21-20 SeaWolves. On the next Python drive, they would make it to midfield, before a sack by the SeaWolve defense and penalty on the Python offense would force them to punt. Another SeaWolves drive would be over as quickly as it started, giving the Pythons the ball on their 40 with 2 minutes to get into field goal range. On the third play of the drive however, George O'Donnell would throw an interception to Bayden Brosley, effectively ending a very close and intense game.
And now For the hero of the month, I decided to go with Jamar Lackson. For his second year in the DSFL, he has shown incredible Flashes of talent, and has had incredible consistancy in each game he has played in From week 1-6. Averaging just under 114 yard a game, Jamar Lackson is in the running For the rushing title this year, tied For second among all Running Backs with 7 touchdowns, and averaging a Fantastic 4.2 yards per carry. He has been a workhorse For the GreyDucks, with 242 attempts, second behind Tequila Sunrises staggering 284 carries. Not bad For a Runningback huh? Expect to see his name a lot this season, the GreyDucks have the second best record in the DSFL so Far, and are looking to win a title this year, with the help of the Formidable Flowing Feats From Jamar Lackson.
Thank you for reading, I'm already behind the next 4 weeks, so I will do my best to get them done over the weekend, I hope everyone is enjoying this series and I look forward to continuing it.
