It’s hard to really say who Arizona’s biggest rival is, based on recent history. Obviously there have been the unfortunate results in the playoffs but there is also the fact that Arizona has something of a target on its back, due to the success they have had in the regular season over the last few seasons. The Austin Copperheads are a team that has been known to give us issues in the past and it’s always a close run affair with our divisional rivals. Whenever we see their name pop up next on the schedule, we know we’re going to need the sim to behave itself.
Sarasota have probably been the most consistent though, in terms of competition and if we had faced them a little more frequently then I truly believe that they would be the ones to be singled out. Then, of course, we have the whole playoffs situation, where we have lost to NOLA, then Austin Copperheads and last season, even the New York Silverbacks got in on the action. In each of these seasons, Arizona could easily have gone on and won the Ultimus. On each occasion, we believe we were the better team. On each occasion, I guess we were proved to be wrong. So, I guess our main rival is… the playoffs themselves?! Code: 219
This season has been quite rough on the Philadelphia Liberty locker room. At this point it doesn't matter if we lose to our biggest rival, every loss by one score hurts the same. After the loss, morale is low, no one really feels like talking. In a 2 point loss to Austin, who at the time of writing this is 10-3, Philadelphia had 11(!) penalties to Austin's 3, and still only lost by 2. The next week a 3 point loss to Honolulu, where they had just 16 yards of rushing offense. And then the next week, a 3 point loss to Sarasota that involved multiple missed field goals including one from inside the 40. Fencik had not missed from inside the 40 his entire career until this point (I think). This game once again had lopsided penalties with 15(!!) against Philly, while Sarasota had just 2. The next week, another three point loss, this time to Yellowknife. Then a 7 point loss to New York with lopsided penalties once again. And finally a 2 point loss to Chicago. After each loss we somehow find a way to pick ourselves back up though. We lost by one score, but we had a wild handicap in most of them, and other sim magic.
Our biggest rival in the league is the Silverbacks, because that’s who won the Ultimus last season. We don’t worry about who our rivals were back in the day, that’s old blood. All we care about now is going out there and laying out the best team in the league. Our locker room is tough after every loss, and even some games. We all treat football extremely professionally, so when we take a loss in the season it feels like we just let down all our teammates. When scanning the room, you can see everyone with their head down just keeping to themselves until the coach walks in. Once the coach is there, he brightens up the room and reminds us that this was just another learning opportunity. He knows where we are and what we need to do to get to where we need to be. It’s his job to get us there and not ours, we just need to trust him and leave it in his hands. I was sitting in my locker reflecting on some key moments of the game that I could have impacted when the coach came and sat with me for a chat. After talking he went around and talked to a couple others before leaving. We called it a night and got home before film the next day.

“And that’s the game…” The Butchers have all returned back to the locker room after a hard loss with frowns all around. Nobody ever feels happy after a loss and especially not to the Philadelphia Liberty, a longtime rival to the Chicago Butchers according to some column writers. Rookies turn to their veterans at their position for guidance about how to best handle the loss and what to look forward to during practice. Sure, the moments you first enter the locker room are tough but it takes one leader to step forward in order to bring the energy back for the following week and even the following games. As teammates start chatting, veterans such as Tim Soulja usually are the first to try bringing the hype back to the team even after the toughest of losses. His positivity is never unwelcome to the rookie players trying to work out the kinks in the Chicago rebuild while some rookies like Rejoignez LOrdreSombre and Jason Garciaparra work on helping feel out the positive energy being fed from the coaches. It helps out the team for the next game up regardless of who they are playing. The Chicago locker room can handle losses from even the worst of rivals and in the closest of games.
Straight away, off the bat immediately, I know this point task is quite unrealistic as my team would never lose a game to any team let alone our biggest rivals, overtime or no overtime. However putting myself into this hypothetical unrealistic situation I would first have to think about who my teams biggest rival would be. For us, the Sarasota Sailfish I'd probably have to pick out the Colorado Yeti, as there is a popular "Fuck the Yeti" meme going around the Locker Room and they are another top team in our conference and I know we would be devastated were we to lose a close game to them in Overtime as it would probably be one to decide a conference position. However, I don't think a loss like this would have the locker room too down as we have a great spirit and would know if it's a game we lost only in overtime its one we could easily win if we met them again, in the regular season of the playoffs. People who I would be confident in stepping up after this loss would be someone like our General Manager ernest lover, or else someone like defensive captain Michael Witheblock

Well this task is a super easy one to talk about since my team the New Orleans Second Line recently had to experinece this not once, but twice back to back in the last few weeks. We had to play the Yellowknife Warriors and Honolulu Hahalua in back to back weeks and both games were very important for us as we were on the verge of losing out on possible playoff implications and with both being home games, these were super huge games for the season. Both the teams are good and competitive so I knew going into the games they would be a challenge. Both were really tough games, both went to overtime, and both mistakes were made and eventually NOLA ended up losing not one, but both Overtime games. It was super demoralizing as these games were so huge for keeping our playoff hopes alive, and those games really determined that we would not be making the playoffs this season. It made the losses even worse being two home games in a row. In the league home games are super valueable and usually the home teams have an inherant advantage, so to lose two back to back overtime games at home while fighting for a playoff spot was super devastating a sad.

Having only just joined the Tijuana Luchadores off of waivers, Live Laughlove did not have as strong a reaction to losing to the Bondi Beach Buccaneers as you might expect. True to his namesake, Laughlove coped with the loss by doing his best to help everyone else on the team feel better. This included such activities as making sure everyone on the team had a hot towel available and keeping the bench warm for both the offensive and defensive captains as they came off the field. While the rest of the locker room was in a very somber state after the game, Live Laughlove does his best to cheer everyone up with his cheery interior redecorating. After all, it’s just one game and Laughlove knows the Luchadores will have their revenge next time they meet. While usually his words of encouragement are enough to break the team out of their funk, sometimes Laughlove has to break out the big guns. When push comes to shove and morale is at its lowest, Live Laughlove breaks out the hard alcohol to help cheer his teammates up. While the natural choice for Tijuana in terms of alcohol is tequila, Live has always been more of a bourbon fan, and has also been known to break out the recorder for some sweet solos while completely smashed.
