This offseason illuminated the fact that words have the power to encourage or injure people. We had a wonderful offseason point task which encouraged us to thank league members for the positive impacts they have made on our lives and our experiences. On the other hand, we had a confidential survey published which contained hateful comments issued towards league members under the cover of anonymity. Given that I was both uplifted by the kind words of many during the offseason, and also insulted by a few in the survey, I strongly felt the effects of both. Since I was in the middle of intensive study over the last few weeks for my doctoral exams, I was not able to find the time to write the offseason PT, but I want to take a moment now that I have completed my exams to do my part to encourage thankfulness and positivity. In general, I hope that we all make it a habit to say positive things about other people, even behind closed doors, and even if TPE is not on the line.
Thankful for my Tijuana Seasons
I started out as a member of the huge S22 r/nfl class, and it was a wild time. There were so many new prospects and the league was not ready for it. It was an overwhelming transition, and I felt like I was losing interest, until scouting messages started rolling in.
Thanks to @TropicaliaCC for being the first to scout me. Even though you did not draft me and we have barely spoken since, your messages helped me gain interest in the league.
A huge thank you goes especially to @Jay_Doctor. Jay, you and I hit it off right away. We talked about Lord of the Rings, football, and just had good conversations all around. You are a wonderful person and I consider you one of my closest sim league friends, and probably the first person in any online community that I had ever befriended. Before you, I assumed you had to know someone in real life to consider them a friend . Thanks for putting together an awesome locker room, along with your wonderful co-GM @FleshBagSoup. Note: sources tell me that FleshBagSoup is actually Bagel. Thank you, Bagel and Jay, for drafting me with your second pick in that draft as your starting CB. Sorry I didn't get to play in Tijuana longer and be a part of your Ultimini win. Bagel, you are an emoji master who changed the league with your Discord prowess. Thanks also to Jay for convincing the NOLA war room to consider drafting me with a high pick.
I also want to shout out my S22 fellow draftees to Tijuana.
@slothfacekilla You and I have had our careers linked for over a year now. We were taken in back to back picks by both Tijuana and NOLA, and you have been one of the very best teammates. You are always quick to be kind in the locker room, you always respond when people post pictures of their pets, you laugh at everyone's memes, and you converse with anyone who is around. You make every locker room better. It was awesome seeing Slothlisberger win an MVP, and you led us to two Ultimus appearances! Bravo!
@AL_GRINGO Thanks for the "bomb" Carne Asada recipe. It's a permanent addition to my collection. Thanks for all the fun talks about sports cards, and all the fun video game streams in Tijuana. I still never saw you catch a fish though.
@CalvinGolladay We were Buffalo Ramblers prospect bowl champions before we were Luchadores. You're a real champion-level user too. I've always been impressed at your maturity, your football knowledge, and how good of an awards rep you are. You were a great war room member on my Tijuana staff, your scouting abilities for finding hidden gems is unmatched, and that one random week you decided to sim test basically won us an Ultimini. I wish we had played together longer, but seeing how loyal you have been to Arizona through thick and thin has been cool to watch. Even though they're now my rival, I would love to see Arizona win a playoff game before you retire, for your sake.
@SwankyPants31 I am scrolling through the list of S21 draftees and finally found you. What a draft steal! You went from a 12th round pick to a Tijuana Legend Ultimini winning GM. Though I still am not sure what Gilbert's first name is (Reggie?), you were such a good co-GM, and I am also ceaselessly amazed at your insider league knowledge. It seems you always have the inside scoop on every piece of league news before anyone else does. You're the Adam Schefter of the ISFL. But now we're the old Tijuana GMs who won't shut up about the old days!
@JPach It was cool to have another musician to talk to in the locker room, and I am so happy for you that you're done with school now! You were such an important part of the league the last couple years with your work on sim team, streaming, button-clicking, Head Office, and the sim transfer. We're a much better league because of you. You, Sloth, and I made quite a Tijuana-NOLA trio, and it's pretty cool that you're about to complete another lap on the Tijuana-NOLA circuit! I've enjoyed the conversations we've had about all sorts of things in DMs and I think you're a very interesting person.
@siddhus Ramblers for Life! It's been cool seeing you go from a kid who gambled away all your pop-tart money to such an important part of the league. You stabilized the PT team, you achieved your goal of becoming a GM, and you proved the haters wrong by playing a full and successful career with Jim Waters. Keep up the good work!
There are many other Tijuana locker room people that deserve a shoutout.
@Bigred1580 Thanks for being the epitome of positivity and encouragement in the locker room. I hope you and your wonderful family are doing well.
@Ben Thanks for lots of things. First, for being such a great member of Tijuana. You're basically the team historian and helped me put the Tijuana Ring of Honor together. Thanks for all the late night (late for me at least) talks, the explanations of rugby rules, and answering all my dumb questions about New Zealand. I do suggest that you get married and move out of your mum's basement, though.
