Hey everyone. Zach here to give you a breakdown on my thoughts on my first season in the ISFL. Hope you all enjoy it and are getting amped up for the upcoming draft.
My Performance
Well let's just get this out of the way right now. My performance was not up to the level I expect of myself and I am sure that the team and my fans would agree that I can do better. The truth is that I finished near the bottom of the league in yards and yards per catch and that is unacceptable. The only thing that I was about league average in was touchdowns and to me those are always a luck stat since it just where you catch the ball. There is no doubt I need to do better moving forward.
Despite my disappointing performance, there are some things that I can see as a silver lining in the season. The main one is the uptick in my showings as the season headed to a close. The last few weeks of the season were some of my strongest from a catches and yards perspective. I was very encouraged that I was able to find my stride at the end of the season and hope I can continue to build on that moving forward. Second, the coaching staff and I have really been working on my ability in the slot this offseason in preparation of next year. I really think being in the slot will benefit my career and I should be able to put up more numbers moving forward. I really think it will feel like I am part of a whole new game or something when I am out there net year.
Team Performance
From an outsiders perspective, a back to back champion finishing at 8-8 would seem to be a colossal disappointment. However, for me and my teammates in the locker room, we are able to hold our head high after that last season. We had so many close losses, and just pulling out one win in any of those games could have given us the win we needed to make the playoffs. While I would not call this season a resounding success, I am still proud of the effort we all put in. I think the team has some very strong building blocks moving forward and additions from the DSFL (I'm really looking forward to playing with Speedman) should keep us competitive. I think we all look forward to taking the field for San Jose next year.
Predictions for Next Season
I will start this section by going over my personal predictions for the season. For me, the name of the game will be to pick up more catches and more yards for the next season. I would love it if my average yards per catch as also able to improve. I think the my forecast for next year would be as follows, 65 catches for 700 yards and 5 touchdowns. If I am able to put up stats at that level I will be proud of my effort and consider it a successful season for me personally.
For the team, I will predict just one thing, Playoffs. The whole team expects to deliver that to our fans. From the players, to the coaches, to even the waterboys, we want to do everything we can to deliver success to the wonderful city of San Jose. As always we will put 100% of our possible effort out there on the field for you the fans. We love having you at our games and could not wish for anything more than all the love and support you provide.
Finally, I would like to say one last thing for next season. My contract expires at the end of the year. I would love to be in San Jose as it really has become a second (or maybe 3rd, I still love you Myrtle Beach) home. I have every intention of asking to come back and hope that my performance next year implores not just the team to bring me back, but for you my fans to want to see me wearing that beautiful green jersey once again. San Jose has been an absolute dream location and I hope to be California dreaming through out my whole career.
I've been rambling on to much now and should go get my lift in.
Much Luv,
Zach
