Holidays man. My favorite time of the year. I really do not get people who will just sit on their bottoms and do nothing. It really bewilders me. I mean, growing up, it was bad. We had to rely on the church for a meal very frequently. So I cannot NOT give back what I got growing up. And having all that money from football means I can now help those in the position I was before getting that college scholarship. Even in college, I would do whatever I could to help those people. Volunteering in the local food bank, making and handing the food baskets, filled with Christmassy treats, like turkey, and all those tasty treats to people that cannot afford them, and seeing the smile on their faces, and the gratitude in their eyes is what makes it for me. I was there. I know how they feel. If I can change that, even for a moment, a day, a week. That is more than enough for me. And that is the holiday spirit. The spirit of bringing joy. Whether to yourself, or someone else. I guess that is exactly where you will see me this year. The Berlin Food Bank. Making baskets, and handing them over to those that cannot afford to buy what is inside. Let's go back to our roots. When we cared about each other. But I guess you have to go through it to realize how bad it really is. Happy holidays everyone!
Your GM has asked everyone on the team to spend some time contributing to the community over the holidays. Where or how would your player spend their time volunteering? Would we find them in a children’s hospital meeting some kids, serving meals at the soup kitchen, or somewhere else? Would they volunteer alone, or with their teammates?
During the holiday season, one can find Andrew Witten volunteering at blood drives for the local New Orleans blood centers. Blood donors are so important for the community: there is no substitute for human blood, and so many people need regular blood transfusions in order to live. Cancer patients, especially those with leukemia, need constant blood transfusions. The sickle cell trait, found commonly in African Americans (who make up almost two-thirds of the population in New Orleans), also causes patients to require very frequent blood transfusions. Finally, many surgeries and trauma cases also require blood transfusions. As people get busy over the holidays, blood centers may often see a decline in donations. Witten has volunteered many hours serving his community by volunteering at these blood drives. He has autographed merchandise that donors have brought in, and has used his influence in the New Orleans area to pull large numbers at the blood drives he attends. When Second Line fans hear that they can meet a Pro Bowl cornerback for their favorite team and even get his autograph, they have showed up in large numbers to donate to this important cause. As a result, blood centers around New Orleans have been able to maintain an inventory of blood to support the needs of their communities.
Ah, the holidays, the most personable and chill time of year in my opinion! For this holiday season, I wanted to oblige my GM and go out to try to spread some good vibes in the community after this trying year! I decided to volunteer at a children's hospital by putting on show of strength and athleticism and played video games with the kids in order to help brighten up their spirits after this trying year (with me taking the proper precautions needed given the nature of current pandemic of course). During my temporary residence at the children's hospital, I managed to achieve my goal and brighten up the children's day through my goofy antics!
After leaving the children's hospital, I decided to volunteer at my old high school and help teach and coach the defensive lineman and give them tips on how to not only succeed on the field but to help improve themselves as individuals. Throughout my time at the high school, I had a great time as well as the high school football players listened and internalized the lessons and advice I espoused during the "celebrity" session I had with them. I hope that I am able to get another chance to volunteer like this next season!
Golladay is definitely gonna be out volunteering for the holidays, likely heading back to his home state of Wisconsin to help out local charities. We've been lucky to keep warm down in Arizona, but up north it gets much colder of course. You can expect him to be buying coats, hats, gloves, and more warm clothes for the kids that need them. Of course, he's getting a bit low on money right now, so it was great news when he found out that HO would be offering a week of free training. That million dollars saved will go a long way in helping out those in need. Personal volunteering is also fun of course, but this season he'll be sticking to these donations because of the global pandemic and all that. In the future you can expect him to interact with his local communities in both Arizona and Wisconsin, delivering food and Christmas toys to those in need. The toys part is especially fun, considering he's got the size to at least play the part of Santa. It's that personal touch that makes it so great, so obviously it's a disappointment that it won't be possible this year. Regardless, he's still doing what he can to help those in need, even if plans have to change to adapt in order to keep people safe.
If the General Manager of the Orange County Otters of the International Simulation Football League asked wide receiver Owen Holloway to spend time serving his community over the holidays, Holloway would turn his attention to one of the most in-need people in all of Orange County, California. Garfield Despacito, Jr. is reportedly broke and destitute after blowing all of his contract money on an outrageously expensive trainer who was almost certainly scamming him, as he showed up to camp in such bad shape that Holloway was handed the top spot on the wide receiver depth chart for the Otters. To help Despacito Jr. get out of the truly tragic hole that he finds himself in, Holloway is willing to give Despacito Jr. lessons on being a wide receiver, and even go through some of his workouts with him. Other Otters players have been pitching in however they can, with quarterback Suleiman Ramza even allowing Despacito to catch a league-leading nine touchdown receptions. It's the least that can be done with Despacito needing every little bit just to get by at this point. Fellow receiver Heath Evans has graciously taken a little bit of a back seat in the offense to Despacito, despite the considerable fanfare he brought with him when he signed with Orange County. Evans believes that it will all come back around to his own benefit in the end, so he's not even that charitable, to be honest. Holloway and Ramza are great guys though. Please keep Garfield in your thoughts and prayers as he tries to recover in these trying times.
Firstly, the General Manager would not need to force Asher to volunteer over the holidays. He would do it of his own accord. Asher Montain would likely try to spend time visiting places in the local community. So, he would start by visiting nursing homes. Elderly individuals (especially bedridden) can get lonely given that their days are all the same when their family doesn't come over to visit. However, he would also travel if able because he would also want to do the same at cancer hospitals (both adults and children). He would spend time visiting, telling stories, hearing stories, and giving gifts. Naturally, he would also hand out signed merchandise for any fans of his.
He would have no problem doing it alone, but he would likely want to enlist the help of teammates in order to increase the impact, increase the awareness, and to allow more people to meet more of their favorite stars. He would also open his doors to other friends and former teammates from the DSFL as well as other celebrity family or friends. Asher is not an idiot. He knows that skill positions is where excitement comes from. So, any quarterback, running back, or any other skill position would be more than welcome to join in to bring people joy during the holidays.
