Since 1.5x media was announced, I have been eager to write a media piece, anything really, as long as it was to do with the draft. However, since I wasn’t really looking to be rude to anyone or regarding any picks, I had all but lost hope of coming up with any ideas for something draft related, that is until I came up with the idea for this piece, where I will go through each of the 14 first round picks of the S26 draft and choose, what was in my opinion, their best performance this season.
Pick #1 - Berlin Fire Salamanders - BamBam McMullet (LB) from Tijuana
Performance : W3 vs Dallas Birddogs, 20-13 Victory
McMullet had his best game of the year early on in the season, on the road in Dallas with the Luchadores looking to get their first win of the season on the board. This 1st overall linebacker didn’t have the most ridiculous season stat wise in Tijuanas Ultimini campaign, and notched 9 of his 97 total tackles in this game. As well as this he picked up 2 of his seasons 3 PDs, and got a crucial interception with Dallas marching downfield to start a game winning drive for the Luchadores.
Pick #2 - New York Silverbacks - Dogwood Maple (S) from Norfolk
Performance : W13 vs Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, 32-10 Loss
Despite being a great pickup for the Silverbacks at 2nd overall, Maple didn’t have the most flattering stats in his rookie season. This was due to the fact he was drafted into a rebuilding Seawolves team, one who recorded just 2 wins on the season, where he was one of the best players in the secondary, and therefore quarterbacks knew not to send the ball his way too often. Maples stat line, was 8 tackles and a TFL to go with them. While there were other games where Maple had similar stat lines, this was by far the hardest opponent in any of the games I had chosen as candidates.
Pick #3 – Baltimore Hawks – Ernest Lover (DE) from London
Performance : W9 vs Tijuana Luchadores, 30-9 Victory
Many would say the Hawks got a steal at 3rd overall in this defensive end, a player who most had going 1st in their mocks. Lover was a key part in London’s insane defense which led the league in points allowed and was second in yards allowed. In their big week 9 win in Tijuana, Lover got 9 of their 75 tackles and 3 of their 11 TFLs from the season in this game alone, helping the Royals to a big road win.
Pick #4 – Yellowknife Wraiths – Arthur Naught (WR) from Kansas City
Performance : W8 vs Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, 20-3 Victory
The wraiths get a great pick at 4th overall in Arthurs Naught who’s user won the DSFLs most dedicated user in the awards just gone. Naught started the season off slowly but soon found form and finished the season with 720 receiving yards, and was unlucky to get just the singular TD on the season. It was a coin flip for the decision to pick his game of the season, but MB were the toughest opponents of the choices and with 7 receptions for 108 yards at an average of 15.4 of YPC, Naught had his best season of the game against them.
Pick #5 - New Orleans Second Line - Vincent Jones (LB) from Tijuana
Performance : W8 vs Minnesota Grey Ducks, 20-7 Victory
A trend with nearly all of the picks in this seasons first round is that they all seem to be steals, which is weird because they can’t go much higher, but the trend certainly doesn’t change at 5th overall with Vincent Jones going off the board. Jones had a superb rookie season with the Luchadores and deservedly finished 4th in linebacker of the year voting as well as 2nd in DROTY voting. In his best game of the season Jones recorded 7 tackles, a sack, a solid 4 PDs and an interception nearing the end of the first half which took the wind out of Minnesota’s sails and helped push Tijuana on for a win.
Pick #6 - Philadelphia Liberty - Ryan Negs (QB) from Minnesota
Performance : W4 vs Norfolk Seawolves, 30-7 Victory
The Liberty managed to pick up last seasons DSFL drafts 1st overall at 6th in this years draft in Ryan Negs, who led the Minnesota Grey Ducks to the playoffs in his rookie season, quarterbacking the second best passing offense in the league and getting himself 2477 yards plus 13 TDs in the air this season. Negs best performance of the season came in a dominant Minnesota week 4 win over the Seawolves where he passed 18 times for 221 yards and 2 TDs, earning himself a QBR of 105.
Pick #7 – Honolulu Hahalua – Cobra Kai (RB) from Dallas
Performance : W14 vs Norfolk Seawolves, 14-10 Victory
The Hahalua got one of the classes top earners at 7th in the draft, and his performances in his rookie season certainly reflected his earnings. Kai had a monstrous 1579 yards from scrimmage on the season, to go along with his 8 TDs. On awards night he picked up nearly every award he was eligible for, including RBOTY, OROTY and OPOTY. His best performance of the year came in Week 14 against the Seawolves and saw him accrue an obscene 158 yards rushing on just 17 attempts giving him 9.3 YPC, one of which was 73 yard rushing touchdown.
