So I wanted to still take advantage of the current opportunity for the extra media pay and talk to you about the different DSFL destinations and why or why not I think that Joliet Christ Jr., my new player, will be drafted by that team in the upcoming DSFL draft!
The Portland Pythons were the team of JCJ's father Joliet L. Christ when he played in the DSFL and was both a waiver pickup and a draftee by the Portland franchise who were yellow and black in the times of JLC. Portland could be looking to carry on the legacy and have both a father and son play for their franchise!
Why Portland drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
Portland is a team extremely unlikely to pick up a QB in this draft and if they do, it would not likely be the best available QB in the draft as they may have to take one sooner than needed. Portland would need a good reason to draft JCJ and maybe they have a couple. Having been the place where Joliet L. Christ started his career and launched a hall of fame career, Portland could want to do it for the legacy. They could have issues with current quarterback option Lebron James III that are unknown to people or feel timid about the 13/12 TD/INT ratio put up by him last season, though he was quite solid at 3rd in the DSFL in passer rating. LB3 is also headed to the ISFL draft this season and if a team needs him at a different position than QB, it could throw a wrench in Portland's plans if he switches sooner rather than later and they will be going for a quarterback. It is not impossible to see Christ Jr. on the same team as his father from years ago.
Why Portland passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
Honestly, if I was a betting man, I would take this side of the bet and say that Joliet will not be a Python at the start of Season 26 for a few reasons. The first is the aforementioned LB3 and the fact that he was the 3rd best QB in terms of passer rating last season. He has already reached the cap and appears to be this team's quarterback for the foreseeable future despite something drastic such as an immediate position change and/or call-up to the ISFL. I think Joliet will be the first quarterback off the board and while I could be wrong there as there are some great people at the position, he likely is a top 2-3 QB at worst coming off the board. Portland has a lot of other needs and to get ahead of a team that may need a QB this coming season or next season may require them taking a QB in the top 4 rounds and that is something I do not think will happen.
Why Kansas City drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
In not wanting to sound rude or anything, I just don't believe that Matt Peterson is a future ISFL quarterback so I could see some kind of position swap at some point taking place and if that happens, Kansas City is in need of a guy in the next year or so at the QB position. QB is the highest earning need in the league and when you are behind guys a regression class a season ahead, you are likely in rough shape at least at this position but it can fare well at almost every other position. Peterson was about a league average QB last season with a 69.6 passer rating, good for 5th in the league so they could want bigger production from the position. If Kansas City has an inclination that Peterson is moving up or changing positions, they could need a QB and Christ could be their choice to have elite talent for the next 3-4 seasons.
Why Kansas City passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
Very similar to the Portland Pythons, Kansas City does not really need a QB this upcoming season with Peterson likely still being the guy there. In the comments before, while it does not seem like Peterson will be an ISFL quarterback, that could make him an ideal candidate to be a 5-year starter at the DSFL position before moving on to either a different position or a different career. If I had to guess, that would be the case here and Kansas City would know that better than anyone and maybe that is in the plans. It is easy to say though that QB is not a huge position of need and with a lot of defenders that are likely headed to the ISFL, they probably prioritize the defense and miss out on a top 2-3 QB in this DSFL draft but they are okay with that.
*Disclaimer - To Matt Peterson, I felt like I was a little harsh and I promise I am not trying to be and only am referencing what I know about the QB position in this league having lived that life. I am sorry if it came out as harsh, I did not intend it that way!
Why London drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
We are now on a team that likely has a better chance to draft Christ Jr. and that is the London Royals. London currently does have a quarterback in Season 24 man Charlemagne Cortez but he is likely in his last season in the DSFL so an opening is coming for the Royals and the team needs to choose to go from one capped QB to another or possibly get a rookie next season. The idea of going from one max earner in Cortez to another in Christ Jr. should be pretty enticing to the team and maybe they like the locker room fit. London is one of the 2 teams that invited me into their locker room so far so there is at least some kind of interest there I would think.
Why London passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
This one I think is pretty easy and comes down to how early would they want to draft a QB versus other teams out there that either need or only kind of need a QB and need to decide if that value will be there later at other positions to take a QB sooner. If I had to guess, London would not take a QB early enough to have a chance to land JCJ but I do see them taking a QB at some point to try and move from Cortez to some other experienced QB more flawlessly. I do think there is a good chance they could take Christ Jr. but only if he falls maybe to round 3-4 at the earliest so if Christ Jr. goes in round 1, which is unlikely, round 2 or early round 3, London will not draft him and instead take a QB in the late rounds potentially.
Why Minnesota drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
This one is going to be an extreme long shot so bare with me. Minnesota is the team that I had scouted a few drafts ago when San Jose brought in guys like Lawrence Bass, Jamar Lackson, and Matt Krause and now went on to win 2 Ultimus titles so the connection is still there with the Minnesota alumni and the Minnesota/San Jose pipeline is strong with them also having CK on the team last year. They could want to go dual QB with Negs and Christ Jr. just to have a great locker room and add someone who was on San Jose and still kind of is a little.
Why Minnesota passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
So, this one is the obvious pick and you would probably lose money betting on this one when it comes out to be true! Minnesota has Negs who they like a lot and it is clear to see why. He actually reached out to me and we talked a little bit about being QB and battling in the future and stuff so they have a great guy for them. I would not want to take his snaps and he is about to be at the cap and I don't see him switching positions. 100% they will not draft Joliet Christ Jr. in this season's draft.
