Blaster Blade, the 6'5, 310 pound powerhouse, recently drafted 2nd Overall to the Colorado Yeti. Although he started the pre-season with a stat-less first game, he eventually finished with a strong pre-season and many thought that he was for sure to produce during the regular season. But many are now doubting about his abilities under the lights.
Before the first regular season game against the Yellowknife Wraiths, Blade was feeling confident and wanted to showcase his powerful abilities to the people in Yellowknife, and around the world. Going into the game Blade ran into some media and answered some questions. "I'm ready to show why the Yellowknife organization made a big mistake not drafting me."
He did the exact opposite. He was completely shutdown by the Wraiths offensive line. Through the first half he had 0's across the board. No tackles, no sacks, nothing. He came out of the locker room, looking determined to turn it around and prove to be an impact player for the Yeti, but he eventually finished the game with 1 tackle, and nothing else.
The media caught up to him after the game and he looked extremely disappointed.
Q: How did you feel about your rookie debut?
A: I think the answer to that is obvious. The team needed me and clearly I could not produce the results they needed me to. I just gotta play better next game
Q: Being drafted so high, do you think the pressure got to you?
A: No not at all. I do not think about those kinds of things, I'm just playing football. I put it all out there tonight and nothing was working. Like I said, I just gotta look at some film, work harder so I can play better next game.
This kid looked extremely promising in the pre-season and fans were excited to see this first game against a team like the Wraiths. But, he just did not perform for the Yeti in Week 1. Will Blade be able to turn it around tonight against the Legion? He did play pretty well against the Legion in the pre-season. Under the bright lights of the NSFL Blade disappointed million of fans. Will he crash and burn? Or will he become a force in this league as many people expected him to do so. We look forward to Week 2.
