Philadelphia Liberty teammates Perry Tucker, Paul DiMirio, Micah Hendrix and Tyler Oles have announced plans to start their own line of Tequila. The brand, called “Toleso”, for perhaps no other reason than its mysterious allure, is planned to be hitting liquor stores and bar shelves across Philadelphia within the next few months. While this may seem like a quick turnaround for such a new brand, the group feels that they have done their due diligence to make sure that it will be successful. “We’ve spent the past two weeks meeting with distillers and have tried over 500 different samples to find the perfect one,” said DiMirio in a slurred statement, “I have no doubt that future customers are going to love it as much as we do.”
The liquor business may seem like an odd industry for four football players to get into, but it certainly isn’t unprecedented. Only a few years ago, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal started his own brand of Vodka called Luv Shaq that has been quite successful. “We were checking out some of the bars in Philadelphia and when we asked for recommendations from bartenders we were generally unimpressed with what they gave us. We eventually just said, hey I think we can make something better ourselves. We wanted to create a tequila that was perfect for us, and we know that something we all enjoy would be enjoyed by a lot of other people too,” Hendrix added.
It seems that as athletes, they have taken a lot of care to develop a tequila recipe that can fit into their strict diet and training regimen, which may be also generate popularity among other professional and amateur athletes. “That’s right, tequila on its own is generally the lowest calorie alcohol that you can get, but we’ve also made sure that Toleso is sugar free, gluten free and made from sustainably sourced, local ingredients,” said Oles, the team’s starting cornerback.
It seems that when not hard at work preparing for the season, these four have already put a lot of time into developing an extensive marketing campaign. Perry Tucker has taken the lead for advertising the brand: “We want people to know that when they’re having Toleso, they’re getting a high quality tequila, for a fraction of the cost of some of the other brands out there, that has also been created to be healthy and supports local farmers and businesses. Toleso is about having fun with your friends and building relationships with the people that you share it with, just like the partnership between me, Paul, Micah and Tyler that has helped to make this dream a reality.”
Tucker is planning to host a tasting event this weekend after the Philadelphia Liberty inaugural home opener for friends and family as well as local bar owners that are interested in picking up the brand. “We’re planning to start small here in Philadelphia and are seeing what possibilities there may be for us to even have Toleso available at Taco Bell Stadium,” says Tucker, “We’re hoping to use the NSFL as a springboard for our product and try to make some deals when we are on the road for games as well. I think this could be the start of something big, but either way it will be a lot of fun to see what we can do with it.”
It will be intriguing to see how well this business venture will turn out for these four, as we’ve seen a lot of these types of partnerships fall apart in the past either due to arguments amongst the partners or just general inexperience in the market. Regardless, if you’re in the Philadelphia area, be on the lookout for Toleso in liquor stores near you sometime in the coming months.