Why Bondi Beach drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
This one is an interesting one and is in a similar position to London but also is one that is a little more interesting given my user history with the franchise formerly known as Myrtle Beach and formerly known as Palm Beach. I have been both a player and co-GM for the franchise and while both stints lasted just a season, it is not like there was anything bad that occurred or drama was caused or anything. Like London, Bondi Beach has a QB in their last season in the DSFL in Jackie Daytona and could look to go from capped QB to capped QB and one who has a past with the organization. Having that connection and the desire to keep a great player at the biggest position would have to be too good to pass up but it could be and Myrtle Beach could look to add JCJ to their roster.
Why Bondi Beach passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
Similar to London again, it is all about whether the team would want to use a sooner pick to continue their capped QB run or sit and wait till later in the draft or at a future season to go with a rookie or trade draft capital for one at some point in the next off-season as well. The pick may not justify essentially a backup when the team is losing some playmakers so they would have to decide whether a backup QB for a season and capped QB next season is worth it right now, my guess is that the Bucs don't take a QB in the first 3 rounds.
Why Dallas drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
On to one of the top 2 options that I believe could draft JCJ to their roster, the Dallas Birddogs are a team in need of a quarterback so they could look to grab the premier talent at QB (Or I at hope to be and will continue to call JCJ that). Dallas is a team that has both reached out and invited me to the locker room and Kyam and I shared some Good Place and owl GIFs so there could be a fit logistically there as the GIF game is what matters most, right? Dallas has Mattathias Caliban who is making the jump to the ISFL this season so the team has no QBs on the roster and to my knowledge, I currently have the most TPE out of the QBs and I don't believe it is very close at this moment with only 3 QBs in total that appear to be active. It would present the smoothest transition at the QB position and I think Dallas would want that.
Why Dallas passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
I would think the only reason Dallas would pass on Christ Jr. right now would be if someone else drafted him before the Birddogs had a chance to. A team like London, Bondi Beach, Norfolk, or even Tijuana may decide JCJ is worth drafting earlier and take the opportunity from Dallas. It all depends on valuation and need here and the QB need is certainly there, but are they willing to just wait and grab someone like Boo Tee or Joe Bay? Maybe.
Why Norfolk drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
Norfolk's current QB is Emi Rune who is a wonderful user but also might be heading towards inactivity so a spot is open here even though I have not heard from the Seawolves' GMs. Emi has not posted since November 3rd and not been on the site since November 8th and has already retired a player though she did explain herself in an article. Emi has a negative bank balance however and it seems like she may not even make it to the DSFL cap at the QB position which leaves an opening. After Ultimus Week, Wiki and the 25th special thing, including next week stuff I will have almost 140 TPE I believe before the season starts. It is a team that has not reached out so maybe they have their eye on someone else but Christ Jr. would be an upgrade by playoff time most likely.
Why Norfolk passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
Norfolk might either believe Emi will come back enough to justify starting them or have someone in mind in the draft and that could be why they have not reached out to me so far or they may have just read my article and decided not to reach out. Norfolk is in a position to have a long time DSFL QB however if Emi does return and updates a bit more as she needs about 100 TPE or so to get to the cap but they still have a TPE advantage over any QB in the draft. They may have many other needs and just roll with what they have or another QB in the draft and avoid taking Christ Jr. earlier.
Why Tijuana drafts Joliet Christ Jr.
There are few teams that win the way that Tijuana does and that comes with knowing how to draft and position themselves well at every position and use all their picks and players wisely, it is just something that is known it seems. Tijuana is also along with Dallas in that they are in the top 2 teams that need a QB this season and that is due to Mike Boss Jr. heading to the ISFL to play for the Sailfish. Tijuana is a team that would love to transition to a QB who could easily reach the cap by playoff time after having a capped QB the last few years with Boss Jr. Tijuana would look to take Christ Jr. if given the chance. I do know there have been some personal issues between myself and some personnel with Tijuana war room people though I am not sure what for, but Tijuana might be willing to put things in the past just like I am to make this marriage happen.
Why Tijuana passes on Joliet Christ Jr.
Maybe the personal issues are just too much for some people to stomach and the franchise would not want Christ Jr. being the leader for them at the quarterback position and I could see that being a possibility which makes Dallas a more sure thing. Tijuana also picks late compared to other teams and if a team like Dallas takes Christ Jr. in rounds 1 or 2, then Tijuana would likely need to make Christ Jr. a first rounder. It will be interesting to see if they would be willing to go that high on Christ but due to JCJ being high above the rest, they might need to. If they don't want to make that commitment or if personal reasons seem to be too much, Tijuana will have Boo Tee or Joe Bay as their QB next season.
RANKINGS ON WHERE JOLIET CHRIST JR MIGHT GO
1) Dallas
2) Tijuana
3) Bondi Beach
4) London
5) Norfolk
6) Kansas City
7) Portland
8) Minnesota
Hope this was an enjoyable read and I will say now that I do not have any preference of where I go and all the rankings mentioned are just where I think is the most likely place for me to end up. If I had to guess, it will either be Dallas or Tijuana but could also see teams like Bondi Beach, London, or Norfolk taking a chance. I don't actually think Kansas City, Portland, or Minnesota will even consider myself or any other QB out there.
My prediction:
Joliet Christ Jr. will be a Birddog, drafted in the 2nd round, Boo Tee will be a Luchador drafted in the 4th round and Joe Bay will be drafted by Norfolk in the 5th round!
