Hi there, I’m J0EB, the user behind the Son of Havoc. If you don’t know me already, my player Matt Cross is a part of the biggest class in the history of the league, S22. With regression about take hold and drag me slowly into the deep abyss, I wanted to look at my career so far and go through a retrospective of the season’s I’ve played. It made sense to me to do this right before regression because it marks a turning point in my career, I’ll no longer be theoretically improving but instead fighting the hard fight against time. Also it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that I only have 1 million in my bank account right now. So with that hopefully not too long winded intro out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff.
S T A T I S T I C A L A N A L Y S I S
To start, I went through the index and compiled my career stats and made a pretty table : D (It was prettier in google sheets I promise, the doc width made it kinda squished whoops. This is why I normally just screenshot the table to insert it smh but I wanted to be fancy and link it) I'll fix that in post.
Looking at this table all at once can be a bit overwhelming, but to help out, I’ll be going from left to right. So first off we have:
Tackles
When I first saw the number 566, I was impressed. And taking a look at the ISFL Franchise Career Records via WolfieBot (Shoutout to infinite for putting that together it’s so awesome), I’m rightfully impressed. I currently am 5th all time in Philly’s history for career tackles, and I think I have a good chance to break into 3rd or even 2nd place. Right now I’m exactly 100 tackles away from breaking into 3rd, which is currently held by Perry Tucker. Now I have no clue who this is so I’m gonna search it up real quick. I just went down an extravagant rabbit hole. Perry Tucker was a user who created in Season 2, and he played in Philadelphia from S2-S10 as a Linebacker. Since this was the very early days of the league, he has some impressive stats and averaged 83 tackles per game. I’m averaging 80 tackles a season, so I should be able to beat out good ol’ Perry here, but with only 2 seasons into the new sim, it’ll be difficult to say when for sure I’ll be to. (One last interesting note, is that Perry was the GM of the Norfolk Seawolves, so we both shared that in common which is kinda cool)
Now the jump up to 2nd place becomes much more difficult. With @37thchamber’s Lenox Garnett holding out at 826 Tackles. That’s 260 more than I currently have, so I would have to maintain my average of 80 tackles a season for 3.25 seasons, basically I’d have to play for four more years at or near the same level I’m currently playing at my peak. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’ll definitely be tough considering that I’m regressing while the rest of the Philly defense is getting much stronger. We’ll see how things go though and I’ll definitely be keeping track to see if this is something I can obtain.
Holding the Philadelphia Liberty’s Career record for most tackles is none other than @124715, Numbers, Richard D’Attoria V, who I had the pleasure of playing with early on in my career. He has a staggering 962 tackles. That’s 396 more than myself, so I would have to play 5 seasons with my current average of 80 tackles a year to be able to beat it. As much as I hate to say it, that’s not gonna happen unless I follow my predecessors’ footsteps by lining up at Linebacker ; ) An early congratulations for maintaining your record numbers against arguably the fiercest competition for it in a while. Two interesting notes, D’Attoria played for 10 seasons and averaged 96 tackles a year which is incredible, and Jimi Desoto, with a total of 425 tackles, is currently averaging 106.25 tackles per year :eyes:
That was a lot of writing just for tackles, and right about now I’m regretting starting this article and not just doing a podcast on it. Probably would’ve been a much more efficient way to gain the cash I so desperately need to pay off the grim reaper himself. But regardless we push on.
Tackles for a Loss
One. Who would’ve thought Free Safeties don’t get all too many TFL’s. Considering how far we start from the line of scrimmage, except on specific blitzing plays designed for us where we’re aiming at the QB, we don’t often find ourselves behind the line. I remember exactly when and where I got this TFL though. It was S23 obviously against Colorado, with Wolfie McDummy as their premier QB at the time. We had them backed up to their own 10 or 15 yard line, and coach calls my number, a FS blitz. I line up nearer the line, and as soon as the ball is snapped I rush past the OL and I’ve got my eyes set on McDummy. I’m coming from his blindside so I think to myself, wrap up and hit that ball out. Right as I’m about to slam him McDummy takes a sly step forward and I just hit him with my right arm, but it still had force behind it. I must’ve hit his arm or side just right, because he fumbles the ball, but the damn ball bounced away from me. I rush towards him and the ball but he gets there first, scooping up and rolling out to his right like he’s looking to pass still. The absolute nerves of steel this guy must have to try and pass after getting hit once and dropping the ball already, when he knew I was still giving chase. Luckily, our secondary had the receivers locked up still and their scrambling after the routes broke down were ineffective. I catch up to McDummy and this time I’m able to tackle him properly. All of this took place in seconds, and with very little breathing room for McDummy to work with considering he was back up so far near his own endzone. I’m honestly still disappointed in myself for not being able to recover that fumble, or at least put my teammates in a better position to scoop and score by bringing McDummy fully down with me.
