Welcome to my DSFL Mock Draft! This was a combination of guessing, TPE, and team needs. I also relied on the TPE tracker for callups, so if some of the write-up stuff is wrong, that's probably why. And there are no trades and no position changes.
Can't wait to see how wrong I am tomorrow!
ROUND ONE
1. Minnesota Grey Ducks - DE Ernest Lover
With the first overall pick, Minnesota drafts Ernest Lover and immediately shores up their defensive line. No team gave up as many points last year as the Grey Ducks, so they’ll be looking for an immediate impact. He was signed by Kansas City last season and despite playing only four games, finished tied for third on the team with five tackles for loss. Lover is a balanced-type DE, which means he’ll be able to fill multiple roles for the Duck defense.
2. Dallas Birddogs - RB Mr. Forty-Two
No team scored fewer points last year than Dallas, so the Birddogs will be looking to flip the script early in the draft. To add insult to injury they lost their star RB Zoe Watts to the Austin Copperheads, which makes Forty-Two the pick. He showed his ability last season with 239 rushing yards, a pair of TD, and 4.6 yards per carry as a member of the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. The Bucs didn’t rely on him too much in the passing game (23 receiving yards) but he’s got elite speed and can turn into a do-everything RB for Dallas.
3. Kansas City Coyotes - CB Cobra Kai
Only two teams allowed more points than Kansas City last year, so this will be a massive upgrade. Kai will be a day one starter and give the Coyotes a fearsome cornerback duo. Almost all of their losses last season were by one score, so adding an elite defender could be the difference in just missing out and punching their ticket to the postseason. Kai is by far the top CB on the board and the Coyotes are more than pleased he’s available here at #3.
4. Myrtle Beach Buccaneers- OL Richard Littlewood
The Buccaneers need some help along their offensive front and they get a gift with Littlewood falling to them at #4. Last year for London, Littlewood had six pancakes and only allowed one sack en route to the Ultimini. Myrtle Beach just missed out on the postseason last year and hopes to change that with Littlewood anchoring their offensive line. Plus, he’s the perfect replacement for Toblerone who went in the first round to the New Orleans.
5. Portland Pythons - QB LeBron James III
Portland needs a quarterback after the departure of Sam Howitzer, so they take James with their first selection. He’ll step in as the immediate starter and while there may be growing pains, he’ll have Darren Pama, Anders Christensen, and Nick Marksman as elite weapons. Not to mention Chuck Roth and Marc Hamel to keep his jersey clean.
6. Tijuana Luchadores - OL Alexander Franklin
Tijuana grabs Alexander Franklin with the sixth overall pick to help replace Mellott, and Riposte, who are now lacing ‘em up for ISFL teams. The Luchadores were an overtime loss away from going to the Ultimini and Franklin should help them get back there sooner rather than later. Franklin has big shoes to fill, as they finished second in the league in pancakes. The task certainly won’t be too much for AF.
7. Norfolk Seawolves - QB Ryan Negs
With the departure of Suleiman Ramza, Norfolk needs a new signal caller so they turn to the Prospect Bowl Champion QB Ryan Negs. The Seawolves made it back to the Ultimini last year and they return enough weapons to soften the transition from Ramza to Negs. Quarter Skrills and Alexander Johnson are about to be Negs’ two best friends for the coming season.
8. London Royals - WR Tugg Speedman
The Royals produced three 1st round picks in the most recent ISFL Draft, so they’ve got some major pieces to replace to repeat as Ultimini champs. Their WR corps was especially decimated, which led them to Tugg Speedman to finish up the first round. Charlemagne Cortez is elite, but needs weapons on the outside.
ROUND TWO
9. Minnesota Grey Ducks - WR Arthur Naught
After taking DE Ernest Lover with the first overall pick, the Grey Ducks switch to offense in the second round and select Naught. They’re looking to replace leading receiver Killian Chambers and will be throwing Naught into the fire as a starter from day one. Sim SnowBow will certainly be pleased to get some much needed offensive help here with the 9th overall pick.
10. Dallas Birddogs - DE Makoto Otawara
Dallas goes to the defensive line here after selecting Mr. Forty-Two with their first pick. Otawara should be a major help to their defensive front that struggled last year. As a whole, the Birddogs had the fewest tackles for loss and third fewest sacks in the league last season. Those are two areas that Otawara can help in immediately. The 6’6” power rusher is really good value here at #10.
11. Kansas City Coyotes - S Derek Wildstar
Kansas City doubles up with secondary picks at #3 and #11, adding Cobra Kai and now Derek Wildstar. With these two additions, the Coyotes have an elite secondary that can compete with anyone in the league. Wildstar is a do-everything safety and will provide much needed help over the top. Good luck throwing the ball deep against what could be one of the biggest one-year turnarounds this season.
12. Myrtle Beach Buccaneers - DE Moe Skeeter
It isn’t always sexy, but oftentimes you cannot go wrong by loading up on elite trench players. The Bucs took Littlewood in the first and now go over to the DL and pick up Moe Skeeter. Skeeter is great value for them here as they’ve now taken two of the best players in the draft so far. Skeeter will step in for Arlington Heights, who is now a Sarasota Sailfish.
13. Kansas City Coyotes - WR Raphael Delacour
Kansas City takes Delacour here after going back-to-back in the secondary with their first two picks. They need playmakers on the outside and Delacour is that and more. The Coyotes have potentially gotten the three highest value picks so far in what could be a franchise changing draft. Are we looking at the next Ultimini Champs?
14. Tijuana Luchadores - WR Mario Messi
Tijuana picks up an elite skill player here as they draft Mario Messi 14th overall. They lost both Howlett and Vequain to the ISFL and will be counting on Messi to pick up the load from day one. The University of Miami product is a polished route runner so he should have no trouble making an impact early on for the Luchadores.
15. Norfolk Seawolves- LB Leonard Taylor
Talk about value! Norfolk gets a much needed linebacker here with Leonard Taylor at #15. There was an exodus of defenders from the Seawolves last year who are now in the ISFL, so Taylor is the natural replacement for the hole they left. Is he the next Rusty Rucker or Jimi DeSoto? Norfolk certainly hopes so. Taylor will provide help off the edge and in the run game as the Seawolves try to avenge last year’s Ultimini loss.
16. London Royals - S Dogwood Maple
London needs a safety and they’ve never lost when I’ve been on the field. I’m certainly glad I updated my passport last week as I head across the pond to the reigning Ultimini champs.
Congrats to all the (mock) draftees!
