In the famous words of the Cranberries; everyone else is doing it, so why can’t we? Well worry not, we can. And so in this case the “we” is a collection of thoughts and locker room insights between user y2bobman and London Royals LB L’Gazzy Burfict in a Matrix esq. meeting of worlds. So here goes nothing.
Round 1, Pick 1: Berlin Fire Salamanders : Swantavius Jones, Cornerback
y2bobman: First pick of the draft, newly formed expansion team who will want to make the most of this opportunity. There are a few options available; three names come to mind immediately. But I’m going to go out on a limb here and opt for a player and user who has made an outstanding contribution in their debut season, and with terrific potential at ISFL level. Coming in to the roster as an OL and switching to meet team needs to CB, they led the team in tackles in the teams first game of the season, a narrow win in Minnesotta, also managing a forced fumble and pass deflection. Not bad for a rookie stepping into the bright lights of the DSFL. Form continued throughout the season, 73 tackles in regular season at an average of 5 per game. Finally, everyone loves a CB with a sack in their locker. Off the field, user Swanty is a graduate of the esteemed London Sim School and has also taken up roles with HO. There is no stopping them right now; a shoo-in for 1OA. Or maybe I made that all up and just copied everyone else’s mock draft? You tell me.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Just don’t let them tell you which bus the Ultimini celebrations are on, I was stuck on that tour bus for four hours man.
Round 1, Pick 2: Yellowknife Wraiths : Albert Ruschmann, Defensive End
y2bobman: Now they have one of the most disturbing logos within the ISFL and I can understand the reasoning of trading up to second pick here; the Wraiths are looking to soften their image. They need a new face of the franchise for years to come, a good guy, a nice guy, someone who is going to draw in the fans. As mentioned it was close between three players for 1OA but I feel the Wraiths are going to opt for the solid user / player combination in Katarn22 / Ruschmann here. Can the DE deliver on the field? Yes. Stats don’t lie and this was particularly evident when he won Royals DPotW with his showing against Dallas in week 4. More importantly, can he deliver off the field? Again, yes. He’s well versed in simming (another graduate of the superb London Sim School) but most importantly he is probably the nicest player you will (probably never) ever meet.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Man, me and Rusch been together from college up in Rutgers. He’s always first guy up to buy a round so if that ain’t selling him for you I don’t know what will.
Round 1, Pick 3: Philadelphia Liberty : Tayshawn Crunk, Safety
y2bobman: There are two Crunks for the price on one here, and together they make a great pick at three for the Liberty. Firstly, Crunk as the player is a pure TPE machine for a Reddit Rookie and this has led to him being Royals DPotW two times over the season. He’s an all-star-play kinda guy and demonstrated this in his standout game; week 11 vs Dallas. Crunk dominated that day (as did most of the Royals its fair to say) coming in with a lovely 40 yard interception TD early in the second quarter. Beautiful. The safety racked up a league equalling five Interceptions over the season to go along with their 50 tackles, not a bad haul. Want to also note that in post season Crunk hit a sack in each game (after only registering one in all regular season). Now as for Crunk the user, well they are a little like marmite. Either you love them, or you pretend you don’t love them. Either way, Crunk the user is certainly someone you want in your locker room; if only to escape from his crosshairs on Twitter. As a mate IRL I can vouch for them too, but then what do I know, it takes me 45 seconds to down a pint. Oh, I should also mention that he’s yet another London Sim School graduate. I should really be on some commission for recommending that place…
L’Gazzy Burfict: You want a great night out, phone Crunk. You had a bad night out? It’s cos you don’t know Crunk.
Round 1, Pick 4: San Jose Sabercats : L’Gazzy Burfict, Linebacker
y2bobman: A little awkward this one. Very much a “no frills, what you see is what you get” pick. Having just won the Ultimus Trophy it’s clear that the brains behind the Sabercats are top drawer. They are not looking for someone to come in with new simming ideas, they’re set in that department. Which is an ideal fit with y2bobman / L’Gazzy Burfict. They’re getting a user with no sim experience (he’s got a Mac because he looks cool) but a player who grinds out max TPE. A two-time DPotW at the Royals, Burfict switched from run stopper to speed rusher mid-season which led to a clear improvement in numbers. Standout game for them was in week 13 against the Seawolves, hitting 10 tackles (averaging just over five per game in regular season) and a sack.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Does this mean I gotta move again, I only just moved in to this place!
Round 1, Pick 5: Colorado Yeti : Terry Yaki, Running Back
y2bobman: Now with the Yeti trading up to five there must have been a clear reason. And this is it. Sylphreni just does not want to miss out on a Running Back who won OPotW F-I-V-E times during the season. The DSFL equivalent of Booker T. I’m unable to pick a standout game because of this but bringing in over 1000 yards was a major factor behind the Royals’ run to Ultimini gory. Sure, TPE is a little low right now but it’s been used to great effect thus far, Doomraider has a clear plan. Yeti looking to the future with this one.
L’Gazzy Burfict: One of the few guys who can beat me on the field; speed kills.