Forced Fumbles and Fumble Recoveries
Now we’re getting to the good stuff, Forced Fumbles. This one is really fun to look at because I’m not the only current Philly player who’s gunning for the top. Currently with 8 forced fumbles in my career, I’m tied with none other than Gary Goodman, user Cody, my GM! And we’re both 1 away from tying the team’s record! It’s going to be a lot of fun keeping an eye on this to see who’ll get there first, and who will hold the record when all is said and done. And not only are we tied up at 8, but Tex Wrecks isn’t too far behind either with 6 FF’s. With plenty of time left in his career too I could see him breaking into the top 3 too alongside Cody and I.
Individually, with 8 Forced Fumbles in my career, I average a little more than 1 per season. I honestly really wish that I had more, and seeing my two seasons where I had 0 FF’s were both very disappointing. I envision Cross to be a hard hitting safety like Tyrann Mathieu or Budda Baker, so this entire past season I’ve been watching eagerly to see if I’d force a fumble and it just never happened. Here’s hoping next year I can get at least one to tie first in the record books.
For Fumble Recoveries, there’s not really much to talk about, I recover about half of the ones I force, but that’s mainly just luck of the bounce, and really thinking about it, I have 0 clue how the sim determines the bounce of the football (it probably doesn’t it just drops it in its place) or who recovers it. Honestly I wouldn’t blame Wolverine if that part of the sim was just a coinflip to see who recovers.
Sacks
Sacks are fun. I have 25 in my career, and I should have more if not for the big fat 0 I have from last season (S27). I don’t know why I never got one but it was honestly disappointing to finish out that year with nothing. I’ll cover how much I sucked in S27 in more detail later, but if we take out that 0 season, I’m averaging over 4 sacks a season, which I’m really happy with. Getting 6 in S25 was really awesome because as the self-proclaimed “Son of Havoc” I really like making those big impact plays. As most know, Sack records in the ISFL are incredibly hard (and usually impossible) to beat. For example, at number 1 for Philly is Eli Kamaka, with 56 career sacks. 56 is way out of my reach, but I think I might be able to break the top ten though, which would still be pretty cool. Perry Tucker again is at number 10, with 31 sacks, so I’d only need 7 more sacks to beat him. From there, Numbers and Wayne Howyanow are tied at 33 sacks, so it’d be cool if I could beat both those guys too. So my goal is 9 sacks in the next 3 seasons, which might be tough considering how good our Front Seven is gonna be next year, they might hog all the sacks.
Interceptions
The one we’ve all been waiting for. The epitome of what it means to be a defensive back. Interceptions. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations for Cross, but I’ve been consistently disappointed in my performances year in and year out in the terms of interceptions. I’m averaging less than 3 a year, and I’ve never had a season where I intercept more than 3 passes. Regardless, with 18 in my career I’m sitting in 4th place for Philly all-time which I’m proud of, behind Vikian Marmeladov and Richard D’Attoria V. With 26 and 31 respectively, these are numbers I just might be able to beat, but man I better step up my level of play if I wanna beat Numbers in this one. I’m 13 away, and if I keep my disappointing average of 3 a year, I need to play for 5 more years (which I’m not against doing just regression is painful). Even ignoring the placement for Philly Records, hitting 30 interceptions in my career would be absolutely astounding, but I gotta get to those to 20 and 25 milestones first. Also I find it really funny that 37thChamber’s Lennox Garnett got 37 interceptions.
Pass Deflections
We’re winding down here as we reach pass deflections, another integral stat to defensive backs. With 46 in my career, I’m not really doing too great, but like I’m not baaad per say either I guess. I don’t know, looking at it more I think I am pretty bad here. Having 4 seasons where I had 5 PDs or less is really (and I hate to say it yet again but) disappointing. And I’ve only had 2 years with 10 or more. Luckily, in the new sim it appears that Free Safeties are more apt to get pass deflections than in the old sim, so maybe I’ll be able to get a few more seasons above 10 PD’s before I retire which would be nice. Looking at the record books for this one is quite frightening. @124715 I’m pinging you again here because Richard D’Attoria V had a STAGGERING 148 PD’s?!?!?! WHAT?! That’s insane. You’re insane. You could probably have gotten 46 PD’s in a single season in your prime smh.
