In a very fitting fashion, one of Cole's favorite charities to work with is Dallas Pets Alive, a Dallas based charity that works to eliminate the killing of companion animals and promote safe and healthy lives for the animals that go through its program. Cole couldn't think of a better cause to partner with, and as a Birddog himself, found himself a furry friend by registering and going through their adoption program. But, as Cole has a particularly time demanding job, he didn't feel right leaving his new dog alone all day, so he also took part in their foster program, which allowed both dogs to stay out of animal shelters and become familiar being around other animals and people. Cole also spends some of his spare time volunteering with DPA, either as a transport volunteer to deliver foster animals to their new foster homes or working on the promotional side to increase awareness of the programs and animals in need of assistance. As part of the promotional work, Cole, along with his pup and foster pup, were in one of the commercials and even sponsored an event for DPA at the Birddogs own stadium, the Dog House, where he personally covered the adoption fees for all pets rescued at the event.
The Boys and Girls club of America was a big part of my childhood. My father was a football coach in the area, and he would volunteer for the organization a lot in the offseason to help keep his players out of trouble. It was a no brainer to continue the legacy and volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club when I made it in the ISFL.
This year I asked members of the defense Doy Fieri, Jimi DeSoto, Tex Wrecks and Matt Cross to help me run a fundraiser by offering up autographs and photo opportunities for fans of the Liberty. The event was a fairly large success as we were able to raise twenty five thousand dollars that the Liberty matched bringing the total to fifty thousand dollars. We decided that we didn’t’ want to stop there as we could do more for all the chapters in the city. We decided to form a mentorship program in the area that all members of the Boys and Girls Club were eligible to participate in with a member of the Liberty. This was not just players on the team but also everyone in the front office. It just takes one time of people donating their time and money to open up the flood gates. I hope that I will be able to start my own charity soon.
Elliot Hord has been dedicating time and money to the local Portland Children’s Hospital. Every Saturday He stops by the Hospital to stop and visit all new patients or patients in critical care. He spends time just talking with them and trying to keep their spirits up. When he leaves, he gives them signed Python memorabilia. At Lunch time he will help distribute all of the lunches to patients on a specific floor and have lunch with those who are able to meet in the common area. At the beginning of the season, he donates money directly to the hospital to help cover costs of business during the season. At the end of the season, he donates money to a fund that helps pay for the hospital bills of the children. When he was asked why he spends so much time and money here he responded “They are the strongest children I’ve ever met. They fight through the toughest situations that many of us will never face. I’m gonna support them as much as I can, so they don’t ever feel defeated by whatever they are fighting through. No child deserves to be put in the position these kids are having to live with, and I’m gonna do whatever I can do to help them and their families now and into their future.”
"You relieve the same day over and over again, you kind of start to see who you really are."