Now on to some people I drafted as a GM.
@Tonzy My first ever draft pick. I have more Discord messages with you than anyone else. I've loved getting to know you and am appreciative of all the encouragement and support you've sent my way. You remember what is going on in my life and ask about it, which is pretty cool to do for someone you've never met before. Also, your many interests and hobbies amaze me. I've never met anyone else that had as many unique hobbies as I have.
@Cincyfan96 You already know how much you mean to me. You're one of my closest friends, and I am so glad that you joined the league so that we can have more stuff to talk about. I can't say anything here that I haven't already told you in person.
My many S25 friends from Tijuana:
@209tacos Thanks for the two sigs you made me. You're incredibly talented!
@Kotasa You're an awesome GM and your Trippy Rich persona is hilarious. You are one of the best development GMs I've ever seen and are so good at encouraging activity and making people feel welcomed and involved. Also, given the little I know about your job, you might be an even better person in real life.
@GuitarMaster116 A loyal friend, a great teammate, a pancake machine, and a world traveler all packed into one. We've shared a Tijuana locker room and war room and a NOLA locker room and war room for quite a while now, and you are one of the most active and fun people everywhere you go. Thanks for your kind words on a recent thread which said some negative things about me. It really made my day.
@deadlunatic Stolen from Tijuana by the Wraiths too soon, I think it is really cool how you have stuck around and stayed involved with the team for quite a long time since being called up.
@Pat You are such a funny guy. I'll not soon forget your first day in GM chat when you took it by storm, coming in swinging with brash humor and confidence. Of course, you've stayed true to the Luchadores, and it kind of stinks that you steal all the players from Tijuana for Philly. But I digress. I think you are a really great member of the league. In addition to the humor, you are an amazing writer, you were on the sim transfer team, and you make good graphics! You're not as "well-rounded" as you used to be since you switched to CB though. RIP Vance Slattery.
@Exilate You're now the torchbearer in a long line of really great Tijuana GMs. I'm impressed with what I have seen so far. Stay true to the "Tijuana way!" Remember that fun, engagement, and development are the primary goals of the DSFL, and the success will come naturally.
There are so many others from my time in Tijuana that have contributed to making it my favorite locker room of any sim league team. You know who you are. There are a few others who will get mentions in the NOLA section since they are members of both groups!
The New Orleans Second Line Years
First off, thanks to the GMs who took a chance on an unproven new sim league create, risking a first round draft pick in the deepest draft in league history. Being a first round pick and being selected by New Orleans was one of the very best moments of my sim league life.
@IsaStarcrossed Sorry we didn't get to share a team more, but thanks for drafting me. I hope you have enjoyed your career with de Pengu on the Yeti!
@TomHanks You're a true legend. You are a huge part of Tijuana history as an Ultimini GM there, and then you transitioned to the ISFL and were a great GM there as well, winning an Ultimus. Plus, Gump had an amazing career in both the DSFL and ISFL, and you have led the DSFL through its most prosperous and healthy years as commissioner. Your talent shines through. Thanks for everything you built on both teams. In a way, I feel like I am standing on the shoulders of giants, namely you, since you are apparently very tall in real life! May you have many more fun adventures climbing castles and caves and the like. Thanks for guiding me through the process of GMing when I had many, many questions.
Now on to some of my notable teammates from NOLA.
@Jay_Doctor I've already talked about how great you are, but your player Blaylock is one of the most clutch players in the league. When you're eligible for the Hall of Fame, I plan to run a "Playoff Blaylock" ad campaign so that everyone knows that you step up in the biggest moments and the biggest games.
@terriblehippo You're such a positive influence on the team and in the locker room. Thanks for being so kind to everyone and helping out the team however you can. And of course, congrats on your recent wedding!
@Nokazoa Your wit and sarcasm are very entertaining. And even sharper than your wit is your photoshop ability. Wait, did I just call you dumb? Nope! You're just that good at swaps. Thanks for the sig, and for all the other cool graphics you have done both for the team and for the league in general. Your work brings joy to a lot of people.
@Wombat You're such a chill guy and a fun locker room presence. Witten and Barker have been teammates for literally my entire 10 year DSFL/ISFL career, and we've been PBE teammates for three. You're quite a fun guy to be teammates with, and I have never seen you say a negative word about anyone. I'm happy you were able to have such a long and successful ISFL career.
@Tesla Thanks for being such a wonderful locker room presence in NOLA. I hope that you enjoy the remainder of your career with the Yeti!
@toivo Thanks for being such a steady presence for NOLA. You have been so loyal to the team and have never complained about your number of targets or spot on the depth chart.
@Slothman07 Your graphics contributions to the team have been really fun. In addition to making us our first custom field, "Dootie the Jazz Snail" is a hilarious and brilliant mascot! Who would have though that a brass instrument could be turned into a Snail mascot? Well done.