Round 1, Pick 6: Baltimore Hawks : Jake Fencik, Kicker
y2bobman: Now most kickers can kick, that’s kinda their job, that’s a given. Majority of those can kick it pretty far, can kick it pretty straight. But where a lot fall down is in their focus when it matters (as a Bengals fan I’m well aware of this issue). In week 10 the Bucs tied the Royals with the help of a two point conversion. This is a game they had to win but the Bucs D stood firm. Step up Jake Fencik. 30 seconds left, 42 yard field goal. He’s got the game winning touch and provides great competition for the starting berth.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Man he got some fancy ass cleats for a guy who ain’t moving too far, but they must be doing something right.
Round 1, Pick 7: Honolulu Hahalua : Brent Silva, Defensive Tackle
y2bobman: I’m pretty sure if you were placing a bet on this pick you’d be given pretty short odds on Silva being taken. With Honolulu not resigning a number of their inactives they’ve been left with holes in some key areas. And what better way to fill these than with Brent Silva. I have it on good authority that this man can out-eat an all-you-can-eat buffet and has been racking up solid TPE since coming to the Royals through free agency. Eat big to get big is how he lives his life. Just keep him away from the sea as there is no way he will float. Stats, stats I hear you ask. Well, if I told you Silva was tied with the hotly tipped Goat Tank in TFLs perhaps you’d realise why this is such an astute pick at seven.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Keep my man fed and he will deliver on the field, big guy big heart.
Round 1, Pick 8: Arizona Outlaws : Adam Spencer, Wide Receiver
y2bobman: The Outlaws had a reasonable season, sure. But they want more than that. Now the Royals LR is currently the home of Outlaws WR Gunner Thorbjornsson who has been a great mentor for Spencer. Z-Whiz recognised the potential with recreate AdamS and will get his way; the Outlaws will take Spencer at eight. Stats wise, if you’re a fan of your three times table you will love the pick. 3 TDs, longest being a 33 yarder. Average of 9.9 yards per carry. So yeah, perhaps three times table is stretching it. Maybe he should have gone at nine.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Time to shine over in Arizona man!
Round 1, Pick 9: Chicago Butchers : Steve Wadham, Safety
y2bobman: A solid pick for a great combination of player and user here. I’m going to ignore the entire regular season, who cares. I’m going to ignore the play-off game against the Pythons, just not interested. Let’s go to the Ultimini and this is where Wadham makes a name for himself. Anyone who registers two sacks, as a safety, in an Ultimini, needs to be taken seriously. And the Butchers have done just that, taking him at nine. Oh, and if you’ve not checked out their Dotts card then I urge you to do so. Do it, do it now.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Respect for the four day bender after Ultimini, Chicago gonna love you!
Round 1, Pick 10: New Orleans Second Line : Medicinal Toblerone, Offensive Line
y2bobman: I know what you’re thinking, bit of a curve ball here, right? Wrong? Just because the London Royals won the S25 DSFL Ultimini it doesn’t *automatically* mean that all their players are a step ahead of the competition. I think taking Toblerone here is a great decision. A S25 player with 254 TPE, user JuOUs clearly knows what she’s doing here and I respect that. Stats wise, I’m a fan of 30 pancakes across the season. Any more than that would have just caused indigestion.
L’Gazzy Burfict: But they don’t play for the Royals?
Round 1, Pick 11: Orange County Otters : Marlon Alexander, Offensive Line
y2bobman: User Plat has recently returned from IA, no way they were going to let Alexander miss the Ultimini party. Their highlight of the season was in winning OPotW in the loss to Luchadores – registering a season high five pancakes. I think five is about my personal limit too. Alexander also only allowed for three sacks through the season, very impressive. An active voice in the locker room I think Orange County have landed themselves the steal of the first round so far.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Crap, this move ain’t gonna help my sacks man!
Round 1, Pick 12: Sarasota Sailfish : Gavin Leclerc, Cornerback
y2bobman: User gav is one of the most active members of the London locker room and if a user is active then the liklhood is that the player will follow suit. I also have it on good authority that they’re currently eyeing up an 80s classic – so that bumps them up anyones draft board, surely. Leclerc’s numbers we’re not as eye catching as his taste in cars, but with Andrews (who will have no doubt made the Sailfish WR aware of the prospect) and Jones as mentors this year I’m sure we’ll see that paying off next season. Watch this space.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Yo gonna is having you around the place, go show Sarasota what you got.
Round 1, Pick 13: New York Silverbacks : Joe Show, Tight End
y2bobman: Joe Show has recently gone IA which is why his stock dropped a little; but there is clear potential there for when they are back with us. Now picking an IA is risky but as a new franchise New York will be aware that to make an impact they have to take those risks. Just the solitary TD for Show during regular season but you need to remember that Show was behind Frank Michell in the roster. Go and enjoy the big apple.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Go make your mark in New York Joe, be seeing you soon
Round 1, Pick 14: San Jose Sabercats : Goat Tank, Defensive Tackle
y2bobman: So now that we’re fresh out of Ultimini winning London Royals to pick from there are many many options. Players breaking season records, users developing new and different ways to help sim their teams to glory (but not Ultimini glory). But I’m a busy man, and I’m a little tired from writing this up. So my pick here is Goat Tank – people are always Tweeting about them so they must be a good prospect. Looking forward to you lining up alongside Burfict in San Jose.
L’Gazzy Burfict: GOAT TANK
So there you have it, my first round complete. Don’t worry, thankfully i’m not actually an ISFL GM.
