Oh man there are so many moments to choose from. Choccy milk was nothing if not memorable. Watching from the outside while my beautiful Duckies won a championship was something I won’t forget. Getting the chance to GM my Ducks and then the Butchers has been absolutely filled with memorable moments. I think that the one that I’ll officially put down as the most memorable moment, though, was at the end of my final season as the GM of the Grey Ducks. I was already feeling kinda bittersweet because I knew my final season at the helm was coming to a close. And then, the mad lads @Painted, @Gragg9, and @shrub02 all collaborated to write an article about us that punched me right in my cold dead heart, explaining to the league why Russ and I should be named the DSFL GMs of the year. I remember as soon as they pinged us in the media channel with the link to the article, we both opened it at about the same time (because we were always obsessively checking our locker room). We immediately DMed each other, basically sobbing happy tears together, and told each other that we had already won no matter how the actual voters felt.

My favorite moments in the past decade are the only two moments I remember. S20 DSFL draft when my first player Herb Altee (S) was taken 13th overall by the Seawolves. I remember that night pretty clearly because a ton of us had entered that draft via MLR/MLN advertisements. Like almost 100, it was nuts! To go 13th overall was a pretty awesome feat and I remember getting into the Locker Room that night and just really loving the whole vibe. Unfortunately, I didn't quite know what I was getting myself into and fell by the wayside pretty quickly.
Fast forward to last week when my new player, Modern Nazgul, was drafted 16th overall by Minnesota. In the days leading up to the draft I had convinced myself that I was headed back to Norfolk after some really good conversation with the scouts. I knew I wouldn't go in the 1st (NEPOTISM /s) but thought I had a good chance to be their second choice. Unfortunately, they decided to take a kicker :/ But then I heard my name called to the two-time Ultimini defending champion Grey Ducks who, if I'm honest were really my first choice all along. I was totally vibing in the clubhouse, the GMs are super helpful in getting my build done right and I get to be on a proven winner. All in all, two great memories (my only two memories) of the last 10 seasons. WC: 241 words 1,310 characters
The most memorable moment for me was getting traded. I got traded from Sarasota to Yellowknife. That move has been a true career-changing moment as I have won few championships, and I have reached a level that I did not think was possible when I was still a young player in Sarasota. I was behind a lot of talent in Sarasota back then, so that is the reason why I speak so highly about the trade. I got into a bigger role in Yellowknife, which helps automatically as I get to play and practice against the best of the best, and the teams we've had here have been great, championship level in multiple years.
On a personal level, the move from Sarasota to Yellowknife meant moving to a place that I know nothing about. It took me multiple months before I felt like the Yellowknife is home. Important to remember that I was not a quality player right away when I joined Yellowknife. I always had the fear of getting traded again at the back of my head, but months went by, the new season started, I was still in Yellowknife. Eventually, the place felt like home, and I'm still here. The growth as a player has been noticeable, but I have grown as a human a lot during these years. Thanks Slothman07! |