@Birdman You've been such a good draft steal for the team. You have stuck with NOLA and have always been enthusiastic about the team! I knew when you requested a no-trade-clause that you were fully invested in the team, and I appreciate how you have anchored the center of our defense as our big nose tackle.
@MobiausGrander You are the best hype man of any sim league team, ever. You watch every stream and provide hyped up commentary in the locker room. I love how optimistic you are about the team, and how you always believe that we are the best, and if we get beat, it's just bad sim luck. You are so fun to have around, and you encourage the team to keep going even when we had some slow starts to the season the last couple years. And speaking of the Medicinal Rangers...
@JuOSu You pretty much rebuilt NOLA from scratch. You took over as the starting QB and full GM right after you were drafted, and you have bled purple ever since. Thanks for being a great war room member who offers good advice, for always helping out the team with whatever needs doing, and for having unwavering loyalty to the team.
@ddrector Thanks for talking Lord of the Rings and board games with me in the locker room. Thanks for being such a good GM. You're an awesome scouter and I've enjoyed working with you over the last few seasons. We have three playoff appearances and two ASFC championships together, which is much more than some have expected from us. Looking forward to playing some online board games with you soon!
@Arvot It's hard being traded by the team that drafted you, but you have taken the opportunity we gave you in NOLA and ran with it. Thanks for giving us a chance and being such a good contributor to the team. I've appreciated your work on the game ball graphics the last couple seasons!
@AdamS Thanks for providing a spark to our team when we were kind of stuck between the older generation of players and the newer one. Your energy and ideas helped propel us forward and have made us better.
@SchoolboyShue I know that PBE is your main league, and that you are not super interested in ISFL these days, but I really appreciate how you have stuck with the league and the team in order to help us out. You're a great guy and I appreciate everything you did to help bring me back to PBE.
@huck24 I like you so much I drafted you twice with high draft picks. I'd do it all over again, too. You're such a solid presence for the team and an amazing TPE earner. Vinny Jones is an absolute unit and the heart of our defense.
@mee You've been a total draft steal. Thanks for sticking with the team and developing into a really good young safety. You keep getting better every year!
@Voltaqe I love your enthusiasm for the team! Also, your name and render are pretty hilarious
@dude_man Thanks for pushing me to be a better GM. You have done so much to help these team be the best we can, and I appreciate your efforts. I am so glad we were able to sign you to an extension to keep you around. You're one of the best users in the league, not just by your contributions (that earned you Most Dedicated Member), but by the way you interact with people. You're a wonderful person to share a locker room with.
@Vaelynn Thanks for helping out with the team Twitter page. Congrats on the Bucks championship as well! I've enjoyed having you on the team as part of our young core of future superstars!
@Thatguy91 It's fun sharing a locker room with another person interested in hot chili peppers. I hope your garden goes well this year and I look forward to hearing all about it.
@hihihi_62 Man, you are off to a blazing start of your career with Crash. You had a great previous career in Yellowknife, and I can't wait to see all you will do with the Second Line!
Dotts
I have had the privilege of working with so many great people that have helped make the Dotts trading card project a reality.
Thank you @caltroit_red_flames and @KoltClassic for the insane amount of work and time you have invested to give us such a fantastic website to work with.
Thanks to all the card creators and staff that have helped over the last year. @Nokazoa @AL_GRINGO @Gragg9@Lime@jeffie43@kentakira@Jangorhino@bjkman@ThunderTitan82@Cheech65@LimJahey@"Laser"@ConnorM123@Briedaqueduc@PMoney@Kyamprac@qWest@.simo@SwankyPants31@shadyshoelace and probably many, many others I am missing.
Miscellaneous Shoutouts
Thank you @Sylphreni, @Frostbite, @Daybe, @Frick_Nasty for reaching out to me personally after the confidential article and offered me some encouragement. Those messages were bright spots in my day during a very difficult week.
Thank you to the other ISFL GMs I have gotten to interact with. ISFL GM chat is always a good time.
Thanks especially to @Blasoon. You are the most likeable "rival" GM ever. Sorry we're mean to your player. I always enjoy talking with you, especially about spicy food and cooking.
Thanks @"Laser" for letting me vent in your DMs about all kinds of things. I'm always impressed with how much you do for this league.
Thanks @Dewalt27 for updating all my teams and taking good care of CincyFan
I won't tag them all, but thank you, Head Office. This current iteration of HO is really good and you have done some good things recently. You don't get enough credit.
There are so many other people I have not even mentioned that have made positive impacts on the league and on me. Let's all keep treating each other well, encouraging people, and saying nice things about others. This is a rare thing we have: a (mostly) positive internet community, but we can be even better. We should always strive to brighten the days of others rather than cause hurt or frustration. Given how much time some of us spend on this league, your words have real consequences and potential to uplift or tear down. Always remember that.
Thankful for my Tijuana Seasons