Pick #8 – Chicago Butchers – Alexander Franklin (OL) from Minnesota
Performance : W11 vs Norfolk Seawolves, 20-0 Victory
The Butchers took the first offensive lineman off the board at 8th overall in Alexander Hordle Franklin, another member of the Grey Ducks playoff squad, who had a stellar season, finishing 10th amongst all offensive lineman in pancakes with 47, as well as allowing just 1 sack. It’s much easier to select a best performance for O-Linemen, as I just chose the game where he had the most pancakes, which was this Week 11 win over the Seawolves where he got 5 pancakes and didn’t allow a sack.
Pick #9 – Arizona Outlaws – Moe Skeeter (S) from Portland
Performance : W11 vs Tijuana Luchadores, 24-6 Victory
Not that I am biased towards my teammate but the Outlaws get a great pick here at 9th in Skeeter, a player who many had going higher than this in their mock drafts. Skeeter had a pretty successful season his rookie year, leading the league in DTDs and coming second in interceptions as well as finishing 2nd in SOTY voting and winning DROTY. His best performance came against the Luchadores where he saw 7 tackles, a sack, plus an interception which he returned for a touchdown when the score was tight, putting daylight between the two teams and helping Portland the win.
Pick #10 – Sarasota Sailfish – Demon Jaxson (DE) from Portland
Performance : W4 vs Tijuana Luchadores, 13-10 Loss
Back to back Portland picks at 9th and 10th overall, and the Sailfish probably didn’t make this pick for Jaxsons outstanding stats, as he had just 24 tackles, 9 for a loss plus 3 sacks on the season, but more likely because of how handsome his user is. Jaxsons best performance of the season came in Portland’s other game vs the Luchadores where he recorded an astonishing 4 tackles, 3 of which were behind the line of scrimmage, in a tough 3 point Pythons loss.
Pick #11 – Berlin Fire Salamanders – Derek Wildstar (S) from Kansas City
Performance : W1 vs Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, 33-7
A steal of a selection at 11th overall for the Fire Salamanders, who traded up to get this pick of Wildstar, showing they obviously like the player a lot. Wildstar did not have the most insane season stat wise, however it was certainly respectable, which is why it’s surprising that his best performance of the season came in such a heavy loss in Myrtle Beach, where Wildstar recorded 9 tackles, including 1 for a loss, which was also the best defensive performance for his team that day.
Pick #12 – Yellowknife Wraiths – Leonard Taylor (LB) from Myrtle Beach
Performance : W12 vs Dallas Birddogs, 34-6 Victory
The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers had their first player of S26 drafted here in Taylor, who was a player who many had pegged going higher, and some had going as high as first overall. The Wraiths traded away their S27 first round pick to select Taylor at 12th. Taylor got 13 of his huge 108 tackles in this week 12 thrashing of the Birddogs, as well as getting a fumble recovery to boot. This fumble recovery helped take any bit of momentum away from the already downtrodden Birddogs and propel the Buccaneers onto a win.
Pick #13 – Colorado Yeti – Redbeard McFredbeard (DT) from Kansas City
Performance : W13 vs Tijuana Luchadores, 17-7 Loss
The Yeti got one of the best names of the first round with the 13th overall pick, as well as a pretty solid defensive end somewhere in there too. McFredbeard is another Kansas City Coyote defender, and pick number 13s best performance came in Week 13 against the Luchadores, where he managed to record 9 tackles, 1 behind the line of scrimmage and a sack to boot, in a game they were unlucky to lose, 17-7 to Tijuana.
Pick #14 – San Jose Sabercats – Tugg Speedman (WR) from London
Performance : NFC Championship vs Minnesota Grey Ducks, 33-13 Victory
The back to back reigning champions rounded out the first round of the S26 draft taking the second wide receiver off the board in a very deep receiver class. Speedman had a monstrous rookie season for the London Royals finishing 5th in DSFL receiving yards and 4th in WROTY voting, as well as being the London Royals leading receiver in the year with 841 yards and 4 TDs on 73 receptions. Speedmans best game of the season came in the NFC champ vs the Grey Ducks where he caught 9 passes for 113 yards and a TD. There were games where he had performances comparable to this one but the NFC championship game was easily the most important of them.
With that ends my article on the 1st rounds best performances, congratulations to everyone who was drafted in this draft just gone, not just in the first round, and good luck to all those looking to start their DSFL careers soon in next Wednesdays draft!
Pick #2 - New York Silverbacks - Dogwood Maple (S) from Norfolk

Pick #4 – Yellowknife Wraiths – Arthur Naught (WR) from Kansas City

Jaxsons best performance of the season came in Portland’s other game vs the Luchadores where he recorded an astonishing 4 tackles, 3 of which were behind the line of scrimmage, in a tough 3 point Pythons loss.
Pick #11 – Berlin Fire Salamanders – Derek Wildstar (S) from Kansas City
Performance : W1 vs Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, 33-7
A steal of a selection at 11th overall for the Fire Salamanders, who traded up to get this pick of Wildstar, showing they obviously like the player a lot.
