I played on the Amarillo Tumbleweeds in the S24 Prospect Bowl. The team had offensive struggles throughout the Bowl, which often lay on the shoulders of QB Bill Brasky. Things got so bad at one point that there were even fights in the locker room between players on the defense and Brasky, as reported by SET's Bert Mercer. After that conflict, our offense started off hot in the Tumbleweeds' playoff game against the Brooklyn Atlantics, and we got out to a 20-3 lead at the half. It all came tumbling down in the second half as Brasky threw a pick 6 and the offense was held scoreless. We lost 23-20 to the eventual Prospect Bowl champions.
Come draft night, I was surprised when Brasky was drafted and the commentators announced him as a kicker/punter. I had played with him only a few weeks ago as quarterback, but apparently he had switched positions since then and the Grey Ducks drafted him to be their kicker/punter. It's impossible for me to know whether it was his poor play in the prospect bowl that led him to switch positions or whether his dreams of being a kicker were hindering his quarterback play for the Tumbleweeds. Apparently the switch is going decently well for him, as his kicking with the Grey Ducks has been solid and he had a great first week punting with a 44.7 yd average and 3 punts inside the 20. Regardless, it is always going to be strange for me to watch Grey Ducks games and see my controversial Prospect Bowl QB out there in a completely different position.
