NEW SEASON, NEW POWER RANKINGS. After my S30 twitter power rankings at the end of the season, I figured I would try and make this a weekly or bi-weekly power rankings (no promises) to see how the teams fare weekly/bi-weekly instead of over the entire season. Some teams during the the 30th season of the DSFL league prioritized tweeting during certain parts of the season whether it was game day or during the playoffs. Some others prioritized tweeting during the off season during draft/contract season. Hopefully this weekly update will give a real meaning to how each team values the fans and viewers weekly on social media. All ranks will be reset from last season and will be judged now on a weekly basis.
The weeks will be based on the ISFL/DSFL S31 schedule as laid out on the website starting with September 13th (ISFL Week 1) - Sunday September 19th.
Coming in the 8th spot we have… no surprise.

After looking at the KCC twitter page, I mean what can I really say AGAIN here? Once again this season, the Coyotes look to make a clean sweep at last place of the rankings. Not only did they not post anything during the first week of the new S31 season, they also never posted any offseason content even after their last place finish during the S30 power rankings. After last season, I thought they may have another twitter page that I may not have seen but after some research it looks like this is the main page but is still not being used. If you are a player on the Coyotes and are active in that LR, you better find out who is running your twitter page because they are not doing your team any favours on where draft prospects may want to end up. Over the next week, maybe we’ll hear something from a Coyote member on why they are staying consistent….ly bad.
Do I even need to do the math on how often this team tweets per day? Hopefully anyone reading this knows that it’s 0 and I’m sure it will stay that way all season.
Coming in the 7th spot we have...

While looking at the Tijuana twitter page, we may have someone that may be able to compete with the Coyotes this year for the 8th spot. This team's twitter page consisted of 1 tweet from the first week of the season. If I was counting offseason content I may be able to give them some bonus points but for a team that is looking to win the South with some powerhouses in the division, I’m looking for them to continue to add to the hype that they bring to the field. Last year this team did have 17 tweets and they were all spread out throughout the year so I’m assuming they will try and stick with the consistency over the season. As long as they are staying consistent over the season, their rank at the end of the year should reflect similar to S30
Over the course of the week, Tijuana had 1 tweet, that’s it. Not much else to say other than a score of 0.14 tweets per day is what they finished with. Last season this team did not make a single retweet and they are following the same path this year which could be an easy way to shake up their rank for the following weeks.
Coming in the 6th spot we have...
Dallas Birddogs

With one of the other disappointing starts to the new power ranking season, the Dallas Birdogs Twitter page was not what I was expecting after a 4th place finish from the season before. For a team in the strongest division, they seem to once again not have a strong twitter presence during the season which was similar to last season. Last year, this team was not very creative but did have some re-tweets to boost them up past some of the other teams that did not do much in general. This season they may need to go the extra mile to keep the spot in the top half of the ranks. Looking forward to their division matchups this week, expect to see some trash talk or boasting about the results if they land in their favour.
Over the past week, Dallas had 3 total twees which was one of the lowest scores to start the season at 0.43 tweets per day. Just like last season, they may need to be a bit more creative on a weekly basis since each tweet is being evaluated harder this season and not just looking at the total twitter presence over the year.
Coming in the 5th spot we have...
Portland Pythons

In a great way to start the season, the Portland Pythons beat the defending champion Grey Ducks, but the Portland twitter page was not as hype as I thought it would be. Once again they have the tools to be high in the rankings and they got the game script to go above and beyond but chose to stick to the basic tweet. For a team with the chance to walk away at a chance for the division title, I’m expecting this page to hype up all of the veterans and rookies on this team in what could potentially be a championship season.
Over the past week, Portland had 4 total tweets which is an average score of 0.57. I’m expecting so much more from a team that my Seawolves may hopefully play in the championship. Last season finishing 2nd in the rankings with 46 total tweets may be hard to beat, especially this season when I am somewhat looking at the creativity and not just the total number of tweets.
Also they may be behind the Buccaneers solely based on the fact they thought they were first in the rankings last season… let’s see if you have what it takes to win the crown this year and finish in the number one spot.
Coming in the 4th spot we have...