Safeties
I’ve never gotten a safety, lol there’s not much to say here, and I mean as a free safety this isn’t surprising at all.
Touchdowns
I got 1! Week 12 this year against Berlin I finally took one back to the house, and a good 42 yard return too. It’d be exciting to get one or two more of these before the end of my career, but I can’t say I’m exactly expecting it. I am surprised it took me 7 seasons to get a pick six though, especially since my first ever pick in the DSFL was a pick six.
Special Note for Missed Tackles
In the new Sim, Missed Tackles are now a viewable stat! This is an awesome addition, and while it doesn’t show up directly on the index, you can see your totals when looking at your specific Player’s profile. I had 4 missed tackles in Season 27. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad really, but I think staying under 5 is something I can be happy with. This season, I finished out not missing a single tackle! That I’m really happy with because it really shows how consistent and dependable Cross is as a player in his position at Free Safety.
With all my stats covered, I want to go over my best and worst seasons before moving on to a list of the QB’s I’ve intercepted.
The Best
Season 23 clearly stands out as my best season. My only year with over 100 tackles and 10 PD’s, my lone TFL, and the standard 3 sacks and 3 ints. I also had 2 FF’s and a FR to boot. I highly doubt I’ll ever get over 100 tackles in a season with how good this Philly defense is about to be, but hopefully I have a great year in coverage coming up soon that’ll blow away these numbers.
The Worst
Man I really sucked in Season 27. It was the first year in the sim, and overall Free Safeties performed very poorly. So on the bright side it wasn’t just me? I just felt like I wasn’t as involved in the games as I should’ve been, but I guess I still had 2 FF’s, 3 Int’s and 10 PD’s, so I really wasn’t bad that year, I think it’s just the 0 sacks and super low tackle numbers that throw things off for me. Looking in more detail compared to other years I really didn’t play terribly, it just sorta feels that way for me for some reason, I don’t know how best to explain it.
Quarterbacks I’ve Intercepted
This is a list you don’t wanna be on, and I’m actually interested to look back and see who all is here. I’m gonna be linking the Boxscores from the index for the QB names as proof of the matter.
Season 22
Rose Jenkins - 2 - wow I just remembered that I got two interceptions in the first game of my career against Chicago, a blow out win 51-10. Incredible memory unlocked there. Also those were my only two interceptions of the season)
Season 23
Wolfie McDummy - 1
George O'Donnell - 1 - so my running total of interceptions against Chicago is 3
Chika Fujiwara - 1
Season 24
Dexter Banks II - 1
Chika Fujiwara - 1 - I didn’t really think this through, but I intercepted Chika in a second game. This is two against Baltimore so far.
Dexter Banks II - 1 - Another one from Banks.
Season 25
Suleiman Ramza - 1 - hehe @Blasoon I intercepted you
Colby Jack - 1
Season 26
George O’Donnell - 1 - 4 now against Chicago :eyes:
Nick Kaepercolin - 1
Season 27 (almost done, I regret making this list it’s taking so long)
Mike Boss Jr. - 1 - 3 from Sarasota total now
George O’Donnell - 1 - 5 now against Chicago, 3 of them all being from O’Donnell too which is pretty interesting.
Colby Jack - 1 - Another from Colby
Season 28
Nick Kaepercolin - 1 - You better be careful Nick, if you throw me another one you’ll be tied with O’Donnell
Nick Kaepercolin - 1 - What did I just tell you Nick, now you’ve also thrown me 3 picks. I have to thank you though because this was my first and only pick six in the ISFL so far.
Charlemagne Cortez - 1 - My most recent interception coming in Week 13 against AZ
I really thought I’d have more commentary to add to this listing, but I did all the work scrubbing through the index so I’m keeping it included.
Summary
I honestly don’t have much to offer in terms of a summary. Overall I’m happy with my career thus far, even if I do see points of improvement or areas I wish I had done better in. I’m really hoping I can step up my game and beat out Numbers on a few of these records, but I definitely have a challenging road ahead of me fighting against regression. If you read through this, I appreciate it, I spent a lot of time grinding through the index. Also a special thanks to Infinite for creating Wolfie Bot, and more specifically, the dashboard which shows records, which I used to view current Philly Records. If you haven’t checked that out yet I definitely recommend doing so because it’s a ton of fun. That’s all I’ve got for tonight, keep an eye out for any future media from me as I panic about going into debt again.
