Hello people of the ISFL. I am here today to bring to your attention about how the league has been oppressing some teams. This may come as a surprise to most people, as they probably don’t realize what is happening. What I’m talking about is the game order for sims. Now, what could be the problem with that you may ask. The games are played in alphabetical order, based on the home team which should be fair, right? While I agree that yes, this is a relatively fair way to operate, it oppresses teams that are alphabetically challenged.
As a member of the Sarasota Sailfish (I’m sure Yellowknife has it even worse) I have to regularly wait until either the last or second to last game to watch my team play. This is especially tough for me right now as I’m frequently busy with school. Sparing a few minutes to watch a game is fine, but having to wait over a half hour and be uncertain of what time the specific game will be on is tough. Just last week I was very tired after a long day but wanted to watch my team play before heading to bed. Of course, it was a sim where we were the last game of the night. I had the sim running on my second monitor waiting as I browsed the internet and was nodding off. My eyes kept forcefully closing and after a while, I decided I couldn’t stay up any longer and ultimately went to bed without the chance to see my favoured Sailfish play.
I believe that the current system is unfair to teams with names in the latter half of the alphabet. It’s the year 2020, nearly 2021 and the league is quite progressive in most aspects. In bringing up this problem, I also come with a solution that I believe would make sims more inclusive to alphabetically challenged teams. My solution is to sim in reverse alphabetical order on even-numbered weeks during the regular season. This would bring more diversity where teams play in the game order, and I believe would distribute more overall happiness to the league. Yes, I understand that current teams near the top of the alphabet would lose out a bit, but happiness does have diminishing returns. If we flip the sim order every other week more people will get a chance to see their team play first or early. I’m sure Arizona is happy seeing their team play first approximately ten times per season, but if we reduced this to say six with the new method, Yellowknife would feel more happiness from playing early than Arizona loses from moving down due to diminishing returns on this type of scenario.
I hope that head office has a chance to read this and give it a serious look. Maybe we can have a civil discussion about this inequality happening. If, for some reason, the sim has a locked order and nothing can be done then disregard this. However, with my experience in SHL and PBE they can sim any game in any order.
Thank you.