For a team that lost 10 players during the off season, the Bondi Beach Buccaneers Twitter page may look a little different this season. During the first week of the season, this team is on top with one of the best gif games but also lacking the same thing that hurt their rank last season which was the retweets. With a newer player base on the team, we should start seeing how this team is showing the rookies off on a weekly basis because that will show how much earning/growth the team could be having in their re-build. During last season, this team also managed to tweet a lot during the off season so keep an eye on them during the season, they have already started to improve versus last year's numbers.
Over the past week, BBB had 4 tweets which is 0.57 but just like other teams during the first week can be easily improved with a few retweets. For a team that had a middle of the pack season last year and now into a rebuilding year, I want to really see their rookies on the timeline.
Also they may have broken the tie against Portland on the sole fact they positively tweeted about my rankings on their twitter in a fantastic gif...
Coming in the number three spot we have...
Norfolk Seawolves

After looking back at the Norfolk Seawolves twitter page from last season, it was a slow go, but they have currently hit the ground harder this season with 6 tweets during the first week. With most of these tweets coming on game day, I’m looking to see a little bit of variety and even some mix up with some retweets from players with a team that has an active twitter user base. With a team that has hyped themselves up to be a top contender for the S31 season, you should be expecting/wanting them to keep up with the hype on a weekly basis.
Over the past week, Norfolk had 6 total tweets which is 0.86 tweets per day but this number can easily be inflated by counting retweets if there were any. Once again, the team with the best proclaimed best LR in the league really needs to showcase the talent that they have on social media to add the extra hype they may need moving farther into the season if things get worse in a very tough division.
Coming in the number two spot we have…
London Royals

WOW what can I say here, when looking at the London Royals twitter page, there has been an increasing amount of chatter going on in the first week of the S31 DSFL season. After finishing the power ranks last year in 7th with 13 tweets the entire season, they decided to hit the ground amazingly this season having 16 total tweets on their timeline in the FIRST week. Last season they also had a strong start to the twitter campaign but once the losses started coming more and more, that was when it started to get quiet. After another slow start to the season with losing the first game from the first week of the season (13th-19th), we’ll see if the chatter keeps up in the following weeks.
Now don’t get me wrong, I realize that the majority of their tweets are coming from re-tweets from their players, but this is just the start for them in building that atmosphere of earning in different ways and I am intrigued how they will continue. Over the past week, London had a combined 16 tweets which is a total of 2.29 tweets per day which is tied for the top score. If we take out the retweets it is only at 0.43 tweets a day but I still have to give this team a lot of credit after how horrible of a twitter campaign they had last year.
Coming in the number one spot once again…

I think I’m done talking about the Minnesota Grey Ducks twitter page, I don't even want to review them once again. This team just excels at the social media piece which is something for all managers/coaches to look after. The confidence from this team is still showing even after coming out of a 30-6 blowout in the first game of their season to the Pythons. During the season last year, this team got more and more confident as the season went on so expect a lot of banger tweets from these guys. If you are a rookie and love the social media aspects of things, take some notes from this page because they are still and will continue to be the top twitter page in the league over the season I believe. The consistency from this team is also something to keep track of. They usually do not miss a day without tweeting, only missing one day this week but I’m looking to see how many days they actually miss a tweet by the end of the season. For a team that is once again looking to win the title, the media presence will be there even though their on the field presence may not have been there like it was against the Pythons.
Over the past week, the Ducks had 16 combined tweets which is 2.29, tied for the highest with the Royals but what keeps them ahead in the rankings is the creativity and communication the head of this account keeps with the team.
Week 1 Conclusion
In conclusion, after looking through all the 8 team twitter pages, I am surprised to see such a shift in some of the ranks in just the first week of the season compared to last season. Once again, the top two teams were far more active than the rest, which may see some change once the retweets start coming though for teams near the bottom. It will be interesting to track the teams week by week and see when and why they may go MIA depending on how game results turn out.
